Explosion rocks APC secretariat in Rivers

January 11, 2015 by Chukwudi Akasike, Port Harcourt 63 Comments

THE All Progressives Congress in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State came under attack in the early hours of Sunday just as three members of the party were inflicted with machete cut injuries as they prepared for a rally in Rumueme, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The APC Chairman in Okrika Local Government Area, Mr. Christian Asifamak, who narrated how the ground floor of a three-storey building housing the party secretariat was attacked, explained that some unidentified person had thrown a dynamite in the secretariat, which exploded at about 3.14am.

Asifamaka stated that the incident occurred in Abam Ama community, adding that his office was worse hit as the entire wall was pulled down by the explosion.

In the early hours of the morning of Sunday January 11, 2015, some unknown group of persons threw dynamite into the party secretariat of our party, the All Progressives Congress in Abam Ama, Okrika Local Government Area.

The explosion which occurred at 3:14am exactly, destroyed our secretariat, bringing down the walls. The damage was quite extensive with the chairmans office being the worse hit.

The All Progressives Congress in Okrika views this latest attack as a deliberate provocation by our opponents, the Peoples Democratic Party to draw the APC into a battle that would destabilize our beloved local government area. This is unfortunate and the APC in Okrika would not allow Okrika to become a hotbed of crises as the PDP would wish, he said.

Asifamake pointed out that the PDPs resort to violence was as a result of its knowledge that Okrika people had rejected them because of their inability to attract any meaningful development to the LGA.

Till now the East-West Road through which we access our community has been left abandoned by a PDP-led Federal Government while Governor Chibuike Amaechi who is not an Okrika man built a ring road in Okrika and also rebuilt the portion of the Federal Government road that links the LGA to the Port Harcourt refinery.

We however wish to warn our brothers in the PDP to remember that the land of Okrika has been known to defend itself and its people against aggression and that any Okrika person who brings crisis to the land answers for it, he added.

SEast APC hails Buharis pledge on coal industry

Former Head of State, Gen.Muhammadu Buhari

The All Progressives Congress in the South-East has hailed the promise by the APC presidential candidate, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to revive the abandoned coal industry in Enugu.

Buhari had during a campaign rally in Enugu on Saturday promised to revamp the abandoned coal deposits in Enugu and use it for electricity generation in the South-East.

Reacting to the development, the APC spokesman in the zone, Osita Okechukwu, said Buhari had rekindled the hopes of the people of the South-East, who had been aggrieved over the plight of the coal industry.

Okechukwu in a statement said the coal deposits in Enugu, in the past, was used to power the Oji River Power Station, which generated electricity for the eastern region and beyond.

Okechukwu said, In those days, electricity from Oji River Power Station served industries in the eastern region like the Premier Cashew Industry, Oghe; Avop Vegetable Oil, Nachi; Sunrise Flour Mills; Aluminum Industry, Ohebe Dim; Niger Gas and Niger Steel.

Today, coal has been abandoned while Oji River Power Station has gone moribund, throwing our region into darkness like other parts of the country.

All these industries that formed the industrial base of the South-East region have become moribund, hence gross unemployment.

He said the APC in the South-East had confidence in Buhari to redeem his promise unlike the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government that for the past 16 years reneged on the promise to revamp the coal industry they made at the eve of every election.

I recall that in 2011, President (Goodluck) Jonathan promised to revamp the coal and up to date the 3D seismic study is yet to commence. But, with the promise Gen. Buhari made to us to revamp coal for electricity generation, we can see light at the end of the tunnel. His promise is a bond and commitment, he said.

DSS a disgrace to intelligence gathering APC

The All Progressives Congress says the Department of State Service has been bastardised by the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government to the extent that the agency has become a mockery of intelligence-gathering.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said this during a press conference at the APC Data Centre in Lagos on Sunday.

Mohammed faulted allegations by the spokesperson for the DSS, Mrs. Marilyn Ogar, that the APC was planning to hack into the database of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He said INECs database was not connected to the Internet and as such was impossible to be hacked into.

He said had the DSS done its homework, it would have known this as INEC had always stated this in the past.

He said, The allegation that the APC planned to hack into INECs voters registration database is false. The fact that the DSS made the allegation at all shows that the agency does not understand the concept of hacking, which is pathetic for a primary intelligence agency of its stature.

We are not aware that INEC has made a complaint of anyone or group trying to hack into its system. The DSS findings are baseless as INECS database is a reflection of the registered members with the Permanent Voters Cards. Please note that at the time of the DSS raids, the PVCs had already been printed. Therefore, of what value would it be to hack into the system and input more names?

Simply put, it is not possible for the APC to hack into the INEC database because INECs database is not online, how then are it possible for anyone to hack into it? To prevent virus intrusion, there is no Internet service at the APC Data Centre that was raided. Therefore it is not possible to hack into INECs database.

Mohammed said the APC never registered under-aged people as alleged by the DSS. He said when the security agents raided the office last November, they confiscated empty registration forms along with used application forms.

He said the DSS affixed pictures of children unto the forms in order to discredit the APC having failed to find any evidence.

Oyintiloye hails Osun teachers for ending strike

The All Progressives Congress candidate for Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has lauded the understanding of teachers in the state for calling off their sit-down strike.

He said the understanding shown by the leadership and members of the Nigeria Union of Teacher underscored their patriotism and support for Governor Rauf Aregbesola administration, as well as their commitment for change in Nigeria.

Speaking at the Obokun Local Government Education Board 2015 ecumenical prayer in Ibokun on Friday, Oyintiloye said the basis for the grievances of the teachers was propelled by the paucity of funds occasioned by the slash in federal allocation to the state.

The Osun NUT had suspended the strike the members embarked upon since December 2, 2014, to protest the non-payment of leave bonus, leave grants to secondary school teachers and non-payment of examination and running grants to schools in the state.

The financial challenge we are facing in Osun today is not orchestrated by our government, but by the PDP-led Federal Government, which drastically reduced our allocation so that we will not be able to meet your demands.

If not for the good understanding and your intelligence, you will not agree with us that it is not our government that is out to punish you, but the Federal Government, he said.
