I wont probe the military -Buhari

The Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday denied a newspapers report (not the Punch) that he would subject the military and other arms of government to probes if elected president in the February 14 election.

Buhari made the clarification through a statement signed by Mr. Garba Shehu of the Directorate of Media and Publicity, APC Presidential Campaign Organisation.

The retired military general, however, said his administration would decisively deal with all cases of impunity and corruption, no matter who is involved.

The statement further reiterated Buharis stance that when elected into office in February, the era of impunity will be over for the rogues. But there is no time for engaging in probes or witch hunts.

It also quoted Buhari as saying that he was passionately concerned about the conditions of the armed forces at the moment.

Buhari, according to the statement lamented that despite huge budgetary allocations, the country have failed to effectively deal with security threats including the Boko Haram terrorism.

The statement reads in part, What he (Buhari) said at every given opportunity is that he is keenly interested in knowing what has gone wrong, if any, with the army that he knew. When he has access to them as Commander-in-Chief, he will like to hear from his commanders what are the problems they are dealing with so that they can be solved.

In a democracy such as ours, all institutions of government, including the armed forces, are accountable. No country can achieve results in its counter-terrorism efforts when there is no transparency in the management of huge resources for the purpose.

He (General Buhari) will reinvigorate the armed forces and restore their rapidly evaporating morale.

Fayemi didnt donate N1.5 bn for campaign -APC

February 1, 2015 by Kamarudeen Ogundele, Ado Ekiti 14 Comments

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has dismissed as spurious the allegation that former Governor Kayode Fayemi donated N1.5bn to the Buhari Campaign Organisation.

The party which said Fayemi had no account with Barclays Bank in Ghana said such wicked allegation was the handiwork of the Peoples Democratic Party-led government in the state.

A statement by the Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, stated that some officials of the PDP had been identified as masterminds of the SMS being syndicated on the Internet and the state news media alleging that Fayemi made the donation.

The spurious allegation, which started as a syndicated SMS by PDP officials, was later broadcast on the state radio and television under the supervision of state officials, Olatunbosun said.

According to him, the allegation is merely a panicky response by the PDPs administration to the Buharis growing popularity across the nation as well as the imminent change through the February 14 poll.

This latest attempt to tarnish the good image of Dr Fayemi through this wicked and senseless allegation has failed just like other plots being hatched by the PDP in the build-up to the general elections.

Dr Fayemi stands out around the world as impeccable in all his dealings. He never donated any money to the campaign, neither did he lobby before he was appointed to organise APC convention. He did not lobby before he was considered to be vice presidential candidate of APC. He has never been associated with fraud.

Olatunbosun said the fresh antic was to divert peoples attention from the failure of the Governor to account for the N22bn refunds for federal road constructed by the state and N2bn ecological fund the Federal Government paid into the coffers of Ekiti State government.

It is important to place it on record that Dr Fayemi does not have any account with any Barclays Bank in any part of the world, hence the issue of the donation does not arise.

APC slams DSS, police silence on ex-militants war threat

The All Progressives Congress has slammed the DSS and the Police for their loud silence on the threats of war by ex-militants if President Goodluck Jonathan should lose this months election, saying the failure of the security agencies to act is an indication of their double standard and lack of fairness.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said it is insightful to note that the same security agencies that reacted with hysteria to the harmless comments by Governor Rotimi Amaechi have suddenly lost their voices when the ex-militants threatened to wage war on the nation.

When Governor Amaechi said soldiers had the right to protest if their welfare was not taken care of, the DSS was at its most efficient level, with its voluble spokesperson threatening fire and brimstone and only stopping short of arresting the Governor, despite his immunity.

When the same Gov. Amaechi said the APC will form a parallel government if the February 14 and 28 elections were rigged, the same DSS and the police sought to outdo one another with threats and condemnation of what they called inciting comments, even when Gov. Amaechis warning was conditional.

Now, the ex-militants have said President Jonathan must be re-elected or they will unleash violence on the country. In other words, it is immaterial whether or not he loses in a free and fair elections. There is no clearer indication of impunity than the action of the ex-militants, who issued their threats in the Bayelsa government house, with the Governor of the state in attendance.

More than a week later, the DSS has been missing in action while the police, in what can pass as a most shocking reaction, said they are still studying the ex-militants comments. Even after former Defence Minister Gen.Theophilus Danjuma called for the arrest of the ex-militants for their treasonable threats, and the ex-militants had the audacity to repeat the threats, the police still continued to study the threats. This is simply unbelievable, it said.

APC said the implication of the conspiracy of inaction by the DSS and the police is that, under the Administration of President Jonathan, there are different rules for different Nigerians, wondering how the security agencies can be trusted to provide a level playing ground for all political parties before, during and after the forthcoming general elections.

For supporters of President Jonathan, there is no law, there is no police, there is no DSS. Their support for the President is a licence for lawlessness and irresponsibility, and if at all there is any law, they remain far above such law. That is why they could dare the entire nation by issuing such treasonable comments and get away with their action, the party said.

It called on Nigerians to take note of the glaring double standard of the security agencies, while urging local and international observers to closely monitor the activities of the security agents before, during and after the polls.

Buhari was never stoned in Lagos, APC tells Obanikoro

The All Progressives Congress has denied a report by the immediate past Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, that the APC presidential candidate, Maj. Gen Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), was pelted with stones in Lagos on Friday.

Obanikoro had issued a statement condemning the purported stoning of Buhari on the Lagos Island, where the APC presidential candidate and other party leaders went to pay homage to the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu.

However, the APC, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said Obanikoro was only trying to impress President Goodluck Jonathan because he had been nominated as a minister.

The party said Buhari and the party leaders were not stoned but rather received cheers from bystanders, who are eager for a change in the leadership of the country.

The statement read, Gen. Buhari and other top leaders of the APC rode in an open bus from the Palace of the Oba of Lagos to the Teslim Balogun Stadium venue of the rally, to great cheers from Lagosians, who lined the route.

Not once was he pelted with a stone during the almost two-hour ride. It is obvious that those who were paid by Obanikoro to stone the General failed to deliver. We therefore urge him to seek a refund of whatever money he paid to his hired hands to pelt Gen. Buhari with stones.

Obanikoros statement on an imaginary attack on Gen. Buhari in Lagos must be his own way of saying thank you to his masters for nominating him as minister on Friday, as his reward for ceding the governorship ticket he claimed to have won to Jimi Agbaje.

The party thanked the people of Lagos for turning out in unprecedented numbers to welcome Buhari to Lagos, saying the Centre of Excellence(Lagos) had never witnessed such a huge and cheery crowd.
