Ultra Virus Killer – Malware Removal and System Repair Multi-Tool

Ultra Virus Killer, also known as UVK, is a free and portable application designed to help users detect and remove malware. UVK acts as a swiss army knife of malware removal as it contains similar functionality to a range of computer technician software use such as Process Explorer, Autoruns, Unlocker, Windows Repair and more.

The strength of this application is not just its ability to help you remove the offending malware, but repair the damaged Windows install afterwards. For example, the application allows you to create scripts that will reset the hosts file and DNS, Reset IE, Reset Group Policy, Fix .exe extensions and much more.

While I was researching UVK, I discovered that the creator of UVK is a Technibble forum regular with some sizeable threads about it.

UVK has too many features to list here so be sure to check out the screenshots.

Cancer, number one killer disease in Nigeria – Olaleye

The Chief Executive Officer of the Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, Dr. Femi Olaleye, has said that cancer kills more Nigerians each year than any other ailment.

Describing cancer as a serious threat to health in the country, Olaleye urged Nigerians, especially women, to protect themselves from the disease by undergoing regular medical screening.

Everybody is at risk of having one cancer or the other, but some people face greater risks than others. Regular cancer screening is good service for every Nigerian. It will give you the necessary information about your health, he said.

Olaleye said this on Wednesday during a lecture at the 2013 retirement and awards ceremony of the Women in Technical Education and Employment, Yaba College of Technology chapter, in Lagos.

The doctor, whose foundation aims at screening 10,000 women for cancer in Lagos alone, warned that early sexual intercourse among women might lead to infection with the Human Papilloma Virus, causer of cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer is the number one killer of women in Nigeria at present. It is the major factor that causes death during childbirth. In fact, for every woman killed by breast cancer, two others die of cervical cancer, he said.

Olaleye noted that a timely detection of cancerous tissues through screening and vaccination of female children, which should begin from age 10, could help prevent full-blown cervical and breast cancer.

He advised the women to minimise the risk of breast cancer by practising constant self-examination.

Breast cancer begins as a tiny lump and it grows with time until death occurs. The best way to prevent this or reduce deaths caused by the ailment, by almost 99 per cent, is to always check your breasts for such tiny lumps, he said.

Also, Olaleye described prostate cancer as mostly responsible for the untimely deaths of men over 40 years in Nigeria, adding that the incidence could be checked through screening.

The New and Improved Flu Killer

Researchers conducted a test of the new four-strain influenza vaccine, available for the first time this year, to determine how well it protected against the flu in young children.

The four strain vaccine, which protects against four types of influenzatwo viruses from the A class and two from the B classdoes as good a job of protecting against flu than the three-strain shot, but is better at preventing moderate to severe disease than the traditional immunization.

The international group of researchers, who described their findings in a report published in the New England Journal of Medicine, attributed the four-strain, or quadrivalent vaccines effectiveness to the fact that it contained both circulating B types of influenza. In previous years, in which only one of the B strains was included, the immunization had a 50-50 chance of being mismatched to the circulating virus, making it less effective.

The scientists tested the quadrivalent flu vaccine in 2,379 children ages three to eight in Bangladesh, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Lebanon, Panama, the Philippines, Thailand and Turkey and compared their rates of flu infection to a control group of 2398 children who received a hepatitis A vaccine. The study was sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline, which donated both vaccines for the trial.

Compared to the control group, the four strain vaccine was 55% effective in protecting against flu. Thats similar to the efficacy of the three strain shots, but, the research team found, the quadrivalent shot was 70% effective in preventing more serious cases of the flu; most of the children who did get sick after getting vaccinated only had mild symptoms. The four-strain shot also resulted in 69% fewer medical visits, 75% fewer hospitalizations, 77% fewerabsencesfrom school, and 61% fewer parentabsencesfrom work.

Thats an important benefit, since flu can result in lost school days for children and lower productivity for adults. The efficacy of the vaccine was higher against moderate-to-severe diseasea potentially important end point associated with the highest clinical, social, and economic burdenthan against illness of any severity, the authors conclude.

AIDS campaigners recall Mandela's initiative to combat killer disease

Former South African President Nelson Mandela (R) dons a white T-shirt with the words "HIV Positive" as he visits the Nolungile Clinic in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, South Africa together with AIDS activist Zackie Achmat, in this 2002 file photo from Medicins Sans Frontieres.

PARIS - AIDS campaigners on Friday mourned the passing of Nelson Mandela, declaring his stand against taboo and stigma had turned the tide against the killer disease.

"Nelson Mandela was a central figure in the AIDS movement. He was instrumental in laying the foundations of the modern AIDS response," said Michel Sidibe, head of the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS, or UNAIDS.

"His actions helped save millions of lives and transformed health in Africa. He broke the conspiracy of silence and gave hope that all people should live with dignity."

Of Mandela's achievements, UNAIDS pointed to his decision in 2005 to go public with the news that his own son, Makgatho, had died of AIDS-related causes.

"His public revelation helped drive debate about HIV. And his support to people living with HIV helped to break down stigma and discrimination," UNAIDS said in a press release.

The International AIDS Society (IAS), whose conferences have spearheaded the war on AIDS and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes it, said the world "has lost an extraordinary statesman and human being".

"Mr. Mandela had the power to change hearts and minds, change policies and above all change the public's perception of the virus in the most affected region of sub-Sahara," said Bertrand Audoin, executive director of the IAS.
