The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State and the Grassroots Development Initiative have disagreed on Wednesdays resignation of the Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike and his move to contest the 2015 governorship election.

While the state APC sees Wikes resignation and governorship ambition as a political suicide, the GDI maintained that his resignation was an answer to calls that he (Wike) should quit the Federal Executive Council and contest the governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.

State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Chris Fynebone, said in an interview with our correspondent that Wike would suffer the worst defeat by any governorship candidate should he (Wike) contest the 2015 election.

Finebone cautioned that the political calculation in the state did not support anybody from Ikwerre to succeed the current Governor of the state, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, who hails from the same area with Wike.

He said, I am speaking as an Ijaw person now. We learnt that Wike has resigned to contest the 2015 governorship election. It is a political suicide because he will suffer the biggest defeat any governorship candidate has ever suffered.

His ambition will estrange the Ijaw people from the Ikwerre people and this means he (Wike) will get less than five percent of the votes from the Ijaw people.

The very moment, he (Wike) picks the ticket to contest the governorship election, voting based on party lines or affiliation will melt away.

But the Secretary-General of GDI, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, described Wikes resignation and governorship ambition as a welcome development, adding that the former minister has what it takes to win the forthcoming poll.

Nwanosike, who spoke in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Wednesday, explained that the former minister would leave no stone unturned to clinch the sole ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party.

He boasted that the grand patron of GDI would not only win the PDP primary election, Wike would also win the general election.

A leader of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Chief Ayo Akande, has asked the Federal Government to adopt the child education policy of the Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, in primary and secondary schools across the country.

A statement on Tuesday quoted Akande as saying this in Ogba, Lagos, at the thanksgiving prayer organised to celebrate the re-election of Aregbesola.

Aregbesola of the APC won a re-election on August 9, 2014, defeating the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Iyiola Omisore, and others.

Akande said the feeding of pupils in all the public schools in Osun State was a unique education policy meant not only to give the pupils a sense of belonging but to also promote learning and understanding.

He said, The child education policy is a social responsibility and commitment that provides a solid foundation for the total development of the child and growth of the nation.

In view of its novelty and contribution to the development of education, the Aregbesole model should be adopted by the Federal Government in all primary and post-primary schools in the country.

The party chieftain said the provision of a good learning environment was not limited to physical structures in public schools.

The mental stability of the pupils to assimilate what they are being taught by their teachers is equally important, hence the feeding policy of the Aregbesolas administration to give the mental stability to pupils in Osun public schools should be commended and emulated, he said.

Akande, who said a hungry man was an angry man, noted that it would be difficult for a pupil to assimilate what the teacher teaches if such pupil was hungry.

A former Head of State and All Progressives Congress presidential aspirant, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), said on Tuesday that the Peoples Democratic Party had messed up the country.

He identified the inability of managing the nations resources as one of the problems affecting Nigeria, adding that he was coming to bring about positive and progressive change.

Buhari spoke in Port Harcourt when he paid a courtesy visit to the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, ahead of his declaration for the presidency in Abuja onWednesday.

The former head of state explained that he was disturbed by the frosty relationship between Rivers and the centre, even as he hailed the courage of the state governor.

He said, The PDP has messed itself up, it has messed the country up. Nigerians know we have a good opportunity to change the situation. What happened in Ekiti and Osun is a clear indication. It is either we totally mobilise and get the election results and form the government or we go under for good.

I understand a Republicans viewpoint, I really do. I dont dislike them as much as I used to. When I was younger and more nave I used to just say, F you guys. But these days I have more empathy for people with money. I have money now, so I understand wanting to keep your money, the money you worked hard for and also want to have a healthy environment for your kids.

Somebody once said to me, Im a Democrat socially, Im a Republican fiscally. For me, I kind of am almost like that when it comes to politics because I think Obamas got it all wrong. The people that hes taxing are absolutely the hardest-working people and a lot of these people are the people that cant really afford the taxes that hes asking. The super-rich can afford to pay more. It doesnt really put much of a dent in their pocket, but hes taxing people that are really middle-class. I think it starts at $250,000; thats not a lot of money in California. And what is the first thing he does when he gets in office? Pays the banks off. So he can say what he wants. I thought he was a mediocre president

Would I have ever thought that? No, Ill tell you what, my thought process was I am going to try and buy a house. I asked my friend, Bill, who went to college, How much do houses go for? And he said, You can get a down payment on a house for like $20,000. And I thought, I dont know how Im ever gonna get $20,000. Then it was explained you can go to a bank for a loan.

A national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has urged Nigerians to emulate the people of Osun State, who voted against the Peoples Democratic Party during theAugust 9 governorship poll in the state.

Buhari said this in Osogbo on Monday during a courtesy visit to Governor Rauf Aregbesola at the Government House.

The former Head of State said the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states should be an eye opener for Nigerians ahead of the 2015 elections.

Buhari, while congratulating Aregbesola said his re-election was a triumph of democracy and the wishes of the majority of the people.

According to him, the people of the state know what is good for them by resisting the opposition and voting for Aregbesola massively.

The former Head of State said he was in the state to invite the governor to his formal declaration for the presidential race.

He said, Part of why we are here is to congratulate you on your credible re-election and personal leadership qualities.

Ekiti and Osun gave us the latest interpretation of what is ahead of us in 2015 and all Nigerians must be totally aware that it is not going to be very easy in the next five months.

For the next five months, we are on the road again and we are here to ask for your understanding and support. Nigerians want change and they have to prepare and be ready to do exactly what Osun people has done, thats the only way out.

Aregbesola, while responding, thanked the retired general for his visit.
