Ondo APC holds peaceful primaries

The All Progressives Congress House of Assembly primaries held in the 26 constituencies in Ondo State in peaceful atmosphere.

Security operatives patrolled the different places where delegates chose their candidates to ensure there was no breakdown of law and order.

Accreditation started as early as 8am in most of the constituencies, while winners were announced as soon as the delegates completed voting.

It was however gathered there were some disagreements in some constituencies regarding the list of delegates presented.

Chairman of the party in the state, Isaac Kekemeke said although there were contentions in two constituencies, the primaries were largely peaceful.

He said, You cannot rule out some disagreements when you are holding primaries in 26 constituencies.

But if the disagreement is just recorded in one or two constituencies, then that is about 90 per cent success.

He added that winners were announced at the venues and certificates of return issued to them at the same time.

APC begins screening of five presidential aspirants

National Chairman, All Progressives Congress, John Odigie Oyegun

The All Progressives Congress on Tuesday commenced the screening of its five presidential aspirants.

Those to be screened are the Publisher of The Leadership newspaper, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah; Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Nda-Isaiah was the first to appear before the Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu-led eight member committee at the partys national headquarters in Abuja.

Addressing reporters before the commencement of the exercise, Onu said the committee would not spare any effort in ensuring that only aspirants considered fit and proper would be presented during the forthcoming convention.

He said that each of the aspirants would be required to sign an undertaking to abide by the partys guidelines and to support the eventual winner of the ticket.

Onu said, In screening our aspirants, we will take into consideration the constitution of our party, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Electoral Act 2010. We would be doing something that is novel in our country because we want to really effect change.

We will attach a lot of importance to the manifesto of the party; we will like to know how ready our aspirants are to attend to the urgent needs of the nation in the areas of security, the economy, job creation, foreign policy and corruption.

He also said successful aspirants would be presented with their certificates of clearance to contest the primaries at the end of the exercise on Wednesday (today).

At the end of his screening, Nda- Isaiah expressed confidence about his chances. He described the exercise as the biggest job interview in the nation.

APC alleges second raid of partys data centre

The All Progressives Congress has described as the height of lawlessness and an orchestrated provocation the second raid that was carried out on the partys data centre in Ikeja, Lagos, by the Department of State Security on Monday night.

It said the agency, which it described as out of control should be put in check.

The party said, The raid by over 40 armed DSS officers, despite a court order restraining the service from such action, shows that the DSS considers itself to be above the laws of the land, and this is totally condemnable, the party said in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

Even under a PDP government that has nothing but contempt for constitutional order, the lack of respect for a court order by an institution of state, like the DSS, has plumbed the depth of anomie, and shows that our democracy is in clear and present danger from anarchists.

APC alleged that the armed DSS officers, who came with trucks, shoved the security personnel at the building aside and broke into the storage facility from where they carted away over 30 bags filled with the APC membership registration forms.

The party said the raid came on the same day it challenged the DSS to make public its findings after the first raid that was widely condemned within and outside Nigeria, and described as the worst political scandal in the nations history.

APC added, It is sensible to conclude that the DSS second raid was its own crude reaction to the challenge we posed to it. Apparently yet to find any evidence of PVC cloning as alleged by the DSS, it is now quite desperate to manufacture evidence to justify its raids. Or how else does one explain the claim by the service that its findings will shock Nigerians, even at a time it is still in search of evidence? Is this how self-respecting intelligence agencies conduct their operations?

It is curious that an institution of state will continue to act like an enforcement arm of the ruling party by constantly harassing the opposition. It is strange that an organisation that should be deploying its best staff to gather useful intelligence that can help the nation to win the anti-terrorism war is instead engaging in terrorising the opposition.

It is time to caution the DSS and to remind those at the helms of affairs that while they may be having a free rein today, they will one day rue their actions at this critical time in our nations history, it said.

Jonathan: APC Reps disown impeachment list

The All Progressives Congress Caucus at the House of Representatives on Tuesday disowned a list purported to be the names of lawmakers pushing to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan.

It described the list as fake and being circulated by some online publicists.

The caucus disowned the list barely 72 hours after the Peoples Democratic Party Caucus also called the list a scam.

House Minority Leader and Leader of the APC caucus, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, claimed in a statement in Abuja that none of his members was a party to the fake impeachment list.

By implication, both the majority PDP and the main opposition APC have disowned the list.

The development leaves the question on the whereabouts of the authentic impeachment list or whether there is any list in existence unanswered.

Gbajabiamila merely said that the authentic list would be published in due course.

The general public is hereby advised to disregard a fake impeachment list published by some online publicists for obvious sinister intentions, part of his statement read.

APC says faulty intelligence stifles terror war

The All Progressives Congress has said faulty intelligence, which has so far stifled the fight against Boko Haram, was the same which led to the raid of the partys data centre in Lagos.

The APC also challenged the Department of State Service to tell the Nigerian public what it found after invading its data centre in Lagos.

This was contained in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Abuja, on Monday.

According to the party, Nigerians deserve to know the outcome of investigations into the cooked-up allegation of PVC cloning that forced the DSS to unlawfully invade the partys offices in Lagos over a week ago.

The party said, It is this type of faulty intelligence that has been stifling the efforts to deconstruct Boko Haram and facilitate the battle to end the insurgency that is daily killing and maiming innocent Nigerians.

It also said the DSS should apologise to Nigerians for acting on the basis of faulty intelligence.

The party warned that any further delay in telling Nigerians the outcome of the investigations after almost 10 days could mean that the DSS was trying to manufacture evidence to support its faulty intelligence.

APC said, Without carrying out any investigation and with no shred of evidence, the DSS gleefully announced to the world that they stormed our data centre because they got information that Permanent Voter Cards were being cloned there.

On the basis of this uncorroborated announcement, the PDP categorically accused the APC of cloning PVCs. It is now over a week since the DSS carted away materials and computer servers after ransacking our offices for over two hours. The agencys experts must have analysed the information in the materials and on the servers.

The party demanded that the security agency should immediately announce its findings to the world.
