LV Tea Party demands answers from East Penn

EMMAUS, Pa. -

The head of the Lehigh Valley Tea Party is demanding a public explanation from East Penn School Board about the school district's handling of construction debris containing potentially hazardous asbestos that was buried near an elementary school.

Tea party chairman Ronnie DelBacco accuses the school district of committing an environmental crime and charges that its board is "disinterested in uncovering the truth."

DelBacco sent his open letter to all nine school board members Monday and to news media, including Fox News.

The school board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The letter was in regard to "recent illegal dumping and environmental crimes."

DelBacco said taxpayers deserve answers to "a few serious questions before any of your re-election campaigns begin."

Those questions have to do with construction debris illegally dumped on wooded East Penn property near Wescosville Elementary School by unknown parties last year.

After the district learned about it, unidentified administrators ordered the material buried on the site. School officials have said those administrators no longer are employed in the dsitrict.

Although he misspelled his name, in his letter DelBacco asked if former district superintendent Thomas Seidenberger ordered burying the material. Siedenberger, who retired a few months ago, has denied to Channel 69 News that he did that.

Were they disruptive or was it the T-shirt that caused the president of the Cincinnati Tea Party and others to be ejected Monday night Ohio Gov. John Kasich's campaign rally in West Chester Township?

Ann Becker, tea party president and a Butler County voter, said she was wearing an "Ohioans Against Common Core" T-shirt when private security stopped her from entering the event at Voice of America MetroPark and asked if she was invited.

The security officer went inside to confirm the invitation with Butler County GOP officials, who hosted the rally, while about eight other people got into the event without being stopped, Becker said.

Becker, who served as a Butler County GOP central committee woman until May, said she was told she was not on the guest list, even though she showed the officer the email RSVP she had sent to the Butler County GOP earlier in the day.

"He said I had to leave the premises immediately or I would be removed," said Becker, who was among a group of T-shirt wearing protesters who were denied access to the event.

"I was turned away by my own county party. That's my voting location."

The protesters had lined the driveway leading up to the Ronald Reagan Lodge where the rally was held. Becker said she took off the T-shirt to gain access to the event but was still denied.

Kasich campaign spokeswoman Connie Wehrkamp didn't mention the T-shirts in her emailed comment to The Enquirer.

"Unfortunately a few people chose to be disruptive and were asked to leave by security," Wehrkamp said.

Wedding theme for Hope tea party

Liverpool Hope University hosted a wedding-themed tea party for older people from South Liverpool.

Members of staff transported the guests to Hope Park, where they were met by students for afternoon tea.

Cakes were made by staff and students in their spare time, people were invited to bring their wedding pictures, and the room was decorated in a wedding day theme.

The afternoon also included a 90th birthday celebration for one of the guests.

The regular events are part of the nationwide Contact the Elderly initiative, which is dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation among older people.

The afternoon teas are growing increasingly popular and the team is always on the lookout for volunteer drivers, bakers and hosts among staff and students.

The November afternoon tea will include a special visitor a puppy from the Guide Dogs Association.

Graduate Assistant Naomi Fitzgerald-Kelly said: I find it really worthwhile because you can see just how enjoyable it is for the guests the atmosphere is fantastic.

Karen Wilson, from the Liverpool Hopes Resource Management and Planning team, said: I volunteered for Contact the Elderly because I genuinely enjoy afternoon teas, and it is a chance to meet new people staff, students and guests.

Everyone is welcome you dont have to bake, or even commit to attending every month, but simply come along and enjoy good company and conversation.

Roberts bags tea party endorsement; Orman accepts GOP Praeger's backing

U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts snagged the endorsement Monday of a tea party political action committee while independent Senate candidate Greg Orman released a commercial featuring an endorsement by Kansas' Republican insurance commissioner.

Taylor Budowich, executive director of the Tea Party Express, moved to back Roberts' re-election despite previously advocating for the senator's GOP primary opponent Milton Wolf. Roberts prevailed in the August race, but damaged relations with tea party activists in Kansas.

"Voters know exactly where Sen. Roberts stands on every key issue, and they can rest assured their interests are being represented in the upper chamber," Budowich said in Wichita.

In February, Tea Party Express PAC chairman Amy Kremer said the California organization favored Wolf because he wasn't among "career politicians who have buried future generations under crippling debt" and that Wolf would provide the "kind of conservative leadership that has been largely absent for far too long in D.C."

Orman's campaign began broadcasting a 30-second spot highlighting support from Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger, who is a Republican not seeking re-election in November.

Praeger said Kansas voters would be best served by embracing Orman rather than the three-term incumbent.

"We see such gridlock in Washington they won't work together," Praeger said in the ad. "I'm ready for a fresh face, someone who will represent the best interests of Kansas."

"Greg Orman wants to make a difference, finding innovative ways to solve problems. Being an independent gives him the opportunity to find ways to work with both sides of the aisle to end the gridlock," she said.

Praeger was among Republicans who expressed support for the federal health care overhaul signed into law by President Barack Obama.

Orman and Roberts have tangled during the run up to the general election on the issue of health insurance reform.
