DGAP-News: Biotest AG: Biotest Group reports increase of EBIT

PRESS RELEASE

Biotest Group reports increase of EBIT

- EBIT up 13.5% at EUR 11.8 million

- Sales increased to EUR 118.7 million

- Management Board confirms guidance

Dreieich, 8 May 2013. In the first three months of financial year 2013 the Biotest Group was able to significantly increase sales again and achieve a new quarterly sales record. In the reporting period the Group generated revenues of EUR 118.7 million compared to EUR 107.7 million in the same quarter of the previous year. This represents an increase of 10.2 %.

Profitability also increased significantly. Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) increased in the reporting period by 13.5 % from EUR 10.4 million to EUR 11.8 million. The largest increase was generated by the Plasma & Services segment, where EBIT increased by 83.3 % compared to the first quarter of 2012.

The growth in sales was driven primarily by the international markets. Whereas there was slight growth in Europe, sales in the US increased significantly. The market launch of Bivigam(R) in February 2013 was the main reason for the double-digit growth in this market.

The marketing authorisation of Bivigam(R) by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as the market launch of the product represent important milestones for Biotest. The Biotest Group estimates a sales potential of about USD 100 million over the medium to long term for this immunoglobulin used to treat patients with primary humoral immune deficiencies.

The business performance of the Biotest Group continues to be very positive. For this reason the Management Board reaffirms its target of increasing sales by 10 % to 15 % in the current year. The management expects a similar increase in EBIT.

Fergie retirement: Finishing first and having the last word, Sir Alex Ferguson's lifelong obsession

By Geoffrey Levy

PUBLISHED: 18:01 EST, 8 May 2013 | UPDATED: 01:39 EST, 9 May 2013

He could never really have retired last year at 70, as quietly planned. Not as a loser. Not when the last kick of the football season meant coming second worst of all, second to his 'noisy neighbours' Manchester City.

Right to the last Sir Alex Ferguson had to be a winner. If he had to bully, insult, rant, trick and intimidate to overwhelm all opposition, if he had to put off his long-delayed retirement for another year, then so be it. He had to have the last word, the last kick.

And so it has turned out. No wonder he was so fulsome in his gratitude yesterday to Cathy, his wife of 47 years. Eleven years ago when he first decided to retire at 60, it was she who convinced him he was too young. How could a man who regularly worked out in the club gymnasium before 7am really think of retiring?

Last year, as the Premier League title slipped away, and even before he told her 'It can't end like this I've got to keep going', she knew that her husband could only bow out of football on a high.

So what drove Sir Alex to such obsessive heights of need? His poor family start in life in the Govan shipyard area of Glasgow, perhaps? The fact that he never scaled any serious heights as a player?

Or could it have been the damning words of an industrial tribunal in Paisley which marked him out as a managerial failure when he was 37? The lifelong Labour supporter took the unheard-of step (in football) of taking St Mirren football club to the tribunal when it fired him after four years as manager.

Senior who tweeted the “n word” can’t walk at graduation, go to prom but will get diploma from School of Arts

The School of the Arts senior who used the n word in a tweet about a black classmate wont be able to go to the prom or walk with her class on graduation day.

Ashley Patrick still will receive a diploma from School of the Arts, but she will have to complete 20 hours of community service and write a 500-word paper on racisim and social media.

Patrick was expressionless as she listened to the Charleston County School Boards decision, and she walked out of the room in tears.

(Walking with her class) was what she wanted, and thats the one thing they want to take away from her, said Dwayne Green, her attorney.

Five members of the Charleston County School Board agreed 4-1 today to uphold the North Charleston Constituent School Boards decision, which was allowing Patrick to stay at School of the Arts until she graduates. The constituent school board put her on strict probation.

District officials said strict probation means no extracurricular activities, and graduation and prom are considered extracurriculuar activities. Patrick still will be a graduate of School of the Arts, even if she doesnt participate in the actual ceremony.

County school board member Craig Ascue said Patrick had a lesson to learn, and this was part of it.

There are worse things in life for a high school senior, he said of Patrick being unable to walk at graduation.

Elizabeth Moffly was the lone vote against the majority.

Phillies Still Waiting For Word On Halladay, Cloyd Called Up

Roy Halladay (Photo by Jason Miller/Getty Images)

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) The Philadelphia Phillies are still unsure how long theyll be without injured two-time Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay.

Halladay, on the 15-day disabled list because of inflammation in his throwing shoulder, met with Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles on Tuesday, but Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said he had yet to hear results of the examination.

I havent talked to him but I look forward to talking to him, Manuel said before Philadelphia played San Francisco. I expect to hear something probably later on today, probably before I go home tonight.

Halladay is 2-4 with an 8.65 ERA in seven starts this season after missing nearly two months last season with a strained back muscle.

The 35-year-old right-hander is in the final season of his contract, making $20 million this year.

The Phillies announced Tyler Cloyd will be called up and start in Halladays rotation spot on Friday in Arizona.

A roster move will be made prior to that game to accommodate him.
