Mimikos defection to PDP, blessing for APC Boroffice

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Science and Technology, Prof. Robert Boroffice, has described the defection of Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State from the Labour Party to the Peoples Democratic Party as a big blessing for the All Progressives Congress in the state.

Boroffice, who is representing the Ondo North Senatorial District at the upper chamber, stated this in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday.

He explained that many aggrieved members of the LP and the PDP in the state, who were not happy with the governors action, had started defecting to the APC.

Boroffice said, The defection of Governor Olusegun Mimiko to the PDP is the best thing that could happen politically to the APC in Ondo State. Before Mimiko finally made his intention known to Nigerians that he was going to join the PDP, his heart had always been with the PDP.

Many of the people in the Labour Party belong to the progressives camp. They didnt join the LP because of Mimiko; they joined the LP because the party subscribes to progressive ideology.

Now that Mimiko had gone back to the PDP, many people are also defecting from the LP to join their kits and kins in the APC being a truly progressive party. We are in the harvest time in Ondo State.

We are so excited, we are so happy. We can see the finger of God in all these things. Since Mimiko defected to the PDP, there is hardly any week that we are not harvesting, at least, 500 people from both the LP and the PDP, who are willingly joining the real progressives party, the APC.

The senator said the fact that some members of the PDP protested last week in Akure, against the defection of Mimiko to their party showed that the party was already in crisis.

He said, They know that he (Mimiko) may want to take over the party structure as the sitting governor.

So, some of them went to court. They know quite well that Mimiko would want to be in control of the party structure in the state.

APC has no intention to frustrate Fayoses inauguration Ojudu

The member representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, on Wednesday described as untrue and baseless, allegations by some members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state that the All Progressives Congress was planning to frustrate the inauguration of the Governor Elect, Mr. Ayo Fayose, on October 16.

Ojudu, who spoke with our correspondent in Abuja, denied the alleged move by the APC to use the crisis between Fayose and the judiciary in the state to stop the swearing-in of the governor-elect.

He said, It is not true that the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State is plotting to frustrate the inauguration of Fayose on October 16. What APC had done is to go to the tribunal to challenge the election of Fayose and the court was about to sit when Fayose invaded the court with his thugs and disrupted it.

The senator explained that invasion of the court by Fayoses men, informed the relocation of the tribunal outside the state so that members can sit in a separate location.

He also added that the E-11 group had instituted its case against Fayose before the governorship election and that it was the annual court vacation that stalled the hearing of the suit before the poll.

He said, The E-11 had gone to court since May 23 to challenge the qualification of Fayose to contest the election. But there was a strike, and the court later went on vacation, and the suit suffered some setback, so they are just hearing it now.

Why is the PDP in Ekiti blaming its misfortune on other people? It is taken that when anybody is aggrieved, the place to resolve it is the court and not through self help. The E-11 went to court, and the APC went to court.

It is the Fayoses group that went to court to beat up judges and disrupt court proceedings. Why are they now claiming to be the victim.

Presidential primariesll not disintegrate APC Saraki

A chief of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Bukola Saraki, hassaid that APC will not disintegrate because of its presidentialprimaries.

He stated that the contestants had given assurance that they wouldabide by the outcome of the primaries and would work for the overallinterest of the party.

In an interview with journalists in Ilorin on Monday, he also said itwas a mere propaganda that APC would disintegrate after itsprimaries. He said such propaganda would not materialise.

According to him, the presidential primaries would rather unify andstrengthen the party.

Saraki said, This is the propaganda from the opposition. I want toassure Nigerians that the fact we are going to have the primariesshould not in any way disintegrate the party. I believe that even suchprimaries will help to unify the party. We saw it during the era ofSocial Democratic Party; after the primaries, the party did notdisintegrate, rather it made the party stronger.

Even in the early days of the Peoples Democratic Party, ChiefOlusegun Obasanjo and Dr. Alex Ekwueme had primaries and the party didnot disintegrate. I can open up and tell you that I have had theopportunity to sit with General Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji AbubakarAtiku and Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso. There are assurances from them that whichever way the primary goes, they will support whoever emerges asthe candidate.

When we started to merge with the legacy parties, the opposition saidthe party will disintegrate with the merger. After that they said thatby the time we go for national convention the party woulddisintegrate, yet none happened.

The party will not disintegrate because we are all making sacrificesevery day. It is not easy to come together to take on a governmentwith this level of impunity. We are all doing this because we trulybelieve that this is the best way for Nigeria. I have utmostconfidence that whoever emerges as the presidential flag bearer forAPC, we will rally round the person.

Saraki who is Chairman, Senate Committee on Ecology and Environment, said he would soon inform Nigerians whether he would contest for the2015 presidential election or not.

He urged all Nigerians to rise above selfish ambitions and makenecessary sacrifices that would uplift the country.
