ChatGPT, Bing, Bard, Or Claude: Which AI Chatbot Generates The … – Search Engine Journal

With the rapid onset of generative AI chatbots, you may wonder which is best for your needs.

With the recent release of Google Bard, we decided to test it against ChatGPT, Bing, and Claude to see responses for prompts on search engine optimization, website coding, content generation, productivity tools, news, and social media.

Specifically, we used the following versions of each AI chatbot for the upcoming examples.

Now, lets look at some prompts marketers might use and the responses they could receive from each of these chatbots to see which one is best.

The first prompt is a simple question what is SEO? You might receive the following responses from ChatGPT, Bing (More Balanced), Bard, and Claude+.

ChatGPT purely defined SEO search engine optimization followed by its purpose and key aspects of the process. No sources were provided, as it uses training data from articles, blog posts, books, and websites from September 2021 or earlier.

Bing AI chat provided a shorter answer with several sources and three additional prompt suggestions to learn more about SEO.

Google Bard gave us three answers to choose from using the drafts dropdown. The first answer did not provide sources. The second (shown below) and third answers were based on different sources.

Claude+ offered a detailed answer with what appeared to be internal links.

When you click on one of the links, it prompts Claude to give you another answer.

Next, we asked how to get high-quality backlinks for a website.

ChatGPT listed link-building techniques that were heavily promoted in 2021.

Bing AI offered five suggestions with sources, such as using tools like Ahrefs and Semrush to research competitors backlinks.

Google Bard gave three distinct answers to the question but no sources. Included in Bards suggestions were blog commenting, forum posts, and directory submissions, as shown in this third draft.

Claude+ offered many suggestions, including private blog networks and Yahoo Answers, which no longer exist.

Can generative AI chatbots code a simple website?

ChatGPT provided HTML and CSS that could be copied and pasted.

Using W3Schools TryIt Editor, we proved the code does create a functional webpage.

Bing AI also provided code, but only the HTML portion.

The result was less impressive than ChatGPTs version, but it still works.

Google Bard gave three different versions of its one-page website code to choose from, each of which is HTML only, like Bings. The first option is shown below.

All three worked in the TryIt Editor.

Claude+ offered HTML and CSS in its response, but the format wasnt as clean as ChatGPT, Bing, or Bard.

The result also referenced Poes API key, which appears on the test webpage.

Can generative AI chatbots give you the news?

ChatGPT, of course, couldnt search the web (yet)and doesnt have data past 2021. But it does offer suggestions for how you can find news.

Bing AI responded with a few stories with links to each.

Google Bard offers three versions of recent TikTok news overviews but no sources. This was the first draft.

Claude+ shared several news stories, but they are not from the week when the prompt was asked.

Want to find influencers in your niche or professionals to follow to learn more about a particular topic?

ChatGPT gave suggestions based on its training data up until 2021. One account on the list was suspended, but the rest were active.

Bing AI offered the shortest list. While it gave links, the links pointed back to the source of information rather than the actual Twitter accounts.

Google Bard offered three lists filled with suggestions. Unfortunately, some suggestions did not include usernames or had nothing to do with AI.

Claude+ produced the longest list, but a few accounts did not match the descriptions provided in its answer.

Looking for new tools to enhance your productivity? Depending on the context of the question, its unclear which generative AI chatbot can give you what you seek.

ChatGPT gave 15 tools in five categories for organizations to increase productivity.

Bing AI offered a list of simple tips and two tools.

Google Bard listed the types of tools you would need in the first draft and suggested specific tools in the other two drafts. Shown below is the second draft.

Claude+ gave a lengthy answer but only suggests three specific tools.

Need inspiration for your content strategy? AI chatbots can help you get started in the right direction.

Its important to note that AI-generated content is not unique. Large language models (LLMs) are trained on large amounts of data, including content published on the internet. Using AI-generated content as is may result in accusations of plagiarism.

Another concern is inaccurate information from AI responses. If you were to publish content directly from an AI chatbot without checking, you could accidentally promote misinformation to your audience.

Google expects all content including AI-generated content to be valuable for search users and demonstrate E-E-A-T quality.

Its in your best interest to use the content generated by AI as inspiration to help you create unique content with verified facts and your perspective.

ChatGPT initially provided 1,008 words after prompting it to please continue when it stopped halfway through. When prompted to write more to make it 2,000 words, it added an additional 1,068 words.

Bing AI refused to write a blog post but offered starting points.

Google Bard drafted three posts, only one of which had proper formatting. The highest word count in a single draft was 760. When prompted to write more to reach 2,000 words, it gave suggestions about additional topics it could write about related to Slack.

Claude+ wrote 627 words. When prompted to write more to reach 2,000 words, it rewrote the same post in 569 words.

Finally, heres what each generative AI chatbot believes it can do best.

ChatGPT provided a detailed but humble version of its capabilities.

Bing AI offered a short and sweet answer.

Google Bards answers seem similar to ChatGPTs.

Claude+, as usual, provided the most detailed answer with more advanced capabilities.

AI chatbots can already perform a wide variety of tasks. With time and refinement, each has the potential to make workers more productive and capable of higher-quality output.

Each AI chatbot has its unique benefits.

Unfortunately, all generative AI chatbots may offer outdated or incorrect information. Its up to users to take the information they receive and verify that it is the best information possible before utilizing it in any application.

Read Hilarious Trolling by Financial Firm Over WA Capital Gains … – newstalk870.am

You've probably seen their ads on TV: "we do better when our clients do better."

In the wake of the stunning decision by the WA State Supreme Court to uphold the notion that the capital gains tax is an excise tax and not an income tax (as considered by dozens of financial experts and even the IRS), Fisher Investments announced they are leaving WA state.

Their headquarters are in Camas, WA, and according to The Columbian Newspaper, they employ about 905 people in Clark County at their headquarters there.

According to Presswire, Fisher released this hilarious but blistering statement about relocating the headquarters to their facilities in Texas:

"PLANO, Texas,March 24, 2023/PRNewswire/ --In honor of theWashington StateSupreme Court's wisdom and knowledge of the law, and in recognition of whatever it may do next,Fisher Investmentsis immediately moving its headquarters fromWashington StatetoTexas."

As Simon Cowell once said famously, "this is some spectacular trolling." But the underlying foundation is much more serious. This is the first in what many financial and political experts say will be a steady exodus from WA state over this ruling. WA state is now the only place on the planet that considers capital gains to NOT be income. Income taxes are prohibited by the state constitution and therefore illegal.

When asked about the news released, according to The Columbian, Gov. Inslee's office responded with this statement thatincluded this from one of his press deputies:

Were not sure what this terse announcement means for the companys employees in Washington, Well be following developments. Its unfortunate that a company would go to such lengths to avoid a fairer tax system that will benefit working families.

The Columbian reports so far, no word from Fisher on how fast they will move, or if workers will be transferred from WA.

OpenAI rolls out ChatGPT plugins, granting iffy language model access to your apps – The Register

Analysis OpenAI this week introduced ChatGPT plugins, a way to extend the scope of its chatbot language model beyond the slurry of internet training data to bespoke business information.

So wary is OpenAI of all the ways that ChatGPT and its other models can misfire that the company begins its announcement by reassuring readers that its cautious rollout follows from its desire to address "safety and alignment challenges."

It does so with good reason large language models (LLMs), referred to euphemistically as artificial intelligence or just AI, are seen by some to be venomous constructs that must be contained.

LLMs are also limited to whatever information can be accessed or derived from their training data. As OpenAI puts it, "This information can be out-of-date and is one-size fits all across applications. Furthermore, the only thing language models can do out-of-the-box is emit text. This text can contain useful instructions, but to actually follow these instructions you need another process."

This other process consists of third-party applications and services. Presently, the following companies are testing the waters of this ecosystem: Expedia, FiscalNote, Instacart, Kayak, Klarna, Milo, OpenTable, Shopify, Slack, Speak, Wolfram, and Zapier. More can be expected to follow as OpenAI expands access to its plugin program.

"Though not a perfect analogy, plugins can be 'eyes and ears' for language models, giving them access to information that is too recent, too personal, or too specific to be included in the training data," OpenAI explained.

"In response to a users explicit request, plugins can also enable language models to perform safe, constrained actions on their behalf, increasing the usefulness of the system overall."

You can rest assured these actions will be safe because OpenAI's post contains more than 20 instances of "safe" or "safety." Repetition is the new compliance.

It's worth noting that the safety testing of GPT-4 [PDF] contemplated a sort of plugin scenario in which the model tried to convince a TaskRabbit worker to solve a CAPTCHA puzzle on the model's behalf.

In practical terms, OpenAI plugins allow people to enter text commands, via typing or speech recognition, and have ChatGPT formulate a response using data from third-party services. If this can be done accurately and quickly, without excessive cost, OpenAI may have found the successor of traditional web search.

Here's the example prompt from the announcement:

ChatGPT in this scenario has access to plugins from OpenTable, a restaurant reservation service, computational knowledge engine Wolfram Alpha, and InstaCart, a retail delivery service. And, using a recipe from an undisclosed source (presumably not statistically derived), the chat model can chain together the steps in the compound prompt by making a reservation, fetching a recipe, calculating the calorie count, and placing an order for the ingredients.

Back in 2006, the year AWS was founded and the cloud era arguably began, Google executives described the company's on-premises enterprise search capability as an "ber-command-line interface to the world," based on its hardware's ability to provide access to information beyond indexed corporate documents, like shipment tracking data and weather information.

OpenAI now has realized a more user-friendly prototype for that vision it's offering a command line, but not just for those who have memorized obscure command sequences and flags or search operators. Under this new regime, internet users of varied technical abilities can carry out queries without search keyword trial and error, limited more by the participation of third-party partners than by their own familiarity with search syntax.

Google will certainly have noted that OpenAI created a browser plugin that makes GET requests to the Bing search API. "This scopes the browsing plugin to be useful for retrieving information, but excludes 'transactional' operations such as form submission which have more surface area for security and safety issues," says OpenAI in its post.

Right about now, companies should be asking what the equivalent of search engine optimization (SEO) might be in an ecosystem driven by chat models. Is there a way to ensure ChatGPT recommends your widget and not the competition, if choice is an option? And is this approach compatible with the digital ad industry is ChatGPT better suited for referring traffic to websites or for invoking API-dependent services and whatever business model that entails?

Those contemplating OpenAI's plugin ecosystem should probably be considering the consequences of a dependency on the biz, which recently gave customers three days to shift away from its Codex API, only to relent after public outcry but just for researchers. There's also the possibility of being "Sherlocked" OpenAI may choose to build its own version of popular services as its platform evolves, making partners redundant.

"Were working to develop plugins and bring them to a broader audience," OpenAI concludes. "We have a lot to learn, and with the help of everyone, we hope to build something that is both useful and safe."

There's that word again.
