A former Secret Service agent who protected the Obamas says she was told she didn’t deserve the job during training because she’s a woman – Yahoo News

A former Secret Service agent spoke to Insider about the criticism she faced during training.

Evy Poumpouras says physical training requirements for females are less demanding than for males.

She completed male training requirements after being told she didn't deserve the role.

Evy Poumpouras is a former Secret Service agent and polygraph examiner, journalist, and author of the 2020 memoir, "Becoming Bulletproof."

Poumpouras spent 12 years as a Special Agent and was part of the presidential protective division for President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama before leaving the Secret Service in 2012.

But the lessons she's learned throughout her career aren't limited to the White House. She had to overcome adversity from her very first week of training at the Secret Service Academy.

Poumpouras told Insider that some of her fellow trainees didn't think she deserved to be there because the physical requirements for women were less demanding than for men.

Poumpouras wrote in her book, "Becoming Bulletproof," that her recruit class at the Secret Service Academy was "composed almost entirely of men."

"At the time, more than 90 percent of Special Agents were male. Given that and the caliber of my peers, I knew I had to earn my place. I wanted to be seen not as a female Special Agent, but as a Special Agent. Period," she wrote.

Poumpouras told Insider that she was told "some people don't think you should be here" during her time at the academy.

"I was like, 'Well, I passed everything you all passed,'" she said. "And they brought to my attention that the physical requirements were different for women. I didn't have to do as many pull-ups and push-ups. I didn't have to run as at fast of a pace. It bothered me, because I knew even if I trained at the women's standards, people would still say something."

It was this conversation that led Poumpouras to find out what the men's standards were and to complete the training at this level.

The Secret Service careers website describes the 18-week Special Agent Training Course outside Washington, DC as "extensive training in marksmanship, control tactics, water survival skills, and physical fitness."

The website does not specify the current requirements for males and females taking the course.

Poumpouras faced criticism even after she completed the training. She told Insider that she recalled hearing someone say: "Well, she's super skinny, so she doesn't have to lift that much weight when she pulls herself up on the bar."

"There was never a question in my mind, [of] 'well, they're right.' Because they were correct," Poumpouras said. "It was true, but I just personally didn't want to live with that."

Representatives for the Secret Service did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Secret Service agents are known for their commanding and confident presence. However, it wasn't just her time at the academy that taught Poumpouras how to exude these qualities.

Poumpouras told Insider that she learned to become more commanding from listening back to recordings of herself speak during polygraph interviews.

Poumpouras' role as a polygraph examiner involved interviewing criminal offenders, suspects, and gathering intelligence.

The recordings made her realize she needed to slow her speech and speak more clearly.

She was also inspired to project her voice more after listening to Barack Obama speak.

"His voice boomed in the White House," Poumpouras said of Obama.

"I think in a time where a lot of us may feel that we shouldn't be so loud or project our voice, I saw the opposite with him. And it made me think, why shouldn't I project my voice?" she added. "Why shouldn't my voice resonate and take up space in the world?"

New book claims Obama was a ‘parasite’ who sucked the …

A "parasite" on the Democratic Party is how journalist Edward Isaac Dovere describes former President Obama in his forthcoming tell-all book "Battle for the Soul: Inside the Democrats' Campaign to Defeat Trump."

In a chapter entitled "Benign Neglect," Dovere writes that the sections namesake is how Obama aides privately described his abandonment of the Democratic Party once in the White House. "Negligence might be more accurate," Dovere, writer for The Atlantic and former chief Washington correspondent for Politico, writes.

"The numbers are hard to ignore: during his eight years in office, Obama oversaw a net loss of 947 state legislative seats, 63 House seats, 11 senators, and 13 governors," he continues.

In 2008, Democrats increased their majorities in the House and Senate, delivering Obama the legislature for his first two years in office. In 2010, Republicans took the majority in the House with the Tea Party wave and Democrats maintained but shrunk their majority in the Senate. In 2014, Republicans gained control of both the House and Senate.

Dovere writes that the 44th president carried himself with a "self-assured self-regard."

OBAMA CALLED TRUMP A F---ING LUNATIC,' BOOK SAYS

"Obama never built a Democratic bench and never cared to, aside from a few scattered candidates who interested him," according to the book.

Dovere writes that "defenders" of Obama have argued he didnt want to "taint" his presidency by " mucking about in fundraising," or that he didnt want to spoil the image voters had of him as an independent politician, or that faced with the choice to campaign or govern, he would always choose govern.

Dovere writes that during his first term, Obama used the party structure as a "host" for his next campaign.

In 2009, Obama hired his friend Tim Kaine to head the DNC, even though Kaine was also serving as governor for the first year on the job.

In a scathing passage Dovere claims Kaine was at the time "commuting two days a week to oversee the pilfering of talent, money, resources, and purpose for the Obama reelection effort that was already under way."

"In his second term, he cared about what happened to the husk as much as any parasite does," Dovere says.

Dovere pointed to the Obama teams decision to strike a deal with the Democratic National Committee (DNC) that saddled the committee with $2.4 million in leftover debt from Obamas 2012 election. In return, "Obama for America" gave the DNC its email list, and Obama was supposed to headline additional fundraisers.

JILL BIDEN SAID KAMALA HARRIS CAN GO F--- HERSELF,' BOOK CLAIMS

Obamas peak pride came in 2015, Dovere writes, when on back-to-back days the Supreme Court upheld ObamaCare, his signature achievement, and ruled the 14th Amendment requires all states to grant same-sex marriages.

"'In hindsight it's hard not to see delusion in the self-assurance and the celebration and the sense of moving forward of those two weeks in America," Dovere writes.

Obama also reportedly said in the summer of 2020 that when he had left office, America had more prepared for a pandemic than any nation on earth, but had since fallen far behind.

The former president reportedly believes he could have won had he run for another term.

"Ultimately Obamas math comes down to a simple calculation: he has suggested in conversations with people close to him that he thinks he would have won had he been able to be a candidate in 2016. The economy, the Democratic debris, Russia if he could have run for a third term, even confronted with all these issues, he believes, he would have figured out how to pull a victory off anyway," according to the book.

Obama called Trump a ‘racist, sexist pig’, book claims

Former President Barack Obama called Donald Trump a corrupt motherfker, a madman and a racist, sexist pig to people behind the scenes, a new book claims.

Obama had actually preferred Trump for president over Sen. Ted Cruz when the two were locked in a Republican primary battle, a forthcoming book by writer Edward-Isaac Dovere says.

I didnt think it would be this bad, he later told donors, the Guardian reported, citing Doveres Battle for the Soul: Inside the Democrats Campaigns to Defeat Trump.

I didnt think wed have this racist, sexist pig, Obama is quoted as saying.

And Obama was set off by reports that said Trump was talking with Russian President Vladimir Putin and others without aides on the line while there was an ongoing investigation into Russian election interference, the Guardian said.

That corrupt motherfker! he said, according to the report.

Its no shocker that Obama and Trump arent each others biggest fans but the former Democratic presidents public comments about his Republican successor havent come close to the R-rated descriptions alleged in the book.

Dovere took to Twitter Wednesday to say the descriptions and more were in his book.

Can confirm this is all in Battle for the Soul but theres much more about Obama and his reactions to the last four years, Dovere said.

Theres some cursing from him, but theres also depth and reflection, he added, then shared a link to preorder the book, due to be released May 25.

Spokespeople for Obama and Trump didnt respond to emails from The Post on Wednesday.

Obama isnt the only person whose alleged colorful language has been highlighted by Doveres book.

In an adapted excerpt that was published by Politico, Jill Biden is quoted as saying Kamala Harris should go fk herself.

Harris had questioned Joe Bidens record on race at a Democratic debate. A week later, Jill Biden defended her husband on a call with supporters.

With what he cares about, what he fights for, what hes committed to, you get up there and call him a racist without basis? Go fk yourself, Jill Biden said, according to the report.

Harris would later become President Bidens vice president.

Obama, Channeling All of Us, Called Trump a RacistSexist …

If there was one major criticism of Barack Obama during the years between 2016 and 2020, it was that he didnt voice the opinions you know he had about his successor at the White House, Donald Trump. While millions of Americans were discussing the 45th president using terms like malignant tumor, burlap sack of excrement, and a staph infection on the ass of society, Obama remained quiet, not even mentioning Trump by name until the end of 2018. The 44th president reflected on his decision not to go after Trump in his memoir,A Promised Land, writing: I confess that there have been times during the course of writing this book, as Ive reflected on my presidency and all thats happened since, when Ive had to ask myself whether I was too tempered in speaking the truth as I saw it, too cautious in either word or deed, convinced as I was that by appealing to what Lincoln called the better angels of our nature I stood a greater chance of leading us in the direction of the America weve been promised. Thankfully, toward the end of the 2020 election, Obama chose to very much go after Trump, warning in August that the 45th president would tear our democracy down given the opportunity. And according to a new book, he had much saltier things to say in private.

The Guardian reports that in Battle for the Soul: Inside the Democrats Campaigns to Defeat Donald Trump, Atlantic staff writer Edward-Isaac Dovere reveals that Obama told foundation donors that Trump was

Trump does not appear to have heard about Obamas remarks yet, because if he had he no doubt would have published a 1,000-word rant about them on his blog, From the Desk of Donald J. Trump.

Last year, Business Insider reported the delightful news that both Barack and Michelle Obama were producing a comedy series for Netflix based on the chaotic transition of power when Donald Trump became president in 2016. The show, titledThe G Word With Adam Conover,is a collaboration between the comedian and the Obamas Higher Ground Productions, based onMichael Lewiss bookThe Fifth Risk, which was born out of aSeptember 2017Vanity Fairarticle. The bookcoversthe historic chaos and mismanagement that occurred in the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, and Energy during the handoff between the administrations. The G Wordwill reportedly be part documentary, part comedy sketch, the latter of which seems like the perfect way to recount the fact that Trump had absolutely no clue what he was doing when he got to Washington (and didnt learn in the proceeding four years).

Giuliani sure had a lot of devices with what were sure is totally not incriminating information on them!

In the future, Chris Cuomo will refrain from taking part in strategy sessions re: sexual harassment allegations against his brother

Thats generally, uh, considered a no-no for journalists. Per The Washington Post:

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo advised his brother, New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, and senior members of the governors staff on how to respond to sexual harassment allegations made earlier this year by women who had worked with the governor, according to four people familiar with the discussions. Cuomo, one of the networks top stars, joined a series of conference calls that included the Democratic governor, his top aide, his communications team, lawyers, and a number of outside advisers, according to the people familiar with the conversations, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the private sessions. The cable news anchor encouraged his brother to take a defiant position and not to resign from the governors office, the people said. At one point, he used the phrase cancel culture as a reason to hold firm in the face of the allegations, two people present on one call said.

The behind-the-scenes strategy offered by Chris Cuomo, who anchors CNNs 9 p.m. nightly newscast, cuts against the widely accepted norm in journalism that those reporting the news should not be involved in politics. If you are actively advising a politician in trouble while being an on-air host on a news network, thats not okay, said Nicholas Lemann, a professor at Columbia Journalism School and a New Yorker staff writer.

Michelle Obama Slips Up and Admits Shes a Man ALLOD-9

But thats not the biggest revelation from the former First Lady. After being asked about right-wing conspiracies, she admitted that she is, in fact, a man:

The people on the right are about as intelligent as the turkeys Barack pardoned in 2009. Theyre dense. They will believe anything anyone tells them, as long as it plays to their biases. They believe Barack is a Kenyan and that Malia gets arrested all the time. They think an impeachment inquiry is a trial. Theyre really that dumb.

When it comes to me, they get really, really ignorant. They believe that just because I have an Adams Apple that Im not a real woman.

Sorry, Mike, but we can read through those lines. You just admitted that you have an Adams Apple.

Everyone with a high school education knows that makes you male. They dont call it an Eves Apple.

With this information, the American people can now demand that she and her husband are arrested for lying to them for eight years.

We the people can demand they be held accountable for their high crimes and misdemeanors.

We will never back down from the truth!
