Fayose plans to sack workers, harassing teachers APC

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has alleged thatGovernor Ayodele Fayose is planning to sack workers after the forthcoming general elections.

The party alsoaccused the governor of undue harassment of teachers perceived not to be friendly with his government, describing it as not a mark of dispassionate leadership.

In a statement on Tuesday in Ado Ekiti, the State Publicity Secretary, Tauwo Olatubosun, alleged that the governor had embarked on selective transfersof some teachers from towns to the remote communities across the state.

We are worried that shortly after he was sworn in, the governor started marking down all the teachers he perceived as not supporting him for punishment.

What we have now is taking authority to transfer teachers from the Teaching Service Commission and place it in the hands of his Special Assistant on Internal Security, who goes around schools in the state, pointing to those to be transferred to rural areas and telling them the reasons for that punishment, Olatubosun said.

But Fayoses Special Assistant on Information, Lanre Ogunsuyi, in an interview with our correspondent, said the allegation was unfounded.

He said, The APC, having tried unsuccessfully to give us a difficult beginning, is now embarking on another round of propaganda. But we are determined and focused. We are not going to sack workers because they are the people that voted for us.

As for posting of teachers, it is a routine thing. We are aware that education was at the lowest ebb in the last administration, even after states having challenges of Boko Haram.

The reorganisation of the primary and secondary has been left in the hands of professionals. We have allowed the Head of Service, who is a professional, to have a free hand. So, whoever is posted knows it is within the ambit of his employment letter and terms of condition.

The APC spokesmansaid it was callous to plan the retrenchment of workers after refusing to pay their two months salaries.

Osinbajo threatens legal action against Fani-Kayode for defamation

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo

The Vice Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), has threatened a legal action against the spokesman for the President Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation, Mr. Femi Fani-kayode, for what he termed defamation of his person.

Fani-kayode had, in a recent press statement made available to various media house, alleged that Osinbajo had taking a secret oath with a national leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, to relinquish power as the vice president to Tinubu after six months in office, in the event that the APC won the presidential election.

Fani-kayode had, in the statement titled APC is selling a dummy to the whole world; Tinubu is the real candidate, reportedly described Osinbajo as a stooge in the hands of Tinubu.

But Osinbajo, in a pre-litigation letter to Fani-kayode on Tuesday, asked him to within seven days retract the said defamatory statement or be prepared for litigation.

In the letter written on his behalf by his lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), the senior advocate also asked Fani-Kayode to tender a public apology to him which should be aired on four television stations and published in four national dailies in addition to a payment of N2bn for the damages already done against his person.

Falana said Fani-kayodes statement was not only false but was specifically targeted at impugning Osinbajos character and lower him in the estimation of right thinking members of the public.

He described Fani-Kayodes statement as vicious, wicked and reckless, adding that the claims were inconsistent with Osinbajos faith, role and ethics as a pastor, a professor of Law and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

Falana, while saying that Fani-kayodes statement suggested that Osinbajo was complicit in a fraud against the Nigerian people, maintained that such statement negated Osinbajos publicly acclaimed and validated record of competence, honesty and integrity.

He therefore asked Fani-Kayode to retract the statement with public apology or we shall proceed with our clients instruction to seek appropriate legal remedies for your publication and dissemination of defamatory statements.

Fuel: APC fingers unpaid subsidy, $12bn gas fund looting

The All Progressives Congress has said the real causes of thedebilitating fuel scarcity across the country are the looting of the$12 billion domestic gas fund under President Goodluck Jonathans watch, as well as the Administrations failure to pay fuel subsidy andthe cost of interests on bank loans to oil marketers, thus making it impossible for them to begin another round of importation of refinedpetroleum products.

In a statement issued in Dubai on Tuesday by its National PublicitySecretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the PDP and the Jonathan Administration decided to divert attention from thoseproblems by accusing the opposition of being responsible for the scarcity a most laughable and irresponsible statement by a sittinggovernment that is always so eager to blame everyone but itself for the nations woes.

It recalled that the Coordinating Minister of the Economyand Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala had, in February, promised topay all subsidies owed to the marketers then in the sum of N264billion, along with the accrued interest.

APC said, however, that the failure to meet this obligation has madeit impossible for the oil marketers, who are being owed heavily, to finance another round of products importation.

The truth is that this profligate government has run Nigeria aground, and the oil sector, whether upstream or downstream, has particularly suffered hugely. The quantity of petroleum products that was imported has almost been fully consumed, without fresh products being brought in to augment supplies that have now fallen well below re-order level.

The implication is that in addition to worsening power supply, crumbling prices of oil at the international market, weakening Naira and unprecedented corruption, Nigerians who routinely provide their own electricity to power their homes and business, now have to face another round of government-imposed hardship with the ongoing fuel scarcity, the party said.

It said the fuel crisis would not have reached the stage it is in now had the $12 billion domestic gas project fund not been looted under President Jonathans watch. This is because, with the project being executed, many vehicles, cooking stoves and generators would have been converted to use gas to reduce the importation of PMS, diesel and kerosene, and gas would have been available to fire the gas turbines at power stations while more power would have been delivered to the national grid.

APC accused President Jonathan of sabotaging the domestic gas project started by the late President Umaru Musa YarAdua, with the $12 billion cash call provisions for gas development for domestic power generation looted under his (President Jonathan) watch.
