"We're very, very united on repeal, not so much on replace, and so I think the real problem is adding replacement to the repeal bill," he said. "Ithink the repeal bill probably wont pass unless we take replacement off of it."

Paul, who has been an outspoken critic of the healthcare proposal rollout, tweeted Tuesday morning that the House GOP plan wouldn't pass because it is too similar to the existing healthcare law.

"The House leadership plan is Obamacare Lite. It will not pass. Conservatives are not going to take it, Paul tweeted.

Paul and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio)saidTuesday they plan to introduce their own ObamaCare repeal plan. They said they will introduce a clean bill to repeal ObamaCare, as Congress did in 2015.

Conservatives lawmakers argue that they should vote on repeal as a separate measure from replacement, and then should debate how to replace former President Obama's signature healthcare legislation.

The lawmakers are opposed to several parts of the House GOP leadership's proposal, called the American Health Care Act, including a refundable tax credit to help people buy insurance that they dub a "new entitlement."

The Trump administration on Tuesday formally backed the House GOP's plan, with Trump himself meeting with House lawmakers at the White House and urging support for the proposal.

Rand Paul: White House cajoling, wooing conservative health care … – Washington Times

Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky said Wednesday the White House is in the midst of a charm offensive to try to cajole wary conservatives who have criticized the House GOPs health care plan.

I think the White House, the administration, and the president understand that theres enough conservatives that they cant pass Obamacare lite, Mr. Paul said on MSNBCs Morning Joe.

Thats why this week, whats going on behind the scenes is a charm offensive, he said.

Every conservative thats come out publicly opposed to this has been called by the White House and is being cajoled and wooed by the White House to give in, Mr. Paul said.

If we stick together, we will have a force and a negotiation, and we will talk about clean repeal versus replacement, he said. I dont think they have the numbers to pass this at this point.

Mr. Trump had indicated Tuesday he was confident Mr. Paul would come along.

I feel sure that my friend @RandPaul will come along with the new and great health care program because he knows Obamacare is a disaster! the president tweeted Tuesday evening.

Mr. Paul and other conservatives say the House GOP plan unveiled Monday doesnt go far enough in completely repealing Obamacare. Proponents of the House plan say its one step in a multipart process to ultimately unwind the law.

Rand Paul Responds to Trump Singling Him Out on Health Care: ‘I Feel Emboldened’ – Mediaite

Senator Rand Paul was one of the most vocal Republicans expressing concerns about the House GOPs healthcare alternative even before it was released this week. As far as hes concerned, the replacement plan is Obamacare Lite and dead on arrival in the Senate.

Last night, President Trump got wind of Pauls comments and tweeted the following:

Paul said on MSNBCs Morning Joe today that the White House is going on a charm offensive to try and win over skeptical conservatives, but he specifically responded to the presidents tweet in an interview with Politico:

I dont feel isolated by this. I actually feel emboldened, Paul, who clashed at times with Trump during the Republican presidential primary last year, said of his reaction to the presidents attention.

Paul read Trumps tweet as a signal that the White House is open to negotiation and that they realize that we have the numbers to stop the Obamacare-lite bill They are concerned because every conservative I know has been called to the White House to talk about Obamacare.

Paul is one of a growing number of Republicans voicing concerns that the American Health Care Act is not an adequate replacement to Obamacare.

Sen. Rand Paul Refuses to Buckle to WH ‘Charm Offensive’ – Newsmax

Republican Sen. Rand Paul stuck to his opposition to the House GOP plan on replacing Obamacare despite prodding from President Donald Trump, telling MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that "I don't think they have the numbers to pass this at this point."

After Paul voiced his opposition to the plan on Tuesday, Trump sent out a tweet encouraging him to get on board with the House Republican proposal.

But Paul did not appear to be buckling under what he called the president's "charm offensive," saying that "I think the White House, the administration, and the president understand that there's enough conservatives that they can't pass 'Obamacare lite.' That's why this week, what's going on behind the scenes is a charm offensive. Every conservative that's come out publicly opposed to this has been called by the White House and is being cajoled and wooed by the White House to give in."

Paul appeared confident that "if conservatives stick together, we will have a force and a negotiation, and we will talk about clean repeal versus replacement."

The senator reiterated that because Republicans are in agreement on repeal but not replacement, "that's why we should vote on them separately."

Paul said in an interview with Politico that is the message he reiterated to Trump when he spoke with him on the hone about the plan.

Although Republican leaders have privately been upset at Paul's attempt to split the party on the issue, the senator said about the attention he's received from the president that "I don't feel isolated by this. I actually feel emboldened."
