JEFFERSON CITY On Monday, The Missouri House Republican Campaign Committee gave a candidate recently in the news for racy Facebook posts more than $27,000.
That candidate is 28-year-old Joe Corica. Corica, a Republican, is running for the 70th District House seat against incumbent Rep. Bill Otto, D-Maryland Heights, in November. Corica ran unopposed in the August primary.
Prior to the committee's $27,302 donation, Corica, a Marine Corps veteran, only had raised $13,433 in his campaign.
Corica recently made headlines for a series of Facebook posts dating back to 2012 that some might find offensive. In one, he talks of Facebook stalking a woman he spoke to on the phone for his job. In another, he states that abortion is about"eugenics and population control, never about women's health." Still others were hateful to members of the gay community.
Corica has since deleted his personal Facebook, but Progress Missouri grabbed screenshots of the posts before he deleted it.
Corica has received small donations from Senate President Pro Tem Tom Dempsey, R-St. Charles, Rep. Robert Cornejo, R-St. Peters as well as Republican Senate candidate Jack Spooner and Bob Onder, who won the Republican nomination for the 2nd District Senate seat.
A screenshot of a list of attendees at a meet and greet with Corica in August names Speaker in waiting John Diehl, R-Town and Country, a special guest. At this time, it does not appear Diehl has given him money.
