Marco Rubio Sits Down With ABC On Monday

Republican Sen. Marco Rubio will sit down for an exclusive interview with ABC News Chief Anchor and "This Week" host, George Stephanopoulos, on Monday -- just a few hours before the Florida senator will announce whether he will run for president in 2016.

The interview will take place in Miami.

Rubio, 43, has been considering a presidential bid and he has indicated he will reveal his decision tomorrow.

"In just three days in Miami, I will announce whether I will run for president, for re-election to the Senate, or for commissioner of the National Football League," he joked at the National Rifle Association Convention in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday.

Born in Miami, Rubio, a Cuban-American, has invited supporters to an evening event at the Freedom Tower, an historic site in downtown Miami which holds symbolic importance for generations of Cubans.

Described as the "Ellis Island of the South," the tower once housed the Cuban Assistance Center, servicing thousands of Cuban refugees from 1962 to 1974.

Rubios parents emigrated from Cuba to the United States in the 1950s. From 2007 to 2009, Rubio served as the first ever Cuban-American Speaker of the House in the Florida state legislature.

Rubios ascent from state politics to the Senate came in 2010. Once considered a long-shot candidate, Rubio unexpectedly beat Floridas incumbent Gov. Charlie Crist, who switched his party affiliation from Republican to independent during the race.

In the Senate, Rubio has served on the Foreign Relations Committee, becoming a vocal critic of President Obamas decision to restore diplomatic relations with Cuba.

Rubio was also instrumental in crafting an immigration reform plan with the so-called "Gang of 8." But he has faced criticism from many Republicans for his involvement in the legislation.

Republican Ehrlich derides Democrat attacks

CONCORD - Former Maryland Gov. Bob Ehrlich spoke at the Snow Shoe Club Saturday, taking aim at Democrats for what he called their "cultural attack on something we used to celebrate in this country: success."

The Republican warned that the other side has been "making progress" since the past two presidential elections.

"Class warfare is winning. Progressivism is winning. Legislative pre-emption is winning. Lack of federalism is winning. Dependence is winning. Political correctness is winning," he said.

But he also took Republicans to task for their own missteps. "I watched 3 million Republicans not show up for Mitt Romney, and I watched Barack Obama win twice," he said. "Because sometimes we can't get our act together."

Ehrlich talked about his own "blue collar" roots and how the opportunity to attend an elite private prep school "changed my life in every way possible."

He got a football scholarship to Princeton, went on to law school and served in the Maryland state assembly and then the U.S. Congress before becoming governor in 2002.

This was his fifth trip to New Hampshire and he has another half-dozen scheduled, he said. But he hasn't yet decided whether to join the growing Republican field for the first-in-the-nation primary. He knows he's an underdog, he said.

"It's all about trying to figure out whether there's a space for me and my ideas and my sort of blue-collar Republicanism in this party, in this primary, in this cycle in New Hampshire."

Ehrlich answered questions from the audience of about two dozen people about military base closings, free trade and Common Core education standards.

Later, Bob Heghman of Wolfeboro said he was "very impressed" with the former governor. "He's a level-headed guy," he said. "I could see myself working for him and supporting him."

Rubio Looks To Find His Opening In The 2016 Republican Field

WASHINGTON (AP) If Marco Rubio launches his presidential campaign as expected Monday, the first-term Republican senator from Florida may have to answer this simple question. Why now?

The 43-year-old Rubio, a rising star on Capitol Hill, could wait four more years, even eight, and still be a relatively young candidate.

Some party officials want him run for governor or try to hold his Senate seat, which could be crucial to continued GOP control of the chamber. By training his sights on the White House, Rubio also sets up a head-to-head competition with Jeb Bush, a mentor with whom he has many overlapping supporters.

But the window to run for president can close as quickly as it opens.

Then-Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois seized an opportunity in 2008 and won. Donors clamored for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to run in 2012, but he declined and now heads into the 2016 campaign in a decidedly weaker position.

Theres no telling that (Rubios) opportunity will be better four or eight years from now, said Fergus Cullen, the former New Hampshire Republican chairman who is yet to throw his support behind a candidate.

Rubios advisers know all about the fickle preferences of the electorate. Rubio was a beneficiary of the 2010 tea party wave that swept dozens of conservative lawmakers into Congress just two years after Obama and Democrats won big.

Rubio was expected to announce his candidacy Monday in his hometown of Miami, which would put him in the shadow of Democrat Hillary Rodham Clintons highly anticipated announcement Sunday of a second White House run.

But Rubios team sees an opportunity to answer the why now question and argue the countrys pressing problems require a new generation of leaders, not a return to the 1990s.
