Fayose led thugs to attack me -Senatorial candidate

January 23, 2015 by Kamarudeen Ogundele, Ado-Ekiti 19 Comments

The All Progressives Congress candidate for Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Amb. Gbenga Olofin, has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of leading thugs to attack him on Friday.

He also alleged that the governor supervised the tearing and destruction of his posters and billboards in all the local government areas of the district.

In a statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, Olofin said the Fayose-led thugs, who were armed with dangerous weapons, including axes, cutlass and guns among others, unleashed terror on major towns across the district.

He said, The thugs, who masked their faces, were conveyed in Hilux vans with Ekiti State number plate, ransacked shops and houses at Iyin and Igede Ekiti, inflicted matchet wounds on innocent people while carrying out their heinous acts in daylight.

The thugs, who shot sporadically to air, injured people and also looted shops and houses in the area.

Olofin, who said he escaped the attack by the whiskers, called on security agencies in the state to brace for the current security challenges in the state to prevent the loss of lives and property.

He described the attack on innocent people in the state as nothing but a desperation of a drowning person, saying no amount of attack would prevent people from voting for APC in the state.

The APC candidate said the people of the state had made up their minds to vote for APC in the state and that no amount of intimidation, harrassement, poster tearing and billboard destruction can change the will of the people.

He urged the people of the state to remain steadfast and more determined to actualise the needed change in the state and Nigeria as a whole.

APGA adopts Enugu PDP gov candidate

The All Progressives Grand Alliance in Enugu State has adopted the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for the February 28 governorship election.

The party explained that the move was informed by its confidence in Ugwuanyis capacity to govern Enugu State.

APGA chairman in Enugu State, Chief Okechukwu Nkolagu, who announced the development while addressing journalists at the partys secretariat in Enugu, noted that it would have been an effort in futility if the party had fielded a candidate to challenge Ugwuanyi.

Nkolagu pointed out that several politicians wanted to use the partys platform to contest the governorship election.

But, according to him, the party was cautious on the issue of a governorship candidate.

He said, Rather we tried to distill for an aspirant that will command the influence of majority of the people of the state and one who would also be capable of enthroning a better governance in the state.

I have the pleasure to inform you that the search was rigorous but at the end, the party settled to adopt Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as its governorship candidate for the February 28, 2015 governorship election in Enugu State.

He added that the adoption of the PDP governorship candidate at the state level was in line with the partys decision to adopt President Goodluck Jonathan at the national level.

We therefore enjoin all our party members, supporters and admirers of APGA in the state to help work for and deliver Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the next governor of Enugu State.

We have no doubt in our mind that he will take Enugu State to a greater prosperity and achieve a secured future for the state, he added.

Fuel price reduction, political gimmick APC chief

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Mr. Fatai Olukoga, has described the reduction in the price of petrol from N97 to N87 by President Goodluck Jonathan as a political gimmick.

He said the reduction was not commensurate with the fall in the global price of crude oil.

Olukoga, who is also the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Education, spoke on Thursday when students of some tertiary institutions in the South-West visited him in his Alausa, Ikeja office.

According to him, the reduction in the fuel price was belated because it came a few weeks to the next general elections.

He urged Nigerians to be wary of what he called deceitful tactics employed by the Peoples Democratic Party-led government to woo them for support.

Olukoga said, The reduction is not proportional to the drop in the prices of crude in the international market. In fact, if Jonathans administration is serious at all, it ought to have brought the fuel price down to N67 per litre.

From the foregoing, I want to advise voters to be wary of any deceitful carrot Jonathan is dangling before them.

What Nigeria needs now is a change from bad to good, from darkness to light and to achieve this, I appeal to Nigerians to endeavour to tell the President with their votes that they are not fools; they should tell him that they are not ready to be deceived anymore.

The students coordinator, Mr. Opeyemi Eniola, said they had decided to mobilise support for the APC governorship candidate in Lagos State, Mr. Akin Ambode, and the partys presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), because of their competency.

Eniola said, We have no doubt in the ability of the two personalities going by their previous excellent performances while in government in the past.
