First Poster for ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ Goes 8-Bit

Seven months from now we will be seeing the release of Disneys latest animated feature Wreck-It Ralph. The movie is based on the world of coin-operated arcade games and follows Ralph (voiced by John C. Reilly) as an antagonist of a rampage-like arcade game.

Bored of the same old mundane defeats he suffers at the hands of Fix-It Felix (Jack McBrayer), hero and overall good guy, Ralph decides to break out of his world and jump into other arcades to prove that he is more than just a guy who wrecks stuff, hes a hero.

Now we got the first poster for Wreck-It Ralph (via MSN) and if you are familiar with 8-bit technology and retro gaming, then you should be happy to see this piece of work.

The first poster for Wreck-It Ralph successfully conveys that this will be a movie about video games. The older generation, especially those who still remember first generation Nintendo games, will love the 8-bit feel that the poster has.

However, what concerns me is whether or not gamers only familiar with the current-gen games will understand what Wreck-It Ralph is. How many younger gamers have experienced classic 8-bit games of the late 80s and early 90s in an actual arcade?

Though the poster clearly shows that the movie is a Walt Disney Animation creation, its hard to tell what they are selling given that there is no actual title for the movie displayed on it (outside of the Facebook tag). So unless you attended last years D23 Expo or have been keeping up with movie blogs, then you might not even know what this is for without having it described.

Still,Wreck-It Ralph is in the early stages of its marketing campaign and hopefully with the release of this poster, there will be a trailer coming out very soon.

Directed by Rich Moore, Wreck-It Ralph features the voices of John C. Reilly, Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch, and Sarah Silverman. Wreck-It Ralph will hit theaters on November 2, 2012.

Cardigan Bay's famous dolphins take their holidays in the Isle of Man

NEW evidence has emerged of the distances Cardigan Bays famous dolphins choose to travel during the winter months.

Experts have found at least some of them head north and like to spend their winter breaks in the seas around the Isle of Man.

Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centres (CBMWC) science officer Sarah Perry has been studying photographs taken by Manx conservation groups in Douglas Bay in January and has managed to identify at least eight of the animals previously seen off New Quay.

The images were taken by the Manx Wildlife Trust marine officer Eleanor Stone.

The dolphins are matched by examining the dorsal fins, which all have naturally occurring marks from interaction between dolphins.

In January three dolphins were matched from the photographs, which were posted on the trusts Facebook page, now a further five have been identified and Ms Perry is confident that more will be recognised.

We can pick out individuals by the marks and scars on the dorsal fins on their backs in fact we have positive identifications for more than 300 animals in Cardigan Bay and we can match our photographs with those taken elsewhere, she said.

Were really excited about this because it confirms how far the Cardigan Bay dolphins roam in the winter months when we see fewer of them at New Quay knowledge we need to have if were to protect them successfully.

The sharing of such data is also carried out between the Manx Wildlife Trust and the Sea Watch Foundation and Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society.

One of the dolphins, known by CBMWC researchers as 056, is a regular visitor to Cardigan Bay.

by Shirley Callow

Staff at Barclays in the Isle of Man have helped raise over 46,000 for their Charity of the Year 2011, Hospice Isle of Man.

Each year staff are asked to nominate local charities which they think deserve to be the recipients of Barclays fundraising efforts for the coming year. The charities that receive the most nominations are then asked to present to the Charity Committee which selects the charity of the year. Hospice Isle of Man was set up nearly 29 years ago and provides specialist palliative care for patients and their families facing life-limiting illness and life threatening illnesses. All care which includes physical, psychological, social and spiritual aspects and is provided by a multidisciplinary team is free of charge. Hospice provides inpatient facilities, respite care, therapeutic day care, specialist nurses, social worker, counselling, along with a range of complementary therapies and a Hospice at Home service.

Hospice Isle of Man also runs a childrens wing called Rebecca House. It is a purpose built facility which provides respite, palliative and end of life care for children with life-limiting conditions from birth to 18 years. Rebecca House offers a safe haven and a home from home environment in which care is offered and implemented in a way appropriate to the child and their family. Today Rebecca House looks after 25 children.

Throughout the year staff have been taking part in fundraising initiatives including, cake bakes, raffles, a marathon railway journey, dress-down days, the Parish Walk and even having the Easter Bunny delivering eggs! They have also supported events such as the Hospice Christmas Fair and Annual Dinner. All in all, through their efforts and the Barclays for fund matching, they have raised in excess of 46,000.

Chair of the Charity Committee Stuart Nelson said: I am delighted to be handing over a cheque for 46,000 to Hospice Isle of Man. It is great to see so many of our staff getting involved in fundraising activities and helping to build on the amounts raised for our chosen charities each year. I would like to thank Mary Doyle and the staff from Hospice for making our charity work in 2011 so enjoyable and I hope that the money we have presented to the charity will help them with the important work they carry out in our local community.

Mary Doyle, PR and Marketing Manager for Hospice Isle of Man said: A massive thank you to the whole team at Barclays we definitely had fun in fundraising and working with them during 2011. The money will make a huge difference to Hospices ongoing work.
