What Do Rick Ross and Mike Pence Have in Common? An Inability to Platonically Interact With Distracting Women – Slate Magazine (blog)

Its hard to work with women without having sex with them, says Rick Ross.

Noted gentleman Rick Ross appeared on a New York radio show Monday morning to promote his new VH1 reality series Signed. In the series, he and two other hip-hop moguls will audition and develop aspiring artists, who will get the chance to sign with one of the three big dogs record labels.

Christina Cauterucci is a Slate staff writer.

When Im looking for an artist, Im really just looking for something Ive never seen, first and foremost, Ross told the Breakfast Club radio hosts on Monday. If its something thats unique, I feel thats something thats in demand. After that, I want to see that hunger.

But what if that unique, in-demand, hungry young artist is a woman? As Breakfast Club host Angela Yee pointed out, Rosss Maybach Music Group label has no female artists on its current roster and has only ever signed one, singer-songwriter Teedra Moses. Ross shared his well-thought-out reasoning with Yee. You know, I never did it because I always thought I would end up fucking the female rapper and fucking the business up, he said.

Thats awful, Yee replied.

Im so focused on my business. I got to be honest with you, Ross went on. You know, she looking good. Im spending so much money on her photo shoots. I got to fuck her couple times.

What a conscientious businessman! If you cannot interact with women without having sex with them and losing your focus on moneymaking, the responsible thing to do, Ross says, is avoid contact with women in the first place.

It is exhausting to imagine the life of a man who sees every female colleague and industry contemporary as a predestined sex partner. How do you have any time for artist development, business strategy, and radio-show appearances if youre constantly having sex, scheming about how to have sex, or being distracted by people who, because they are women, remind you of sex? How do you sit through dinner with a buddy and his sister? How do you handle meetings with female marketing executives and record distribution heads while maintaining a constant erection? How much does your life suck because you cant have any female friends?

Those are questions many posed to Vice President Mike Pence earlier this year, when it came out that the guy refuses to break bread alone with any women who arent his wife. The famously chaste n Catholic Pence initially comes off as the anti-Ross: The rappers promiscuity is as much a hallmark of his brand as the vice presidents condemnation of almost every type of sexual contact is a hallmark of his. One thinks you should almost never have sex, the other thinks yachtloads of sex is the way life was meant to be lived.

But these two men are a lot alike. Ross has women call him Daddy; Pence calls his wife Mother. Both are gatekeepers at the top of their respective industries. And both use their warped, semi-Biblical views of women as inevitable temptresses to keep non-men out of their inner circles. To Pence, all womenno matter how random or disinterestedrepresent potential detriment to his marriage. To Ross, they are poison to his business. Women already face significant structural barriers to advancement in politics and the music industry. Men like Ross and Pence, who explicitly limit their contact with women, codify sexist notions of women as sex objects who divert attention from the important work at hand. (See also: dress codes that force underage girls into bulkier clothing because their bodies are burdensome distractions for innocent, hardworking boys.)

Ross continued his Monday interview by asking Yee several times to reveal her legs to him, implying that he would have to have sex with her if she signed with his label, telling her he wants to see her twerk at an upcoming pool party, and posing for a photo while grabbing her hair and pretending to lick her face. If his goal was to keep distracting women out of the music industryor broadcast journalism, for that matterRoss can count this interview as a major win.

Mike Pence responds to Trump’s Twitter humiliation of Jeff Sessions – TheBlaze.com

Vice President Mike Pence defended Trumps Twitter humiliation of his own Attorney General Jeff Sessions to Fox News host Tucker Carlson on his show Wednesday.

Well look, I think the presidents been very candid, he said, that hes disappointed with the attorney generals decision to recuse himself and to not know about his intention to do so before he was confirmed as the attorney general of the United States.

But I have to tell you Tucker, he said, youve been around Washington for a long time, I know the Washington way is to talk behind peoples backs. But thats not President Donald Trumps approach.

One of the great things about this president is you always know where you stand, he concluded.

The American people like about this president is he speaks candidly, he speaks openly, Pence continued. Hes expressed his disappointment but that doesnt mean that we dont recognize the good work that the Justice Department has been doing under the attorney generals leadership.

Taking on MS13 gangs, removing them from the streets, confronting sanctuary cities, rolling back that policy across the country. he concluded.

I think its the public expression of it that rattles people, Carlson challenged. The idea that you would attack someone who works for you on Twitter and I wonder if you worry personally if the president was displeased with you that he might tweet about you that way. Does that ever occur to you?

Well, I think one of the presidents virtues is his candor, Pence repeated.

Right, Carlson agreed.

Carlson has pleaded with the president from his show to stop what he called the humiliation and suffering of Trumps friend who supported his candidacy when others didnt.

VP Mike Pence Hated ‘Mulan’ Because Women in the Army is a ‘Bad Idea’ – NextShark

Dont send Mike Pence daughters he asked for sons.

Before Mike Pence became Vice President and vintage cartoon meme, he was the governor of Indiana, a U.S. representative, and host of his own political talk show. This was back in the late 90s when most kids were interested in Beanie Babies, Pokmon, and boy bands with ramen hair.

Of course, the 90s also gave birth to one of the most beloved Disney animated films of all time, Mulan, and unfortunately for Pence, his children were very interested in seeing the film over Fathers Day 98.

Upon leaving the theater, Pence was compelled to pen an op-ed on his shows website about the movie and what it might mean for the military.

Just spent a memorable Fathers Day, like so many other all American Hoosier dads, with my kids at the new Disney film entitled, Mulan. For those who have not yet been victimized by the McDonalds induced hysteria over this film, Mulan is a fictional account of a delicate girl of the same name who surreptitiously takes her fathers place in the Chinese army in one of their ancient wars against the Huns.

Despite her delicate features and voice, Disney expects us to believe that Mulans ingenuity and courage were enough to carry her to military success on an equal basis with her cloddish cohorts. Obviously, this is Walt Disneys attempt to add childhood expectation to the cultural debate over the role of women in the military.

I suspect that some mischievous liberal at Disney assumes that Mulans story will cause a quiet change in the next generations attitude about women in combat and they just might be right. (Just think about how often we think of Bambi every time the subject of deer hunting comes into the mainstream media debate.)

The only problem with this liberal hope is the reality which intrudes on the Disney ideal from the mornings headlines. From the original Tailhook scandal involving scores of high ranking navy fighter pilots who molested subordinate women to the latest travesty at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, the hard truth of our experiment with gender integration is that is has been an almost complete disaster for the military and for many of the individual women involved.

When Indiana Congressman Steve Buyer was appointed to investigate the Aberdeen mess, he shocked the public with the revelation that young, nubile, 18 year old men and women were actually being HOUSED together during basic training. Whatever bone head came up with this idea should be run out of this mans Army before sundown. Housing, in close quarters, young men and women (in some cases married to non-military personnel) at the height of their physical and sexual potential is the height of stupidity.

It is instructive that even in the Disney film, young Ms. Mulan falls in love with her superior officer! Me thinks the politically correct Disney types completely missed the irony of this part of the story. They likely added it because it added realism with which the viewer could identify with the characters. You see, now stay with me on this, many young men find many young women to be attractive sexually. Many young women find many young men to be attractive sexually.

Put them together, in close quarters, for long periods of time, and things will get interesting. Just like they eventually did for young Mulan. Moral of story: women in military, bad idea.

Essentially, Pence uses Mulan as an example as to why women should not serve in the military because she was housed with other men and fell in love with Captain Sheng. Some critics have pointed out that using Mulan as the crux of his argument is weak, as she nearly single-handedly saved all of China, becoming the deadliest Disney Princess (possibly character?) of all time.

Perhaps to Pences dismay, women were legally allowed to serve in the U.S. military since 2001, three years after Mulans release.

Comically, Pences feelings of victimization by the McDonalds induced hysteria over this film may soon resurface, not only with the live-action Mulan slated for 2019, but the (hopeful) return of the McDonalds promotional dipping sauce created in honor of the movie made culturally relevant again by the hit show, Rick and Morty.

Report: Mike Pence Is The Driving Force Behind Trump’s Transgender Ban For The US Military – UPROXX

Getty/Shutter

When Donald Trump announced a new ban on transgender members in the U.S. military Wednesday, he claimed in the first of three tweets that hed [consulted] with my generals and military experts before making the decision. According to the general response from Defense Department officials and Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain, however, they had no idea the presidents ban was coming. A new report by The Daily Beast instead hints that the so-called generals and military experts behind the new policy were actually Vice President Mike Pence and Chief Strategist Steve Bannon.

Per The Daily Beast, White House sources claim Pence has been pushing hard for this kind of policy shift in the military for some time. So too, unsurprisingly, has former Breitbart executive turned Trump campaign chairman Steve Bannon, who now serves on the White House staff. Whats more, another source indicated that the transgender ban would do well with his base, especially leaders of Christian far-right groups and socially-conservative voters. Considering Trumps recent campaign rally in Ohio (and others prior, though following his November election victory), this doesnt seem all that surprising.

It sure as hell surprised officials at the Pentagon, the Defense Department and the Senate Armed Services Committee, all of whom are typically informed of major policy shifts in advance. According to the Wall Street Journal, one official said Trumps Wednesday morning tweets [were] the first we heard about it. Though thats not to say they didnt know the White House was considering it, as Defense Secretary Jim Mattis asked the administration for six months to study the possible effects of transgender military enlistment back in June. Even so, as one official explained it to the New York Times, Mattis request didnt hinge on an eventual ban, but merely time to finesse the situation.

The vice president said that Trump's string of criticisms aimed at Sessions are not evidence that the attorney general's work at the Department of Justice is unappreciated.

One of the great things about this president is you always know where you stand, Pence told Fox News during an interview airing Wednesday night. He speaks candidly, he speaks openly, he's expressed his disappointment [in Sessions].

Pence added: But that doesn't mean that we don't recognize the good work the Justice Department has been doing under the attorney general's leadership.

The vice president pointed to Sessions' work on combating gang violence and illegal immigration, as well as his efforts to stop cities from operating as safe havens for undocumented immigrants, as examples of successes.

When asked about Sessions' future, Pence echoed remarks by Trump, who said Tuesday that time will tell what will happen with the attorney general.

We will see what happens in the future, but at least the American people know and every member of the cabinet can know that you will always know where you stand with President Trump, Pence said.
