Stop mudslinging, lets discuss issues, APC tells PDP

The All Progressives Congress has challenged the PDP to tell Nigerians how it plans to move from the near zero governance of the past six years of the Jonathan Administration to good and purposeful governance, instead of engaging in perpetual and tiring mudslinging.

We believe that elections should be about issues that will be beneficial to the electorate, not about throwing everything but the kitchen sink at a particular candidate simply because of his soaring acceptability.

Therefore, it is time for the PDP to end the muckraking and tell Nigerians how it plans to tackle the worsening insecurity in the land, the collapsing national currency, with the US dollar now exchanging for 215 Naira, massive unemployment, especially among the youth, decayed infrastructure and the unprecedented corruption under President Jonathans watch, the party said in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

It said the essence of the sustained campaign of calumny against Gen. Buhari by the PDP is to distract the APC from telling Nigerians how it plans to effect the much-needed change from zero to purposeful governance, and also to sweep under the carpet the glaring failures of the Jonathan Administration.

In both instances, the PDP has failed, as Nigerians have refused to be swayed by all the scandal mongering by the PDP, while the APC has remained focused in selling its game-changing manifesto to the citizenry, APC said.

The party said the PDP and President Jonathan should tell Nigerians what happened to the 20-billion-dollar missing oil funds, amid concerns that the money could have vanished into the ruling partys slush funds for electioneering campaign.

Nigerians are also asking: Mr. President, where are the Chibok girls who were abducted nine months ago, and whom you promised to reunite with their families? What happened to the stage-managed truce with Boko Haram and why has no one been punished for deceiving Nigerians? Mr. President, where is the report of the forensic audit you ordered into the missing $20b oil funds? It is now two months since the deadline set by your Finance Minister for the release of that audit report. Will the report go the way of others before it?

Mr. President, you said while campaigning for the 2011 elections that four years is enough for anyone to make significant improvement, and if I cant improve on power within this period, it means I cannot do anything. Why should Nigerians trust you to deliver on your promises this time around, now that the power situation has gone from bad to worse under your watch?

Mr. President, instead of creating jobs for the teeming unemployed youth of Nigeria, your administration has been fleecing and sending them to their early graves, as it happened during the fraudulent Immigration recruitment exercise in March 2014 when many innocent youths got death instead of jobs? When will you move from creating phantom jobs to real jobs? These are the issues that are bothering Nigerians and these are the issues they want answers to, instead of engaging in an unprecedented personality-focused campaign, the party said.

APC said the truth is that the PDP and President Jonathan do not have any answers to those serious issues raised above, hence they have decided to engage in a multi-pronged approach of mudslinging, campaign for election postponement and the instigation of violence to scuttle next months general elections, among others.

APC demands removal of Enugu REC

January 25, 2015 by Ihuoma Chiedozie, Enugu 17 Comments

The All Progressives Congress has called for the immediate removal of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Enugu State, Prof. Eze Onukaogu.

The chairman of the APC in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye, who made the demand at a Nigerian Union of Journalists Correspondents Chapel Forum, said the party had lost confidence in the RECs ability to oversee free and fair polls in the state.

Nwoye, who is also the APC senatorial candidate in Enugu East, pointed to controversies that surrounded Onukaogus tenure in Anambra State, from where he was transferred to Enugu, to justify the demand.

In an ideal society, the Enugu REC, Professor Onukaogu, ought not to be part of any electoral process because of his terrible antecedents during the Anambra State governorship election in 2013.

It is on record that Professor Onukaogu is synonymous with electoral manipulation as demonstrated in Anambra in 2013, where he conducted the worst election in modern political history, Nwoye said.

He insisted that Onukaogu must be removed in order to avert a repeat of what happened in Anambra State.

Allowing the likes of the Enugu REC to remain in the nations electoral system would continue to do more harm than good to the growth of democracy in the country, he added.

Nwoye urged the electorate to vote for APC at both the state and federal levels, stressing that the opposition party has all it takes to correct the blunders of the PDP.

The Enugu APC chairman equally vowed that the party would resist all manner of electoral fraud during the elections.

Kaduna has less than 200 medical doctors -El-Rufai.

The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, said state is far short of medical personnel with the less than 200 doctors in the states employ.

He said an APC government in the state, would recruit more medical personnel to man well-equipped hospitals. if elected as the governor of the state in February.

El-Rufai, a former Federal Capital Territory minister, was responding to an observation by a health worker in the state, who would not want his names in print.

It was during a dinner organised by the El-Rufai Support Group Interactive Dinner, which had in attendance a political economist, Prof Pat Utomi, and other professionals from across the country in Kaduna on Saturday.

The governorship candidate also told his audience that education and health care would be given priorities, noting that as governor, all children in the state will be entitled to free and compulsory education for the first nine years in properly maintained schools and with qualified teachers.

He stated that the state was second most indebted in the country, with a huge wage bill and very low level of internally generated revenue.

According to el-Rufai, despite the states reliance on federal allocations and the poor level of governance, the state has suffered.

There are less than 200 doctors in the entire state, indicating a shortage of medical personnel. An APC government will recruit more health care personnel into hospitals that will have better equipment and medicines, El-Rufai said.

On reviving the collapse textile firms in the state, El-Rufai said regular electricity, forward integration into garmentting and the cooperation of the Federal Government were needed to bring back the industries to life.

He therefore urged the audience to vote Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, as president so that a clear-headed Federal Government can work with the state to achieve the revival of the industry.
