5 tips for dealing with the press

The following blog post, unless otherwise noted, was written by a member of Gamasutras community. The thoughts and opinions expressed are those of the writer and not Gamasutra or its parent company.

Theres a lot of words wrote about how to contact the press, lots of good words, lots of bad words, lots of dense words (Mikes post is great info but super, super dense to wade through, do click through the links at the bottom too) and The Bible.

Ive done words about press things myself in the past too (1), (2) but theres a few things its probably worth adding given some stuff Ive read recently and from the state of my own inbox. Let's start with the most important first.

You send review codes to the press for them to review your game.

I cant stress this hard enough, if you want someone to review your game, enable that.

Make as few steps between Id like you to review this game and hey, we can review this game for you as possible. The easiest way to do this is to provide them with a code or review copy off the bat.

I want you to review the game, here is the game. Ta da.

This is the single most obvious thing to do, yet in my experience its the single most overlooked one too.

Put yourself in the shoes of your average everyday hard hitting games journalist. You have ten minutes spare to look at something else. You have two emails sitting in your inbox. The first is a blurb for a game out today, "contact me for a review code" it says. The second is a blurb for a different game out today, "here's how you can download the game right now" it says.

Word on the Street: Adam Kinzinger for governor? It could make sense

Talk to any batch of Republicans around here for very long, and the discussion invariably turns to the slight dismay sometimes more over the choices for the gubernatorial nomination next year.

If only there were someone else running, many have said publicly and privately.

Well, there may be.

Last week, calls went out to voters elsewhere in the state inquiring about the support for Rep. Adam Kinzinger possibly making a bid for the governors mansion.

The Channahon Republicans camp has been quiet about the calls which, wed stress, do not definitely come from them. In fact, a spokesperson with his campaign operation didnt even return a phone call from us.

But, closed lips or not, it got us thinking here. The prospects of a Kinzinger bid would seem to be good just based on the evidence. Consider:

The 35-year-old is in his second term in Congress, and has built a strong conservative record. But hes done it with a rhetoric that hasnt turned off moderates. Hes been positive and constructive in any of our conversations with him, and has made rebuilding the GOP brand in Illinois a priority.

He has downstate ties grew up in Bloomington, went to Illinois State University, served on the McLean County Board starting while he was in college but now lives in the Chicago suburbs. Having represented two districts thanks to the political maps being redrawn hes a familiar face in about 20 counties, mainly downstate. Locally, hes served us in Woodford, Stark, Bureau and Putnam counties.

But those districts have also gotten to the edge of the Chicago media market, so hes known there. (Hes also familiar with those in the Rockford, Peoria-Bloomington and Champaign TV markets.)

His personal narrative is compelling, too. He left government service to enlist in the U.S. Air Force after 9/11, served multiple tours of duty in Iraq. To this day, he does service for the Air National Guard. Hes young, photogenic, well-spoken and got great press in 2006 before returning to politics for disarming a knife-wielding man who attacked a woman on a Milwaukee street.

PTI chief defends use of word – DAWN.COM

ISLAMABAD: PTI chief Imran Khan pleaded before the Supreme Court on Tuesday to withdraw its contempt notice against him and clarified that the word sharamnak (shameful) he had used in his July 26 press conference was never used in its literal sense or connotation but in the context of unbecoming.

But in his 21-page comprehensive reply he severely criticised Election Commission Member retired Justice Riaz Kiani who he said acted more as a representative of the PML-N which had nominated him for the post and described his role as most shocking.

Mr Khan will appear on Wednesday before a bench comprising Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry that will resume the contempt proceedings against him.

He is facing the charge for his statement at a press conference in which he criticised the role of the judiciary and the ECP as shameful. He alleged that the general elections had been rigged due to the role played by the two institutions.

Mr Khan did not mention the words regrets, apology or remorse in his reply but requested the bench to consider his demeanour in the court and his past services to the cause of rule of law and independence of judiciary in his favour to conclude that he would neither commit contempt of court nor would ever scandalise the court or bring any judge into hatred, ridicule or contempt.

The reply mentions his disappointment and sadness over a June 8 meeting of the National Judicial Policymaking Committee, headed by the chief justice of Pakistan and attended by the chief justices of all the high courts that had expressed satisfaction over the performances of the district returning officers and returning officers in the elections.

It was indeed shocking to the PTI and its candidates because they felt that their cases have already been prejudged by the NJPMC, he said, adding that it appeared that the acts of the DROs and ROs had been condoned and they had been given a clean chit.

He said a large number of aggrieved PTI candidates had not filed election petitions because of disappointment arising out of the meeting.

Explaining further why he had vented his frustration at the press conference, the reply said the July 24 Supreme Court order of advancing the presidential election date to July 30 from Aug 6 after allowing a PML-N petition without any notice to the PTI.

Mr Khan said the unfair election process had resulted in the unfortunate exit of Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim.
