APC warns clerics against circulating inciting statements

The All Progressives Congress has warned religious leaders across Nigeria to stop using religion as a tool to divide the people, especially in the name of politics.

In a statement in Jos on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the warning had become necessary following the false messages that were purportedly circulated claiming that adherents of a certain religion were being killed in a part of the country and their houses of worship burnt on Saturday, when nothing of such happened.

After receiving the text message, we investigated and discovered that nothing of such happened today, Saturday, January 17, 2015, it said

APC described as liars from hell and agents of evil those who peddled such incendiary messages, reasoning that the purveyors of such false alarm are capable of pitting adherents of the countrys two main religions against themselves and setting the country on fire.

The party challenged the security agencies to investigate, arrest and prosecute those who were behind these serpentine messages, instead of chasing shadows and turning themselves into tools of partisanship in the hands of unscrupulous and shameless politicians.

The party added, Those who will use religion to divide the citizens for political reasons are not men of God, whether they are Christians or Muslims. They are agents of darkness and posterity will not be kind to them.

APC said the same people had resorted to circulating, via SMS and e-mail, a fake list of the National Executive Committee of the APC to support their satanic claim that the party wass an Islamic Party.

Nigeria soldiers fighting Boko Haram demoralised Buhari

January 17, 2015 by Ihuoma Chiedozie and Daniel Gbabo 6 Comments

Maj-Gen. Mohammadu Buhari

The All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has said that soldiers engaged in the campaign against the Boko Haram insurgents were demoralised because they were not adequately equipped for combat.

Buhari spoke on Friday at a campaign rally at the Ibrahim Babangida Square in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

He wondered how demoralised and poorly equipped soldiers would be expected to be patriotic in the face of hostile fire.

Buhari gave the assurance that he would lift the morale of the troops.

The APC presidential candidate said, The morale of our military and police and other security agencies is very low otherwise how can our soldiers go and give interviews to foreign press that they cannot fight Boko Haram because they have no weapons?

Trillions have been budgeted for security yet the insurgents are chasing our soldiers across the desert.

Our soldiers are not equipped yet they are told to be patriotic.

The presidential candidate also expressed concerns over the level of unemployment and corruption in the country.

The All Progressives Congress has congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan for being courageous to visit Maiduguri to encourage the soldiers fighting the Boko Haram insurgency.

The party said the President has more trips to make to Chibok, Buni Yadi and Potiskum, among others.

This was contained in a statement issued in Makurdi on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed.

According to the party, the President should follow up his visit to the epicentre of the Boko Haram battle with visits to the parents of the 219 abducted Chibok girls as well as the families of the boys who were killed at the Federal Government College in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, last year.

This, the APC said, was required to enable the President refute reports that his Thursdays visit to Maiduguri was politically motivated with a view to laying foundation for his planned campaign to Maiduguri on January 21, 2015.

The statement read, We have always said the President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces should never be afraid to visit anywhere in the country.

We have always said the President should not just be the Commander-in-Chief but also the Consoler-in-Chief. We are glad that the President has finally agreed with us.

But it is necessary to remind the President that he must not play politics with human lives, and that he must stop putting Jonathan first, Jonathan second and Jonathan third, at the expense of the nation.

The APC, however, asked the President to address the issue of the low morale of the soldiers fighting the insurgency and their lack of necessary equipment.
