The All Progressives Congress has decried what it described as the melodramatic intervention of First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, in the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State about three weeks ago.

The party said her conduct had been distracting, counter-productive and calibrated to scapegoat others with the sole intention of exculpating her husband rather than finding the girls. Interim National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said this in a statement in Lagos on Tuesday.

According to the party, there is nothing wrong in the First Lady, as a woman and the mother of the nation, playing a role in resolving the unfortunate abduction of the girls.

The party noted that that role must be within the realms of social activism, not in policy making or conduct of state affairs.

It warned that the melodrama, highlighted by the shedding of made-for-television crocodile tears, could not and would not bring the girls back safely to their parents. What will bring them back is a purposeful and sustained effort by the Federal Government, which has hitherto been tentative and lethargic. Therefore, enough of the distracting, absurd and overbearing show that the First Lady has put up in the past few days, APC said. The spokesman for the First Lady, Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, said his principals intervention was simply a demonstration of her passion for Nigerian children.

Adewuyi said, They are entitled to their own opinion. Every right thinking Nigerian would know that the general intervention was out of her passion for the children of Nigeria.

Anybody can say whatever he or she wants to say. But those who have the love of the country at heart would definitely know that it is her passion to see that these children are rescued.

A former Minister of Communication and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has said Nigeria is fast becoming a laughing stock among other nations in the world because of the state of insecurity in the country.

Ogbeh therefore asked President Goodluck Jonathan to take drastic actions in the fight against the Boko Haram sect, noting that the country was already in grave danger.

The former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, who spoke with journalists in Abuja on Monday night, wondered why the Federal Government and the military could deploy soldiers to man streets without adequate equipment.

He said a situation where invaders would arrive and kill 100 in Katsina, 215 in Birnin Kebbi, kill in Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa states without being challenged was not acceptable.

He alleged that some of the the mercenaries were hired from neighbouring counties, saying that when they were caught, it was realised that they were of Arabian nationalities.

He said, Nigeria is fast becoming a laughing stock in the world. I think it is reaching a state where not only foreigners but Nigerians will begin to lose confidence in their country.

Again what of our neighbours, how much respect does Cameroon, Niger or Chad have for Nigeria? And what level of diplomacy are we deploying to talk to these people to make sure that bandits dont take refuge in their territory? If they had respect for Nigeria they wont try it.

I remember 1983 when some Chadian troublemakers invaded Nigeria and killed some soldiers, Gen. Buhari pursued them on the orders of President Shehu Shagari until the United States started panicking that we were implementing a Gaddafi agenda.

Recently I was discoursing with Buhari on this issue and he said he wanted to give them a bloody nose because he wanted to show them that they had no business entering Nigeria to cause trouble.

So when are we going to get tough. We are not a small country. And why should small neighbors do this to us or pretend not to know what is going on? When are we going to take tough measures against them?

Former Ekiti State Governor, Chief Segun Oni has defected to the All Progressives Congress.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Oni of the Peoples Democratic Party was removed as governor of Ekiti State by the Court of Appeal in 2011.

He later became the PDP Deputy National Chairman, South West, before joining Abubakar Baraje faction of the party.

Oni, who announced the defection on Monday at Ifaki-Ekiti, said he dumped the PDP to help current the Governor, Kayode Fayemi to win a second term.

According to him, Fayemi is the best option for the state in the June 21 governorship election.

Today, we are erecting a new platform to build the future of Ekiti, the future is paramount in our hearts and what our children will say about us.

Though, we might have had a past that was rough together, we must think of who can take the right decisions for us to build a prosperous future for Ekiti.

I am not talking of perfection here but something that is better and who can give us a better tomorrow.

Gov. Fayemi who was present at the occasion, described Onis defection as a home coming.

He assured the former governor that he would be accorded all the rights and privileges in his new party.
