This Week in Media Bias History: Journalist Excited Over …

Just when you thought This Week in Media Bias History couldnt get any crazier, it does.Journalists hate Donald Trump. But they really LOVED Barack Obama. How far did the New York Times go to make that clear? In 2009, one of the papers bloggers wrote about sex dreams involving the Democratic president. Another Times whopper from our archives?Whining about the terse and old Constitution.Other examples this week include talking about impeaching Ronald Reagan and falling for Soviet propaganda.

Michelle Obama celebrates 54th birthday with flowers from …

Former first lady Michelle Obama turned 54 today, celebrating her first birthday in Washington, D.C., since leaving the White House.

She started the day with flowers and a card, addressed Miche, from her husband, former President Barack Obama.

Thank you @BarackObama for the beautiful flowers waiting for me in the office this morning. Youre my best friend, biggest fan, and getting notes and flowers from you will never get old, she posted on Instagram.

She also thanked the people from around the country who had wished her well on her birthday.

You have no idea how much we love hearing from you. I know birthdays can sometimes be bittersweet (54!), but your messages of hope, generosity, and warmth have always reminded me how lucky and blessed we are, she wrote.

In years past, the Obamas have been seen at D.C. restaurants to celebrate Michelle Obamas birthday, but plans for the former first ladys 54th were not announced.

The former president, 56, has never disguised his affection for his wife, the mother of their two daughters and his partner since their days on the South Side of Chicago.

You're not only my wife and the mother of my children, you're my best friend. I love your strength, your grace, and your determination. And I love you more each day. Happy Birthday, @MichelleObama, he wrote beneath a photo of the two on a couch, dressed in matching hues.

Another birthday gift came from the Philadelphia Eagles Chris Long, who released a video to promote Michelle Obamas efforts to get students to fill out the FAFSA, or Free Application for Student Aid, a college aid form. Long also donated his entire seasons salary to fund educational opportunities in the three cities where hes played for the NFL: Philadelphia, Boston and St. Louis.

Since leaving office, the Obamas have laid low politically. Public endeavors have largely been for the Obama Foundation, speeches or travel -- though the former president joined two then-candidates and now-governors, Gov. Phil Murphy, D-N.J., and Gov. Ralph Northam, D-Va., on the campaign trail in the fall.

Michelle and Barack Obama both welcomed leaders from Chicago, the U.S. and around the world for the Obama Foundation Summit at the end of October, and recently, Michelle Obama and Prince Harry made a surprise visit to students at Hyde Park Academy in Chicago, according to photos from both the Kensington Palace and former first ladys account.

Michelle Obama calls Barack Obama her ‘best friend’ in …

Former first lady Michelle Obamaon Wednesdayshared a picture of the birthday bouquet she received from her husband, and, in a heartwarming Instagram post, called him her best friend.

Thank you@BarackObama for the beautiful flowers waiting for me in the office this morning. Youre my best friend, biggest fan, and getting notes and flowers from you will never get old, she wrote on Instagram. And to the many people from around the country who sent cards and posted on social media, you have no idea how much we love hearing from you.

How the former first lady spent January 17, which marks her 54th birthday, is largely unknown, but she did appear to be having a great time in the days leading up to it.

A recentphotoof her wearing a very stylish bikini, while vacationing in Miami, was posted by an Instagram user earlier in the week.

Clintons confess, Obama to blame, and Trump triumphs in this …

The White House Press Office in Exile, otherwise known as the tabloids, is in full Trump-boosting, Clinton-bashing, Obama-blaming mode this week.

The president, who has previously lamented the injustice of the National Enquirer being deprived of the Pulitzer Prize it so richly deserves, should be pleased with the rags immolation of Michael Wolffs political bestseller Fire and Fury, with a cover headline branding it a Book of Lies!

Staffers think prez is dumb. FALSE! screams the Enquirer's front page. His ego is out of control. FALSE! Hes hated by his own family. FALSE!

Not satisfied with demolishing Wolffs reporting, the Enquirer claims that the book is part of an attack on Trump orchestrated by Puppet Master-in-Chief Barack Obama! Wolff is part of the Obama hit team chosen by America's last president to undermine Trump, claims the magazine. And to prove its point, the Enquirer sent audio and video tapes of Wolff for stress analysis, and concluded Michael Wolff is lying throughout. Well, you cant argue with science.

Sister publication the Globe dances like its 2016 all over again, with its cover story about Bill and Hillary Clinton's alleged "$365 million bribery scandal at the Clinton Foundation under the headline: "Were Guilty!" Inside, the story reveals: Crooked Clintons Confess!"

But its not just Bill & Hill freely admitting their life of lies Trump nails Clinton confession, the Globe crows. Did Trump grill the Clintons in interrogation rooms under bright lights? Hardly.

As the FBI mounts a new probe into possible pay-to-play politics by the Clintons and their Foundation, the Globe claims that the Clintons sought a plea deal to make the whole ugly business go away and that Trump ordered the Justice Department to make no sweetheart deals, making good on his promise to lock up the crooked Clintons.

Two quick points: (1) discussing a plea deal is far from a confession, and (2) since the probe is only days old its unlikely that the Clintons would consider a plea deal before knowing whether the investigation has even dug up any incriminating evidence. The report sounds more like wishful thinking by the Globe team of psychic reporters.

The fantasies continue in the Globe with Camillas Deathbed Revenge! claiming that Princes Charles wife is secretly negotiating a mega-bucks deal to tell all in a blockbuster TV interview! Her aim? . . . to bring down the royals before shes killed by liver cancer. Another couple of quick thoughts: (1) Youre not on your deathbed if youre seen walking around quite happily at the Royal Familys Christmas Day church service, and announcing plans to visit a brewery in Wales later this month; and (2) as Ive noted before, Camillas diagnosis of liver cancer appears to have been missed by the combined ranks of Britains Royal press corps, clearly lacking the psychic skills of the Globe paranormal reporting team.

The tabloids are back to their usual prognosticatory feats with their latest death watch stories. TVs Jeopardy host Alex Trebek, who recently underwent surgery to remove blood clots from his brain, has just 9 weeks to live! claims the Globe. Start the countdown. Lets not forget Nick Nolte, given just six months to live 18 months ago.

Meanwhile the Enquirer claims that Val Kilmer given just months to live more than two years ago now has less than 12 months to live as cancer spreads to his brain docs fear. Docs fear? Thats sloppy, even for the Enquirer. They usually claim that friends fear a celebrity is ill, which they can get away with because friends" arent medical experts. But doctors? They know if cancer has spread to the brain or not.

Michael Douglas knows he could pass away at any time, an unnamed source tells the Enquirer. Shocking. Couldnt we all?

Meghan Markles Wedding Dilemmas dominate the cover of Us magazine, which details the brides 11 agonizing decisions. These make first world problems seem trivial: What tiara will she wear? Will her dad walk her down the aisle? Who will design her dress? The one question they dont address: Who cares?

People magazine devotes its cover to TVs former Today show host Ann Curry, who breaks her silence and opens up about the pain of leading the Today show. Okay, how much did it hurt? It hurt like hell . . but Im stronger now. Good to know.

Fortunately we have the crack investigative team at Us magazine to tell us that Alessandra Ambrosio wore it best, that actress Elsa Patakys worst habit is eating doughnuts, that Xscape singer Kandi Burruss carries lipstick, perfume and deodorant in her tote, and that the stars are just like us: they pump gas, buy toilet paper, and eat lunch. Enlightening, as always.

The National Examiner once again brings us the weeks best headline: E.T. Stole My Virginity! in which David Huggins, aged 74, of New Jersey, reveals a VERY close encounter he had as a teen. Huggins claims in a new documentary that he not only lost his virginity to an alien, but that he fathered dozens of alien hybrid children. She had a very nice body, says Huggins of his extra-terrestrial lover. Sounds about as plausible as everything else in this weeks tabloids.

Onwards and downwards . . .

Trump is a sledgehammer dismantling the Obama agenda …

Amid the wide spectrum of analysts assessing the first year of Donald Trump presidency, I thought I'd weigh in with some thoughts on how that grading process is going.

Let's stipulate that most Americans left-of-center are experiencing some degree of despair. I feel their pain. In fact, I felt it directly during 16 of the last 25 years, when I too had to endure presidencies I did not vote for.

Predictably, there are also Trump loyalists who give him straight As on everything, with no demerits for the occasional unfortunate tweet or the stray moment of decorum beneath the office.

That's not me. While I am beyond pleased to welcome the most conservative agenda since President Ronald Reagan, I have not been a fan of some of the chapters that have required me to say "That's just Trump being Trump." The presidency does not need unforced errors like the recent vulgar remarkabout other countries, if he actually said it.

But here's the phenomenon of the moment: a lot of conservatives are so discombobulated by their stylistic gripes with Trump that they are blind to what has happened in one short year: the achievement of more conservative goals than virtually any other 2016 GOP candidate could have dreamed of.

My initial choice was Sen. Ted Cruz, on the logic that he would dismantle the Obama agenda with the skill of a surgeon. It now seems that what was needed was not a scalpel but a sledgehammer. Trump is that sledgehammer, and he has delivered magnificent blows to our punitive tax system, our suffocating regulatory state and to the political correctness that endangers religious freedom. And that's just for starters.

Those blows have claimed some collateral damage. His behavior has not always been mannerly. His words have not always been well-chosen. His methods have not always been conventional.

But if I were to allow that to mitigate or even outweigh the sheer joy of this first year's results, I'd be out of my mind.
