Jonathan planning to install interim govt APC

Alhaji Lai Mohammed

The All Progressives Congress says the ultimate plan of the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government is to postpone the elections and install an interim government.

The party said President Goodluck Jonathan had become jittery, knowing that he would lose the elections.

The APC, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Tuesday, said this just as some groups on Tuesday staged protests at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, demanding the postponement of the elections.

On Monday, four Nigerians approached an Abuja High Court, demanding that the elections should be shifted so as to enable those without Permanent Voter Cards to collect their cards.

The PDP had denied the allegations that it was behind the calls for the postponement of the election but the APC said most of the protests were being sponsored by President Goodluck Jonathan so as to have reasons to postpone the elections.

The statement read, Despite their defeat in the court of public of opinion, the no-election proponents are now working hard on their back-up plan, which is to force a constitutional crisis that will ultimately lead to their goal: Interim Government!

Despite sponsoring pseudo-experts and cash-and-carry analysts to make the television rounds to canvass for the postponement of the election, in addition to instigating protests against INEC, Nigerians have rejected the call for election shift, which is a big blow to those who want the elections postponed to give the Jonathan administration time to recover lost ground.

The advocates of election shift may have retreated, but they have not given up on their push to scuttle the elections. In fact, a conference organised on Monday to consider the resolution of the National Conference on the 2015 elections was turned into a campaign for election postponement by the usual culprits.

But the Nigerian Army has denied knowledge of any plan for an interim government as being speculated in the social media.

Buharis wife urges women not to sell PVCs

Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari

The wife of the All Progressives Congress Presidential candidate, Mrs. Aishatu Buhari, on Tuesday urged Nigerian women to resist the temptation of selling their voter cards.

Mrs. Buhari also appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission not to shift the February 14 date for the presidential election.

She spoke through the Coordinator of the APC Women Presidential Campaign Initiative, Hajia Salamatu Jibril, at the sensitisation workshop in Abuja.

Mrs. Buhari stressed the importance of women participating actively in the general elections. She enjoined all women not to only cast their votes but also ensure that they guard their votes jealously until the results were announced.

She said, In view of this, I urge all to obtain your Permanent Voter Cards and also enjoin others to also get theirs to enable them to vote for the party during election.

More importantly is that you also recognise the logo and know how to thumb print appropriately to prevent void votes. I also want to appeal to you not to sell your vote to any party as it is the only weapon you can use to drive the PDP out of government.

She also enjoined all well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on INEC not to tinker with the February 14 date for the elections.

I also want to acknowledge your highly influential role as mothers, particularly on your households, and therefore urge you to caution your children to shun any form of violence before, during and after the elections, she said.

She also noted that women were the most vulnerable in the society especially during crisis.

Corrupt officials in my govt will be punished Buhari

February 3, 2015 by Kayode Idowu, Maiduguri 25 Comments

The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), on Tuesday said any public officials, who betrayed the trust of Nigerians and illegally enrich himself under his administration, would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

He promised Nigerians that there would be no hiding place for corrupt elected officials, including governors, and all other government officials in his administration.

Buhari gave the assurance at his Presidential rally, held at the Pantami International Stadium, Gombe.

He said, We must do away with corruption as well as develop the Nigerian economy if we are elected into office by the grace of God. Any official that is elected or appointed to serve under me, must be transparent because if any of them embezzles public funds, he will face the consequences.

The presidential hopeful also promised to boost electricity supply in all parts of the country, and revive moribund industries in order to address unemployment.

Our youths are suffering and walking around the streets without employment but we will strive to make them gainfully employed, so as to disengage them from vices that can destroy their future, Buhari stated.

The APC Presidential candidate said he would also look into ways of collaborating with advanced countries to revamp the agriculture sector.

He said schools would also be given a facelift and qualified teachers would be recruited.

Also speaking at the rally, the National Chairman of the party, John Oyegun, called on the Nigerian public to vote massively for the APC in the forthcoming election, to guarantee progress and development.
