The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation on Wednesday urged the South-West to ignore President Goodluck Jonathans repeated promises to implement the National Conference report.

The APC campaign said the Presidents promises contained nothing that approximates to the zones collective interest.

According to the organisation, whilst it was not averse to any group supporting any candidate for the forthcoming general elections, it considered it important to state that a recent purported endorsement of Jonathan by former Confab conferees from the South-West was predicated on spurious and utterly dishonest reasons.

This was contained in a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of the campaign, Malam Garba Shehu.

He noted that the points of the Yoruba agenda that could have favoured the South-West, including regional autonomy, restructuring, devolution of power and parliamentary system, could not sail through at the conference.

Shehu alleged that the real reason for the endorsement was the because of personal economy.

The statement read, Some of them have had their personal finances transformed by way of juicy but dubious security contracts and handsome cash largesse by the government of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan at the expense of Nigerian people.

We consider it asinine that any group can predicate its support for Dr. Goodluck Jonathan on his promise to respect any agreement. The antecedents of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan speak eloquently of a serial promise breaker, unreliable keeper of gentlemanly agreement and unabashed turncoat!

It will be recalled that the first real show of Dr. Goodluck Jonathans immense capacity for not keeping to pacts was when he, in 2010, conveniently walked away from his partys North/South zoning arrangement, of which he was signatory to, with indescribable villainy.

The campaign argued that of all the 492 members of the National confab members, none was elected by the people.

Patience Jonathan

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation on Wednesday described the wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan, as an incredibly crude woman, but thanked Nigerians for putting up with her.

The campaign was reacting to news that Mrs. Jonathan described general Buhari as brain dead at a campaign rally in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, a day earlier.

This was contained in a statement signed by the campaigns Director of Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja.

According to the campaign, it is not only insulting for Mrs. Jonathan to describe the Presidential Candidate of APC, General Muhammadu Buhari, as brain-dead, it is also demeaning of her status as the First Lady.

The APC campaign urged President Jonathan to call his wife to order.

Shehu said, it was discourteous and inexcusable for a wife of any president with a modicum of decency to make such a false and infantile pronouncement about the health status of another man on account of politics.

The APCPCO recalled that in recent time, Mrs. Jonathan had made statements invoking violence like she did in Calabar over the weekend when she urged PDP supporters to stone all those canvassing for change.

Shehu stressed that it was below the standard of a wife of a president to stoop so low to call for violent attacks against members of the opposition.

The statement noted that while a good number of Nigerians are not taken by surprise by Mrs. Jonathans recent incredulous pronouncements, it is important for her husband to put her in bridles in the spirit of the Abuja Peace Accord.

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has tasked Governor Ayodele Fayose to spare time for real governance, saying endless war drums against its presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and frequent trips outside the state without economic benefits would not add any value to the people.

It also asked the governor to explain to the people how he had been spending the state federal allocations since his inauguration.

The State APC Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, said in a statement on Wednesday that this became imperative in the face of the lull in governments activities to fulfill campaign promises to Ekiti people.

He said after five months in the saddle, the governor was yet to give any sign that he was prepared for governance.

After five months, the stories of debts profile still dominate the public space instead of unveiling his development programmes. What we have is frequent shuttling between the capitals of the Far East countries and a reversal of development efforts of the immediate past administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi, Olatubosun said.

He challenged the governor to tell Ekiti people that the state had been granted a moratorium of six months within which deductions from the Federation Account for payment of bond debt was suspended.

Describing the five months administration of Fayose as a reversal of fortunes, the APC spokesman faulted the government for unemployment caused by cancellation of empowerment schemes introduced by Fayemis administration.

Some members of the All Progressives Congress have lambasted the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, for reportedly mocking the APC presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (Retd), and questioning his mental health.

The first lady had told supporters at the campaign rally in Calabar, Cross River, to vote for my husband, Jonathan. Do not vote for Buhari. He is an old man. People, when they become old, may not reason well and their brain may even be dead.

Online media had reported that she also told the group to stone the APC supporters if they told them to vote the Buhari.

Reacting to the development, a former presidential candidate in the 2011 election and publisher of Ovation magazine, Dele Momodu, said it was unfortunate that those in President Jonathans camp still had not stopped inciting Nigerians to violence. He wondered why the PDP had continued to make remarks that were capable of creating more tension in the polity.

Momodu added, via Twitter, that a key supporter of the President admitted that some PDP members were doing more damage to his re-election bid than good.

I just spoke to a very influential supporter of Jonathan who expressed sadness that the hawks were doing so much damage to his campaign, he tweeted.

The leaders and presidential candidates of the PDP and APC had earlier signed a peace accord as part of their efforts to ensure peaceful elections in the country.

Also, shortly after President Jonathan and Buhari had signed the pact, the governorship candidates of their respective political parties in various states had to follow their examples.

But the recent statement credited to the First Lady may have ignited the same ethnic tensions that the peace accord was expected to tackle in the first place. Some commentators have already started viewing her comment as anti-north.

An ex-Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and Kaduna State governorship candidate, Nasir el-Rufai, was one of those who interpreted the statement as being targeted at northerners.
