APC blasts Amaechis critics over funding

The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has taken a swipe at the critics of the State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, who accused him of funding the party at the national level.

The state chapter of APC described the claim as lacking in foundation and a figment of the imagination of the governors critics, adding that the allegation was based on mere suspicion as a result of the key role the governor has been playing in the party.

State Chairman of the APC, Chief Davies Ikanya, said on Monday in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Chukwuemeka Eze, that the APC remained a political party too big to be funded by the state.

This is a rumour without foundation and a figment of the imagination of those who invented it. It is based on mere suspicion because of the key role that Governor Amaechi has been playing in repositioning APC to salvage Nigeria from the savage grip of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.

As rightly stated by Governor Amaechi on Monday, during the APC Port Harcourt flag-off rally, APC is a very big party to be funded from the purse of the Rivers State Government, Ikanya, said.

Ikanya pointed out that the state did not have the huge sum of money those behind the rumour claimed the governor had spent on the APC at the national level.

Rivers is not the richest state in either the country or the APC, it is not. For example, is there anywhere as rich as Lagos, which is an APC state, and very much committed to the progress of the party?

The truth is that no single state or individual is funding APC; the party is funded by all its committed members, the state party chairman said.

Ikanya stated that much of Rivers money had been taken away by the PDP-controlled Federal Government through declining monthly allocation and the ceding of some of the states oil wells to neighbouring Abia and Bayelsa States.

The state APC chairman, however, congratulated Amaechi for putting smiles on the faces of civil servants in Rivers by paying their December salaries before Christmas, thereby shaming detractors who thought that he would not be able to pay due to the economic emasculation of the state by the PDP-led Federal Government.

Ekiti APC petitions NSA over security crisis

December 29, 2014 by Kamarudeen Ogundele, Ado-Ekiti 6 Comments

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has petitioned the National Security Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), calling his attention to security crisis in the state.

The party alleged that there was a sudden jump in security threats in Ekiti State shortly after Governor Ayodele Fayose was declared winner of the June 21, 2014 governorship election.

In the petition by the State Chairman of APC, Chief Jide Awe, the party noted that even though there were pockets of security breaches in the state during campaigns, the situation had worsened after his inauguration.

APC revealed that it sent copies of the petition to Jonathan, the Inspector General of Police, Director General of DSS, Ekiti State Director of DSS and the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police.

The party alleged a leap in insecurity shortly after Fayose made a special request for redeployment to Ekiti State the policemen that formed the nucleus of a killer squad in Ekiti State between 2003 and 2006 as confirmed by the Presidential Security Panel Report on Political Killings in Ekiti State.

The APCs petition reads in part, We are worried by the antecedents of these police officers when they served Governor Fayose between 2003 and 2006. Our fear is not without basis.

A cursory look at the Report of the Presidential Security Panel Investigation of Killings in Ekiti constituted by President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2005 succinctly leads us to the present fear, as state-sponsored terrorism rears its head again with particular reference to the same officers, who were indicted in that report and who have been recalled by Governor Fayose to his service in Ekiti State.

The party noted in particular that a certain former Chief Security Officer to Fayose, had been recalled to the service of the governor and now serves as his current Aide De Camp.

But the Peoples Democratic Party has described the petition as a calculated attempt by Awe to divert the attention of the government from prosecuting him for the murder case in which he was the chief accuse.

Obasanjos desire for change unites us -APC

The All Progressives Congress has said former President Olusegun Obasanjo, was sympathetic to the cause of the party because of his desire for positive change in 2015. Deputy National Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Lawal Shuaibu said this in an interview with reporters in Abuja, on Sunday. He noted that the former President who is still an active member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, was like most Nigerians; desirous of an end to maladministration and impunity. According to him, while it was true that Obasanjo is not a card carrying member of the APC, his interest in bringing about a change in the way things are done is glaring.

Shuaibu said, We dont have any connection with Obasanjo other than Obasanjo sympathising with anybody that could effect change in this country. He is not a member of our party mind you, he is still a PDP man but for the fact that he is a former democratic President in this country people listen to him. More often than not, some people go to seek for his advice both from PDP, APC and other parties. But he is interested in the type of change we are driving at, so he is to a certain extent sympathetic with the APC.

He noted that there was nothing wrong with the APC receiving members of the PDP who have come to realise their mistakes. The APC chieftain said the party has put in place a machinery to ensure strict adherence to its policies and programmes as contained in its manifesto. He explained that parties which came together to form the APC have all agreed to adhere strictly to the code of conduct as well as ethics enshrined in the founding principles of the new party. Shuaibu also assured Nigerians that the APC will strictly observe the provisions of its constitution and the party manifesto as well as ensure the supremacy of the party. Reacting to the over N21 billion raised by PDP to fund President Jonathans re-election, Shuaibu said his party was not worried. He, however, said that of the APC will be transparent and made public in a manner consistent with its avowed commitment to transparency.

Nigeria: I'll Meet Other Generals to Draft Anti-Terror Plan – Buhari

press release

The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Wednesday said that though Nigeria is a rich nation, its people are extremely poor due to bad governance.

He also promised to involve serving and retired military generals to devise an effective strategy to crush insurgency in the country, if elected as President in 2015.

Buhari, in his Christmas goodwill message signed by the Director of Communications, Buhari Campaign Organisation, Mr. Dele Alake, expressed displeasure at the security challenges in the country and the poor state of Nigerian roads.

He said his administration would focus on how best to "make the condition of living of the common man the index for the assessment of our policies and not the amount of billionaires our administration would have made."

Buhari felicitated with Christians in the country as they celebrated Christmas, assuring Nigerians that they would have better reasons to celebrate the festival if he is elected in 2015.

He said, "On my part, I intend to initiate consultations with serving generals and those who have served our country and distinguished themselves on the battlefield across the world to work out an alternative and effective strategy to crush this insurgency within the shortest possible time if elected president on February 14, 2015.

"I have said that I live the life of a pensioner. I share the burden and anxiety of majority of our poor, powerless people. I have offered myself on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, the party of change, because I desire to give back to a country that clothed, fed and trained me to be what I am today. Our people are poor. But our country is rich."

The former Head of State, who berated the President Goodluck Jonathan administration over rising poverty in the country, said, "In a nation where a few individuals could raise N21bn because they wanted to make their friend President, millions of citizens, who truly own the resources being accumulated by a few, are left to suffer in sorrow, tears and blood.

Buhari said while many Nigerians travelling towards the eastern part of the country would encounter "the failed promises of the Second Niger Bridge;" those travelling through the South-West would "have to bear the gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway."
