Your Mail 4-13: A TEA party by any other name … – Alexandria Town Talk

The Town Talk 11:02 p.m. CT April 12, 2017

Letters to the editor(Photo: Gannett)

My liberal friends are fretful, Donald Trump has threatened to let Obamacare destroy itself and make Democrats bend to his will in it's remaking.

That's one sixth of the economy, that's one sixth of the jobs and somebody in every family, but the rich, maybe, the rich have cousins, it's possible they care. If Donald Trump takes America hostage and they aren't prepared to burn the country to the ground, like the Tea Party, AKA Freedom Caucus, he'll have to change his name.

Corporate Media will of course ignore the fact that the Tea Party and Judy Miller changed their names for nefarious purposes.

They betrayed the Republic, everyone knew it, they changed their names and, at least in the case of the Tea Party, Freedom Caucus went back to undermining the Republic with every fiber of their beings, in their God's name.

But hey, exposing the fact that the Freedom Caucus is a renamed Tea Party, determined to bend America to it's will or see it go up in flames, would elect Democrats and put downward pressure on shareholder value.

7 years later! IRS finally decides tea-party group’s tax status – WND.com

The American Center for Law and Justice on Tuesday declared victory over the Internal Revenue Service at least for one of its clients after a Washington state group with tea party in its name was approved by the federal agency to receive tax-exempt status as a lobbying organization.

It took seven years.

The group approved, Tri-Cities Tea Party, had requested permission in 2010 to operate as a 501(c)(4) organization. The Obama administration wasembroiled in a scandal over instructions to IRS agents to harass and obstruct tea party, Christian and other conservative groupsapplying for tax-exempt status.

No group ofcitizens, whether conservative or liberal, should ever have their First Amendment rights to freedom of speech or the freedom of association infringed by a targeting scheme by a government agency. No group should be forced to wait more than seven years to receive a determination on their request for tax-exempt status, said the ACLJ, which represented the Washington state group.

This is a significant victory just days before Tax Day. But this issue is not over. We are still fighting on behalf of Tri-Cities and other clients to see that they receive justice and those responsible for this unconstitutional targeting scheme are held accountable.

Your one-stop recourse for the best books on economics, from The American Dream Under Fire to End the IRS Before It Ends Us and Godonomics, is the WND Superstore.

The legal team explained the bureaucratic nightmare started when the organization first contacted the IRS to file its 501(c)(4) application in March 2010.

The IRS did little or nothing with respect to the submitted application for approximately six months, the report said. Then Tri-Cities got a lengthy list of additional questions.

Then another 15 months dragged by.

The IRS, the ACLJ report said, was in no rush. In fact, it was intentionally dragging its heels, keeping another conservative group from obtaining the tax-exempt status it deserved. This was common practice with many of our clients. Months and even years would go by with no response from the IRS. The intrusive questions and delay after delay were all tactics used by the IRS as part of their unconstitutional targeting scheme.

Obamas IRS sent another round of questions nearly two years after the application was filed: Twenty-seven questions with 28 subparts.

Eight months later, the IRS admitted that it really didnt need that information.

But still no resolution.

Eventually, Tri-Cities retained the ACLJ to help it determine the appropriate way to respond to the continuing onerous demands of the IRS. At this point, however, the IRS seemed content to allow Tri-Cities to languish in a black hole of uncertainty, the legal team said.

Even with our representation, Tri-Cities continued to be ignored entirely by the IRS for months on end, and they expanded this practice by ignoring our communications on behalf of our clients.

It was in 2013when Lois Lerner, then the director of the Exempt Organizations Unit of the IRS, admitted publicly that the IRS had been targeting conservative, Christian and tea-party groups, and the ACLJ sued on behalf of dozens of organizations from more than 20 states.

The IRS, after being told to resolve the Tri-Cities issues, tried to do so by denying its members permission to participate in the process.

However, the ACLJ said, that determinationnow has been set aside, and the original application approved.

While the IRS targeting scandal was just one of several dozen major controversies to plague the Obama administration, it was one of the more egregious, as the official weight of government power bludgeoned activist groups that wanted to participate in the political process.

Judicial Watch, the Washington watchdog that has for years been fighting to access IRS documents that reveal the extent of its discriminatory actions against Christians and conservatives, has asked President Trump to consider criminal counts against the much-feared federal agency.

President Trump needs to reopen the criminal investigation of the IRS as soon as he is sworn into office, said Tom Fitton, the president of the organization, before the inauguration.

Investigations have revealed that the IRS agents would deliberately delay issuing a decision on organizations that were in conflict with Obamas agenda. That meant they couldnt obtain tax-exempt status, and they couldnt even appeal.

Among the IRS strategies was to ask inappropriate questions, such as what was the content of members prayers.

The IRS also was found to have been making inappropriate demands such as that a conservative group denounce opposition to Planned Parenthoods abortion agenda.

Multiple lawsuits resulted, and some of those organizations have yet to get a decision from the federal agency. Cases still are under way.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled at one point that the IRS did, in fact, discriminate against tea party groups.

Some of the groups harassed by the Obama administration even demanded the government appoint an independent prosecutor to decide if criminals charges should be filed.

We have seen a deliberate and systematic effort by the IRS to delay, deflect and deceive Congress in its effort to hold those responsible for this unlawful targeting scheme accountable, said ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow at the time.

Tea Party, Indivisible Groups Pack GOP Rep. Warren Davidson Town Hall In Troy – WYSO

A raucous mix of more than 200 Trump supporters and opponents crowded into a town hall meeting with Republican 8th district Congressman Warren Davidson Tuesday night in Troy. The event was hosted by Tea Party organization Miami County Liberty.

Davidson is a member of the conservative and libertarian House Freedom Caucus and was elected to fill the seat of Former House Speaker John Boehner last year.

The event was one of many similar town halls planned around the country Tuesday as Congress begins a two-week recess this week.

Davidson took only written questions submitted by the audience in advance. He spoke at length about a range of issues, including tax reform, Syria, gun control, Russia and health-care reform.

Davidson has supported repeal of the Affordable Care Act, but did not support the recent Republican repeal-and-replace bill, which was pulled from consideration in March. The Congressman told the crowd why he opposed the failed GOP plan.

The concern that I think everyone had was, wait a minute, the first three years' premiums go up, even worse than Obamacare? Thats a problem," he said.

Congressional lawmakers continue to consider changes to the federal health law.

The town-hall audience included both GOP voters and members of the left-leaning coalition Indivisible, which has several chapters in and around the Dayton area.

The event grew heated after some audience members expressed frustration with Davidsons statements and policies. Some in the crowd jeered.

And a group of about two dozen people walked out of the town hall in protest. Several other people were asked to leave.

The group assembled outside the venue and chanted their disapproval with Davidson's views, and the town hall organizers' handling of questions.

Michaela Little, from the group Indivisible OH8 in Butler County, says many people in the Miami Valley are concerned about a wide range of issues including health care, immigration, the economy and tax reform.

I think the idea is that we want to feel like he understands where we are coming from and has some respect for that, and will look at that when he makes decisions in Congress, she says.

Davidson expressed surprise at the contentious tone of the town hall.

Most everybody from around here [is] pretty civil, so this is pretty uncharacteristic for Ohio, said Davidson. So, when Ive talked to people back in DC, people talking about town halls, people are asking what it has been like ... until tonight I hadnt experienced what a lot of folks had. Its mostly civil.

Indivisible and other activist groups have been calling on Miami Valley lawmakers, including 10th District Republican Congressman Mike Turner, to hold similar town hall events this spring.
