Nigeriall move forward again Buhari

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari has expressed confidence that Nigeria will move forward again.

Buhari said this while expressing gratitude to Nigerians for believing in him and giving his campaign a rousing welcome everywhere he went.

He said this in a statement signed on his behalf by the Director of the APC Presidential Campaign, Mallam Garba Shehu, in Abuja, on Thursday.

According to him, the huge reception his campaign trails have received in all the states visited across the country thus far, indicates how desperately Nigerians are yearning for change.

Buhari said, I appreciate the trust and confidence in me. Our country shall move forward again. The country is tired of try and error leadership that is imbued with absolute corruption.

Let your vote count because it is the only instrument we have to fight for the change we so earnestly desire.

He also thanked Nigerians for having confidence in him to right the several wrongs bedeviling the country.

The statement partly read: This is to appreciate the people of this great country for the wide acceptance to vote for change in the coming election.

The issues of corruption, insecurity, lies, weak economy among several atrocities and damage that have been done to the country are enough reasons for change.

The saying that you can fool the people sometime, but you cant fool the people all the time is applicable here.

Presidency, PDP plotting to scuttle polls APC

National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Lai Mohammed

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by the Peoples Democratic Party and the President Jonathan-led government, to scuttle the 2015 general elections.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Director, Media and Publicity of the campaign, Mallam Garba Shehu, in Abuja, on Thursday.

Shehu disclosed that the APC had it on good authority that the kernel of the plan was to use the subterfuge of the frivolous litigation by some people to get a court pronouncement to disqualify the APC candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

According to him, the PDP was seeking to build a case to the effect that Buhari lied under oath in saying that the military had his certificate, whereas the military had denied being in possession of the document.

Shehu revealed that the counter-arguments by the APCs candidates counsel would not matter because a particular Federal High judge had been prepared to do the hatchet job.

The APC noted that it was the PDPs calculation that this wicked pronouncement of disqualification of the APC candidate would precipitate spontaneous violent protests across the country.

Shehu said this scenario would then make President Goodluck Jonathan, the PDP candidate in the 2015 general election, to declare a six-month state of emergency across the land.

He alleged that the three-week long strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria was embarked upon on the prodding of the PDP-led Federal Government as a way to stymie any higher court from upturning the lower court pronouncement which ruled on President Jonathans eligibility to contest the February 14 election.

Sherrod Brown: Why arent progressives begging him to run for president?

Hes an unabashed progressive with just enough blue-collar appeal to win a swing state such as Ohio.

Hes the highest-ranking Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, with a megaphone to go after Wall Street and four decades of public service under his belt.

Hes an affable guy, appealing but not too slick, with smiling eyes and a good head of hair and a media-friendly feminist wife.

And he was preaching economic mobility years before it became the central tenet of the nascent 2016 campaign.

By almost any standard, Sen. Sherrod Brown, 62, a former Eagle Scout with a voice like Tom Waits, is the kind of pol who should at this very moment be making the rounds of the Sunday shows, growling to packed audiences in Iowa and all the while insisting to major media outlets that he is not considering running for president at this time. Or at least youd expect a bunch of liberal activists to be mounting a Draft Sherrod campaign. No?

Huh, I really had not thought about it until this phone call, said Adam Green of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee.

That, of course, is because all the attention has been heaped onto another, fresher-faced member of the Senate: the progressive rock star from Massachusetts, Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Just last week, Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo hosted a party at the house of Al Pacinos daughter, urging New York artists to urge Warren to run. Brown may have been Elizabeth Warren before Elizabeth Warren was cool, but theres scant evidence that the Ruffalos of this world even know who he is.

I dont see it as a competition, Brown said in an interview at his Senate office. Im always looking for allies, so was thrilled when she ran and am thrilled to have her in the Senate.

But why, Senator, why do you think people are so into Warren when you have been around saying the same stuff for years? Does it not sting a little?

I dont play games about it, he said. I dont say, Im not running now. I dont know what it is. I know you dont believe this, but I dont really think about it all that much.

Court lifts NCC ban on APC fund-raising platform

The All Progressives Congress on Wednesday secured an interim injunction, overruling the ban on its fund-raising platform by the Nigerian Communications Commission pending the determination of the substantive suit.

The ex-parte application brought by its counsel, Dr. Muiz Banire, was granted by Justice Ibrahim Buba of a Federal High Court in Lagos.

Justice Buba ordered that the defendants should immediately reactivate the applicants presidential campaign fund-raising SMS platform.

The judge also granted the applicant the leave to serve the respondents the originating summons and other processes outside the courts jurisdiction.

Justice Buba adjourned till February 4, 2014 to hear the substantive suit.

Meanwhile, the APC has asked the court to compel the NCC to pay it N25bn as damages for banning its presidential campaign fund-raising platform.

Joined with the NCC as respondents in the suit, marked FHC/L/CS/16/15, are Etisalat, MTN Nigeria Limited, Globacom Limited, Airtel Nigeria and Visafone Communications Limited.

In an 18-paragragh affidavit deposed to by one Ademola Sodiq, the APC accused the NCC of instructing the 2nd to 6th respondents to discontinue an SMS platform it created for the purpose of getting donations from willing members of the public for its presidential campaign.

Sodiq said the participatory fund-raising strategy was for members of the public to contribute N100 to the APCs presidential campaign fund each time they sent the APC as an SMS to 35350.

He explained that the partys strategy was borne out of its commitment to raising fund for its presidential campaign in a transparent and accountable manner.
