Okay, so, they are also all African American. And, yes, I kind of did that on purpose. Only one of the following rappers has really come out as libertarian the rest have views that could be interpreted as conservative or liberal, but the term libertarian is not heavily circulated in the black community, so bear with me. Rappers speak to young blacks in a way that is significant and often misunderstood, and while there exist intelligent, well-spoken black economists, they are not nearly as influential as these lyricists can be. So here are a few just as an interesting FYI, with views that sound surprisingly and refreshingly libertarian.
5.) Anthony Ray (Sir-Mix-A-Lot)
Known For: Grammy Award-winning single Baby Got Back
Libertarian Leanings: Its a known trope that most rappers hate taxes and Ray is no exception. However, one particular song called Take My Stash off of his Chief Booth Knocka album seems to go a level deeper:
But the IRS got a thing for a brother like me Uncle Sam wanna buy another missile (yep) Strip Mix-a-Lot straight down to the gristle (mm)
Helicopters over my house (my house) Takin pictures of a brother in his draws wit his thing out (uhh) Livin the life of a suspected crook Cause I never play the game by the book If youre livin too large, ya better watch that ass Cause the IRS, Is gonna take yo stash
Ruthless force, invasion of privacy, profiling/targeting, and use of his money to bomb other countriestheres clearly more thought to his message than get your hands off my money, government.
4.) Antwon Andrew Patton (Big Boi)
