Jonathans administration, most reckless, corrupt -APC campaign

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation on Thursday described the President Goodluck Jonathan administration as recklessness and corrupt.

It expressed regret that apart from its corruption and reckless behavior, the Jonathan administration has achieved an unprecedented distinction in dividing Nigerians along ethno-religious lines and has taken it to a new height by destroying long years of international relationships Nigeria has built over the years.

Director of Media and Publicity of the APCPCO, Mallam Garba Shehu, said this at a press conference in Abuja.

He explained that since President Jonathan took over power over four years ago, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has not recorded a single high profile conviction.

This, he said, is in stark contrast to the EFCCs past record, where former governors and other senior public officials accused of defrauding the Nigerian people were tried and prosecuted.

Shehu said, Thus, we can safely say that President Jonathan has muzzled the EFCC. He has turned one of our countrys most respected and revered institutions into a toothless bulldog without even as much as a bark.

It is startling to see the dexterity with which the President sacked the former chairman of the SURE-P scheme owing to his pronouncement on the desirability of change. Meanwhile, ministers and other senior members of his government who have heavy allegations of corruption hanging on their necks still comfortably retain their positions.

Not only has he bound the EFCC from doing its job, Mr. Jonathan has also reversed some previous achievements of the commission by granting state pardon to erstwhile government officials whom it had uncovered as guilty of corruption.

To make matters worse, at present the EFCC itself is in turmoil. Its chairman is accused by staff of corruption. The commissions staff are also being owed salaries and entitlements, having not been paid for three months.

Nigeria, he said, has remained in an abysmal low on the Transparency International ranking of corrupt countries in the world.

PDP, APC clash over Nigeria-Morocco row

The All Progressives Congress and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday berated each other over the diplomatic row between Nigeria and Morocco.

Last week, Morocco said its leader King Mohammed VI, had declined a request for a telephone conversation with President Goodluck Jonathan.

But the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja on Monday denied the snub, saying the two leaders had spoken extensively.

It also denied that the Federal Government was using Mohammed VI to woo Muslim voters in Nigeria.

But on Wednesday, the Moroccan authorities described as a lie, the claim by the Federal Government that Jonathan had a telephone conversation with King Mohammed VI.

The North African nation also recalled its ambassador to Nigeria over what it described as the incredible twist that Nigeria introduced into the dispute.

On Thursday, the opposition APC asked the President to address Nigerians on the cause of the ongoing diplomatic row between Nigeria and Morocco.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said President Jonathan must in, particular, clarify the thorny issue of whether or not he spoke with King Mohammed.

The party said until the President addressed the issue, Nigerians would remain a nation of liars.

Polls shift, a blessing, says APC support group

Akinwunmi Ambode

A support group for the All Progressives Congress Lagos governorship candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode, says the shift in the general elections from February to March 28 and April 11 is a blessing to the party and the candidate.

The group said the shift had helped the candidate and the party to reach out to more people and sort some knotty issues.

The Coordinator of the group in Oshodi -Isolo Local Government Area, Chief Jide Oni, said this on Thursday during a road-show organised in support of Ambode in the area, adding that the group was sure of victory for the party.

Some of the streets visited by the group are Ajisegiri, Oyegunwa, Makinde, Olatunki Arowojobe, Deyemi, Mukadassi, Mafoluku, Ifoshi, Ikoyun, Fadu Avenu, Ailegun, among others.

Oni stated that the group, which was formed by APC governorship aspirants, had ensured better co-ordination for door-to-door campaigns and provided assistance where needed.

He said, The massive support from the residents of the state has made us to realise that we are on the right path. We have used the postponement to achieve 100 per cent success in mobilisation. We have discovered that we have more supporters than we envisaged before the postponement. We can boast now that if the elections were held today, we would have about 90 per cent of the votes.

We are embarking on more house-to-house campaign. We are also conducting awareness programmes to sensitise the electorate. We will do this till the eve of the elections.

Oni explained that the group was put together to put all hands on deck and ensure that everybody contributed effectively to the partys victory.

He said the party had recorded high-rate performance in Lagos State, adding that it could not be said of the party at the federal level.

I rejected Jonathans VP offer Tinubu

A national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, says the recent attacks on his person were because he rejected the offer by President Goodluck Jonathan to serve as the Vice President in an Interim National Government.

Tinubu said in a statement by his media office on Thursday that having refused the offer, Jonathan was looking for ways to take him out either by killing him or getting him arrested based on trumped up charges.

The former governor of Lagos State said the Peoples Democratic Party had never been this rattled in its 16 years in power.

He said Jonathan blamed him for the successful merger of the APC and the momentum the APC presidential candidate, Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) was gaining.

Tinubu said with the North-West and the South-West- the two most populous geo-political zones in the hands, of the APC, it was certain that the PDP would lose.

From what can be gathered through informed sources, the PDP and Jonathan Presidency had recently tried to fracture the APC by offering Tinubu the position of vice President in an interim government if he would agree to part company with the popular Buhari. Once Tinubu rebuffed the offer to participate in the interim scheme, the presidency decided to change tactics. It would no longer try to entice Tinubu with sugar but would now move to silence and if necessary neutralise him.

The APC National leader has caused President Jonathans team countless headaches this campaign season, his declining the interim government offer is just the latest.

The former governor said the recent hate documentaries televised were part of the desperate attempt by Jonathan to discredit him.
