Quebec Liberals hold lead, PQ trails ahead of vote

The Quebec Liberals are maintaining their lead in the polls heading into Mondays provincial election.

A new Leger Marketing poll released Saturday pegged the Liberals at 38 per cent, compared to 29 per cent for the Parti Quebecois, 23 per cent for the Coalition Avenir Quebec (CAQ), and nine per cent for Quebec solidaire.

The survey of 1,220 Quebecers was conducted by Leger, for Le Journal de Montreal, and is considered accurate within 3.2 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

Despite trailing the Liberals, PQ leader Pauline Marois said during a campaign stop on Saturday that "everything is possible."

The game is not finished and Im sure that on Monday evening, we will form the next government, she told a scrum of reporters outside of her campaign bus. I have a very good plan to present to the population of Quebec and I have a great team around me and were ready to govern (Quebec).

The Liberals have been widening their lead over the PQ this past week and Leader Philippe Couillard called on his supporters Saturday to help deliver a Liberal majority.

Meanwhile, the third-place Coalition Avenir Quebec has seen a surge in support over the last few days.

CAQ leader Francois Legault said he's encouraged by the latest polling numbers and hopes to lead his party to a victory. He has promised to set aside the sovereignty debate, and instead focus on the economy an issue voters say should be the top priority for the next Quebec government.

An Angus-Reid poll conducted on Friday showed slightly more support for the Liberals, garnering 39 per cent of likely Quebec voters, compared to 27 per cent for the PQ, 25 per cent for the CAQ and seven per cent for Quebec solidaire.
