The Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday reacted angrily to allegations by the All Progressives Congress that it was behind the bombing in Gombe State.

The Presidency on Sunday described a statement credited to the All Progressives Congress that the Jonathan administration and the PDP are behind the attack recorded in Gombe on Saturday as false, baseless and stupid.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said this in an interview with our correspondent.

Abati said contrary to the APCs claims, the President and the PDP were ready for elections.

He said there was no reason for Jonathan and his party to be causing trouble in any part of the country.

The presidential spokesman said. All the allegations by Lai Muhammed are false, baseless and stupid. President Jonathan is committed to ensuring free, fair and credible elections.

The PDP is ready for the elections and it is worth pointing out that the poll shift that has been announced by INEC benefits the APC more because the areas where there are security challenges are the strongholds of the APC.

Also, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Jalo, in his reaction to the APC statement said, out of its desperation for power, the opposition party has lost direction.

Ondo APC petitions IG over harassment of members

Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba

The All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has called on the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, to intervene in the harassment of its members in some parts of the state.

APC chairman in the state, Isaac Kekemeke, in a petition to the IGP, which was obtained by our correspondent, on Sunday, alleged that members of the Armed Forces and the police were working with a private security outfit owned by an ex-militant to molest and assault APC members in Ese-Odo area of the state.

He said the ex-militant, popularly known as General Shoot at Sight, is a known PDP leader in the riverine communities of the state.

He said, The combined team of soldiers and policemen, without regard to law and due process, have imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on the waterways of Ese-Odo Local Government Area, particularly the waterways from the Akotogbo junction of Arogbo Ward 1 to Arogbo Ward 3, Ukparama 1 and 2 wards. Our party members have been severely molested and physically assaulted on the basis of this capricious curfew.

Kekemeke recalled that on January 24, 2015, some APC members from Arogbo Ward 3, Ukparama 1 and 2 wards, who were returning to their villages from the APC presidential rally at Akure, were prevented from continuing their journey and were forced to sleep in their canoes and boats just because it was 6pm.

He noted that in spite of this curfew, General shoot at sight and other PDP members had free access to the waterways at any time of the day and night.

He said the law did not permit a private security outfit to impose a curfew, urging the IG to immediately stop the embarrassing situation.

The party chief said, We, therefore, appeal to you to quickly take appropriate steps as this is foisting untold hardship on our party members on one hand and conferring advantage on the PDP members on the other hand.

We take this seriously because there is clearly an indication by the ex-militant and the PDP to take advantage of this in the general elections by using the combined team of the private security men and soldiers to compromise the elections.

Niger borrows N5bn to finance rigging APC

The Niger State All Progressives Congress on Sunday accused the state government of borrowing N5bn to bankroll the Peoples Democratic Partys plans to rig the forthcoming general elections.

APC states Publicity Secretary, Mr. Jonathan Vatsa, stated this while addressing newsmen in Minna, adding that the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs borrowed N3bn while the state government borrowed N2bn to make a total debt of N5bn.

Vatsa alleged that the government borrowed the money for the purpose of buying over security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission in rigging the election in favour of PDP, calling on the security agencies to stop :all unholy alliances with the government.

He said the state government had recently summoned a meeting with all the INEC state electoral officers, where the deal to assist the ruling party in rigging the election was sealed.

At the end of the meeting, each electoral officer was given N100,000 while it was also agreed that the sum of N3bn will be released to them when the election commences, he said.

The APC spokesman added that the PDP administration had realised too late that it had become very unpopular and could not win any free and fair election in the state, which had forced it to resort to frantic efforts to rig the election through inducement.

He stated that a PDP woman supporter had been caught in Chanchanga area of Minna, buying voter card at N20,000 each, advising that the Police should not overlook these electoral offences by the ruling party.

APC spokesman lamented that the government was piling up heavy debt burden on the people and the incoming government just to induce voters, adding that we in APC are calling on the people of Niger State not to sell their votes and their future for a pot of porridge.

The state government has, however, described the APC claim of borrowing N5bn loan as untrue, saying it was a lie from the pit of hell.

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Israel Ebije, the state called on the opposition party to produce documents to back its claims.
