WPGurus.net Offers Custom WordPress Development Services

A new theme development service has been launched by WP Gurus.

(PRWEB) April 01, 2013

There are millions of themes available on the Internet but most of them have been designed with bloggers in mind and therefore do not have the features that businesses need. For anyone looking to create a unique and influential brand name, a custom design is of utmost importance. While developing a theme, the programmer can include any feature of his choice. A shopping cart system can be integrated into a WordPress store theme so that the end-user can create a feature-rich online shop without having to fiddle with complex third-party scripts. Similarly, things like a reservation system and food menus can be added to a restaurant WordPress theme. However such specialized features aren't available in the free options out there. Other useful things that usually come with a custom theme are contact forms, shortcodes, jQuery sliders and galleries.

Many of the themes available on the Internet have unprofessional coding which creates a lot of problems for the website owner. A poorly coded website is not only slow but its overall resource consumption is also very high. In addition such websites are prone to attacks and security breaches. That is why it is never a good idea to install such a theme on a website that contains sensitive customer data. By hiring a professional developer to create a custom design, all these issues can be avoided. Themes created by professionals do not have any security loopholes or poor-quality code in them. Another advantage of quality coding is that it helps the website in reaching the top of search engine results. These days Google and other popular engines are using website speed as ranking criterion. The faster a website is, the more likely it is to reach the first page of SERPs.

While using a cost-free theme the website owner does not have any control over the design of his website. In most cases he can't even change the fonts, the color scheme or the basic layout of his blog. On the contrary, premium themes are very easy to customize. These templates have robust control panels that allow the user to change each visual element individually.

WPGurus.net is a reputable website that has been providing quality services to business owners for many years. Their new theme development service is helping business owners in harnessing the full power of the Internet.

Associated Press drops ‘illegal immigrant’ from stylebook

The Associated Press announced today that it will no longer use the term "illegal immigrant" to describe people who are living in the country illegally.

"The Stylebook no longer sanctions the term 'illegal immigrant' or the use of 'illegal' to describe a person," AP Executive Editor Kathleen Carroll wrote. "Instead, it tells users that 'illegal' should describe only an action, such as living in or immigrating to a country illegally."

The change comes after a campaign from immigrant activists, led by journalist Jose Antonio Vargas, for news organizations and politicians to stop using "illegal" to describe immigrants. They argue the term gives the impression that immigrants have broken criminal law, when some immigration infractionsincluding overstaying a visaare only civil violations.

Advocates prefer the term "undocumented," but the AP says it will not use that word because it is imprecise. ("A person may have plenty of documents, just not the ones required for legal residence," Carroll wrote.)

The change comes as a major immigration reform bill, which could legalize millions of immigrants living in the U.S., is expected to be unveiled by a bipartisan group of senators.

The AP Stylebook is widely used by most news organizations in the U.S. and is considered the industry's foremost guide for style and word usage. Yahoo News generally follows the AP Stylebook.

Army employee shot, killed at Fort Knox in Ky. Associated Press |

An Army civilian employee was shot and killed in a parking lot at Kentucky's Fort Knox, and investigators were seeking to question a man in connection with the shooting, authorities said

Army officials said in a news release late Wednesday that the victim was an employee of the U.S. Army Human Resources Command, which handles personnel actions for soldiers. The shooting occurred in a lot outside the command. The victim was transported to the Ireland Army Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are investigating a personal incident and not a random act of violence," said Chris Grey, spokesman for the independent Army investigative agency.

The identity of the victim was being withheld pending notification of family.

Police were seeking to speak with a person of interest in the case. The news release identified him as a 5-foot, 9-inch black man who is American and is believed to be using a black Yamaha motorcycle for transportation.

Fort Knox police received a 911 call about the shooting at about 5:40 pm., the news release said.

As a security measure, the post's gates were locked down at about 5:50 p.m. About an hour later, the main gate was fully reopened, but due to enhanced security measures, those coming and going were advised to expect delays.

The Word : A new coach for the Portland Timbers, and a new philosophy for Merritt Paulson

"The Word" is MLSsoccer.com's weekly long-form series. In this week's final part of a three-part feature, senior editor Nick Firchau examines the relationship between Portland Timbers owner and president Merritt Paulson and general manager Gavin Wilkinson, and the expectations surrounding new head coach Caleb Porter.

Read the first part of the series here, and the second part of the series here.

PORTLAND, Ore. When the Portland Timbers parted ways with embattled head coach John Spencer in July 2012, they didnt look far a replacement. He was the owners closest friend in Portland.

Sitting just inches to owner and president Merritt Paulsons left during the emotional press conference that sealed Spencers fate was general manager Gavin Wilkinson, who had been by Paulsons side since Day 1. Wilkinson who first joined the Timbers as a player during the teams days in the A-League in 2001 and became the teams head coach in 2007 is perhaps the person Paulson most trusts with his teams on-field success, and has been the driving force behind the young owners soccer education since he bought the team six years ago.

But to expect Wilkinson to be the long-term solution to the Timbers problems? Even Paulson knew that might be asking too much. Paulson installed a reluctant Wilkinson into a double shift as both GM and interim head coach and set about finding Spencers permanent replacement for the 2013 season, a process that he said rejuvenated him after the disappointing and high-profile coaching change.

Portland Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson served as the team's head coach for four seasons before their MLS debut in 2011, but he says he was reluctant to take the post again when the 2012 season fell apart.

Meanwhile Wilkinson still had to see out the season, and that proved far tougher than most expected for both GM and owner. He made his MLS coaching debut on July 14 in a nationally televised 5-3 defeat to the reigning MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy at JELD-WEN Field, and while the match was one of the teams most thrilling of the year to watch Designated Player Kris Boyd delivered two goals in his first game without friend and countryman Spencer as his coach it laid bare the disparity between a real MLS title contender and the Timbers, who went on to lose their first four games with Wilkinson at the helm.
