NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco is catching heat for his response to a question regarding the idea of cold-weather Super Bowls.

Yeah, I think its retarded, Flacco said during his media session Monday.

The 28-year-old, who will go up against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in Super Bowl XLVII, immediately backtracked from the insensitive remark.

I probably shouldnt say that. I think its stupid, he said. If you want a Super Bowl, put a retractable dome on your stadium. Then you can get one. Other than that, I dont really like the idea. I dont think people would react very well to it, or be glad to play anybody in that kind of weather.

Next years Super Bowl will take place at MetLife Stadium in Flaccos home state of New Jersey. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell both embraced the potential for wintry weather during a press conference last week.

New York Daily News columnist Gary Myers said of Flacco, Who knew he had such poor command of the English language? Hes a bright guy. He needs to know better.

Hes going to have to deal with it, WFAN co-host Boomer Esiason said on Tuesday. Im sure hell come out today, Im sure that he will give an apology. I guarantee you that Joe Flacco probably did not get a lot of sleep last night, will get up this morning, will apologize, and hopefully people will understand that he made a mistake.

Flacco did exactly that on media day.

The week in silly studies: FOX pays Palin $15.85 per word

We've found a job we're betting everyone wants ... mostly because of how much it pays just for talking.

As most freelance journalists know, news outlets pay anywhere from 10 to 50 cents per word for freelance work. But that pales in comparison to what FOX paid former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. The network and the former John McCain running mate have recently split after three years, where they paid her a reported $1 million per year to be a contributor.

So Smart Politics, a blog by the University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs, wanted to see if FOX got their money's worth out of Palin.

[ Last week's silly study: Cats take on owners traits ]

The not-so-fun job is obviously conducting this study. Think about it. Someone had to watch more than 150 Palin appearances on FOX and listen to the 189,221 words she uttered on-air. That may seem like a lot of words, but at Palin's rate, it worked out to $15.85 per word.

The findings are published by Dr. Eric Ostermeier, a Research Associate at the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance at the university.

So, what was she talking about?

Palin only used her well-known catch phrase "You Betcha" twice, but did mention Obama 786 times. That's almost $12,500 just for saying "Obama." Talk about a plug for the opposition.

She also said "Amen" 111 times and "God" 57 times, meaning she earned $1,759 for saying "Amen" and $903 for saying "God." Well, Amen to that.

'Super' Word Gets Free Pizza

Hut, hutfree pizza?

Pizza Hut is going to give something away if a typical football term is uttered during the Super Bowl, we just dont know what that something is yet.

If hut is said during the big game, Pizza Hut locations will provide free samples of the chains next big pizza innovation--whatever that may be--from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Anyone can give away a pizza, but not just anyone can offer up a new product that's a true category breakthrough, said Pizza Huts CMO Kurt Kane in a press release.

The press release goes on to say that, according to Stats, Inc., hut is heard an average of 90 times per football game. And as for the big innovation? The pizza chain says it will be revealed during the CBS pre-game show on Super Bowl Sunday

The giveaway ties in to Pizza Huts game day ad, which shows quarterbacks big and small yelling Hut! Hut! during various games of backyard, living room and non-professional football.

Pizza Hut has been known to offer creative crusts and pizzas with pizzazz at some of its international locations. Pizza Hut Singapore, for example, released a pizza within a pizza known as the Double Sensation over the holidays. In April 2012, Pizza Hut fans in the U.K. were introduced to a hot dog-stuffed crust pizza, and the Crown Crust Pizza, a nacho-taco-style pie with a cheeseburger crust, was made available in the Middle East.
