Lou Piniella uses the word ‘raped’ while discussing the Blue Jays-Marlins trade

(AP file photo)Lou Piniella has never been known for his way with words. The ex-manager is a master of the malaprop and his difficulty with the English language caused more than a few press conference chuckles during his skipper days.

What Piniella said while he provided commentary for the YES Network during Wednesday's Red Sox-Yankees game though, was far from funny.

After being asked in the eighth inning about last year's lopsided trade between the Toronto Blue Jays and Miami Marlins, Piniella's apparent initial impulse was to describe it as a sexual assault. And while Sweet Lou never technically used that description, he still completely stepped in it by even saying the word.

Here's a transcription of what Piniella said (via Larry Brown Sports) and here's the awkward audio via Deadspin:

Well they just, I dont want to use the word raped, but they basically took a lot of talent from the Miami Marlins, Piniella said. Toronto will probably be picked to win the (AL East) by a lot of people.

Here's the thing: Letting the word pass his lips constitutes using it, even if he followed it by saying that wasn't his intention. It's why Piniella who currently draws paychecks to speak publicly for a living might want to look into a better filter when describing a trade that was heavy on prospects for pros.

Because, yes, there are words so crude and offensive that they can't be laughed away as humorous misspeak from a crusty old lifer.

Website tool to increase security for WordPress users

Hackers and phishers are a big problem for many online businesses, but a new product, IPVenger, is set up to help businesses defend their online space from attacks. From Norse Corp, the IPVenger platform analyzes traffic and security threats across the globe and then assesses the traffic in real time.

"Today's security solutions lack the computing power to process the massive volume of Internet security threats that are out there and constantly changing," said Tommy Stiansen, CTO of NorseCorp. "IPVenger makes it possible for small site operators and large companies alike to secure their websites more effectively than ever by using our live cyber threat intelligence to block malicious and high risk traffic."

Sam Glines, chief executive officer of NorseCorp said, "In recent years WordPress and other popular open-source content management systems have become popular targets for hackers and cybercriminals. Individuals and small and medium business owners must adapt to the mindset that cybercriminals and hackers are motivated to hijack and take control of their site, which can result in significant loss of site up-time, revenue, SEO rankings, productivity, and business reputation."

IPVenger offers live cloud security and analytics reporting, seamless CMS integration and SEO-friendly architecture; it operates as a plug-in to the WordPress system. It works by continuously monitoring traffic and activity and reporting any suspicious activity back to the business in real time. Threats can then be identified and blocked before harm is done to the business or website.

WordPress powers about 70 million websites.

I’ve been vilified by the Press . But a law to shackle it chills my blood

By Joanne Cash, Barrister And Human Rights Campaigner

PUBLISHED: 18:33 EST, 17 March 2013 | UPDATED: 04:06 EST, 18 March 2013

Joanne Cash, a former Conservative candidate and free speech advocate, says proposals to limit the power of the press are worrying and says not one press violation investigated by Leveson was not covered by existing laws

The last time I spoke publicly about the Press was in the early hours of May 11, 2010. I was the newly defeated Conservative parliamentary candidate in the marginal seat of Westminster North and I was devastated to have lost the electoral battle into which I had poured my heart and soul for three-and-a-half years.

When I stood up that night it was not to call for free schools or any of the other issues I had campaigned on. Far from it.

It was to let rip at the Press for the many lies they had published about me, my family and my team during the last six months of my parliamentary campaign.

Yet I have never advocated greater regulation of the Press, not then nor any time since. Because, despite my outburst, I knew that, just as with the issues raised by the Leveson Inquiry, the existing laws covered my every grievance. I could have sued but it was my choice not to.

Before I stood as a parliamentary candidate, I was a barrister practising in media law for 15 years. I have seen the arguments from both sides.

I have watched newspapers with nothing to go on but the word of an aggrieved ex force people through torturous libel claims when all they wanted was a five-line apology.

But I have also watched newspapers take courageous, principled, high-stakes decisions to publish and change the course of history as this paper did when it named the murderers of Stephen Lawrence.

Word on the Tweet: McManaman horror challenge divides opinion

With the Premier League action split right down the middle between Saturday and Sunday games this weekend, we have plenty of debate, controversy and opinion to stick our teeth into with our Monday edition of Word on the Tweet.

Rio Ferdinand's decision to withdraw from England duty in order to carry out his own personal fitness regime catches the eye but the main bone of contention involves Wigan's Callum McManaman and his late challenge on Newcastle left-back Massadio Haidara.

Elsewhere, Gary Lineker does his best Spider-Man impression, Frank Lampard receives praise for breaking the 200-goal barrier at Chelsea and Sebastien Bassong feels aggrieved..."I'm Gutted I had to pull out of england squad, but it was the right decision for my intricate pre-planned programme." Was Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand's withdrawal from the England squad pre-planned? Roy Hodgson got merked.

"Politically powerful players and managers hold the whip hand over England. A ballsy England manager to go head to head v them pls!" Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has a different take on Rio Ferdinand's decision than the player in question.

"I haven't seen a replay from Calum's tackling yet. So I can't say on that case anything too. But I hope the insured player get well soon." Wigan utility man Paul Scharner sits firmly on the fence concerning team-mate Callum McManaman's dreadful challenge on Newcastle's Massadio Haidara.

"Massive win today! Great 3 points! #HappyStPaddysDay" Did James McCarthy dance a little Irish jig in the Wigan dressing room after the game? Not if Mr McManaman has anything to do with it.

"Wow. Not even a yellow #baffled" Newcastle full-back Ryan Taylor, sidelined for the game itself, can't quite believe that McManaman escaped punishment for the tackle.

"Very bad tackle yes! But at normal speed I think he just missed the ball as he was clearing it and unfortunately connected with his knee" QPR striker Jay Bothroyd has more sympathy for the Wigan forward than most.

"Respect MR Lampard. 200 goals juste respect. #respect #respect et encore #respect" Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard comes over all Aretha Franklin after Frank Lampard's milestone goal.

"This weekend the standard of refereeing has been terrible @FA, blatant decisions wrong, inconsistent !" After a weekend littered with controversial decisions, Robbie Savage wants the FA to take some action concerning refereeing standards.
