Samuel L. Jackson Dares Interviewer To Say 'N' Word

In an age where foul language is tossed around candidly on-air, there are some curse words that are too unsettling to utter out loud.

With the successful release of Quentin Tarantino's latest film "Django Unchained," the A-list cast stopped to chat with Jake Hamilton, host of Houstons Emmy-winning film show "Jake's Takes" at a press junket. While Hamilton's interrogation was witty and animated, there was cause for pause when supporting actor Samuel L. Jackson tries to get Hamilton to say the 'n' word.

The most awkward moment was just seeing everyone in the room freeze, and waiting to see what my reaction was going to be, Hamilton said, after denying to fulfill Jackson's request. While the clip has made its rounds on the 'net, there has been backlash from both sides: those who claimed that Hamilton should have said it and those who stand by his decision.

Whatever the videos doing today, making the rounds, its not as bad as it would be if I had actually said it, he says. The last thing that my affiliate needs is one of their reporters going around saying the n-word and broadcasting it everywhere.

I like reading end-of-the year lists, because right off the bat you become acquainted with the weasel word of the moment.

That word right now is "meh."

Columnists, commentators and others love weasel words nonsense words that imply a meaning far beyond the claim actually being made. Meh doesnt mean anything. Its an escape from actually saying something.

For example, a ridiculous number of media outlets are claiming that 2012 is the year of "meh." A year where nothing really good or really bad happened, whether it be in entertainment or life.

What a load of baloney.

Hey, if you can't find something fun and interesting to say about the last year, that's on you. The truth is 2012 was an amazing, memorable and sometimes sad year. I'm writing this on the morning of Sunday, Dec. 30, in order to comply with our press deadline this week for the Broadcaster. Just from a work standpoint in this office, we will long remember the year of 2012 because it's the year there was no true holiday. We've had to work like salt miners to put out the newspapers due to this crazy deadline. There has been no "meh" about it.

Locally, we've seen our share of tragedy. There were more fatal crashes on Vernon County roads than normally occur. There were some sad, untimely deaths. I'll mention the names of both Lynn Fortun and Myron Odegard two people loved in our community, who we all wish were still here. There are so many more people to add to that list. These aren't "meh" people and their passing didn't occur in a "meh" year.

When I look at the progress made at the Food Enterprise Center in Viroqua, I'm truly amazed. VEDA has constructed its offices. Keewaydin Organics continues to grow. A kitchen was added. The building has five tenants.

Yes, the Food Enterprise Center is a place with a lot of potential that has benefitted from an influx of tax dollars. I think its great to have a local example in Viroqua of federal tax money at work. While the ultimate success of the Food Enterprise Center will take years to determine, the truth for now is that it is a very positive, growing part of Vernon County. It officially opened in 2012. That's significant.

Organic Valley and Westby Cooperative Creamery both completed important expansion projects in 2012. Viroqua saw the reinvigoration of business, from the business center at the old Kwik Trip building, to the Mobil Mart, to the addition of Dave's Sweet Shop to the opening of Tangled Hickory... There again, are many more and I hope not to offend anyone by omission. My point is, these are good, important things.

Samuel L Jackson urged a white reporter to use the N-word in a recent video interview.

The incident occurred during a press junket with Jackson and his Django Unchained co-stars.

In the clip, Jackson is interviewed by Jake's Takes host Jake Hamilton, who asks the actor to discuss the controversy surrounding Django Unchained regarding the numerous use of "the N-word".

Jackson then goads Hamilton in the video by refusing to answer the question until Hamilton says the actual word out loud, which Hamilton repeatedly declines to do.

Hamilton later told Entertainment Weekly: "The most awkward moment was just seeing everyone in the room freeze, and waiting to see what my reaction was going to be."

The reporter's decision not to say the word has been both criticised and applauded by fans on the net. He says he chose not to say it in order to protect both his show and the network.

No one knows how to make white men squirm quite like Samuel L. Jackson.

A post on Reddit last night has unearthed a prime example. Two weeks ago, the Django Unchained cast sat down with Jake Hamilton, host of Houstons Emmy-winning film show Jakes Takes, at a press junket. Things went smoothly enough until Hamilton approached Jackson with a question about the movies controversial use of the n-word. Jackson insisted that Hamilton, who is white, say the word out loud; after Hamilton repeatedly refused, they moved on. It was uncomfortable.

The most awkward moment was just seeing everyone in the room freeze, and waiting to see what my reaction was going to be, Hamilton says today.

The internet reaction has been mixed. Many commenters claim that Hamilton should have simply said the word, while others applaud the reporter for not caving to Jacksons demand. Hamilton says that his decision was in the best interest of the show and the network.

While itd be easy to harbor some resentment for the provocation, Hamilton says that ultimately theres no hard feelings between him and Jackson. He doesnt suffer any fools, and hes the kind of guy I feel like I have to step up my game as a reporter, he says. I look forward to interviewing him again.

A two-week-old video ofthe Samuel L. Jackson interview has become a hit on the Internet. Jackson was doing press rounds and being interviewed in the leadup to the release of Django Unchained. The movie is a hit for Quentin Tarantino, but manyhave weighed in onits use of the n-word." The word is used frequently by white and black characters, in every manner possible.

Jackson was being interviewedby Jake Hamiltonfor Jakes Takes, a segment about moviesthat airs in Houston on Fox 26's "Morning News Extra." Even before the films release there was controversy about theword. When Hamilton broached the subject, Jackson would not let himgo any further. He tried toprompt to say the word before he would answer.

Spoiler alert, Hamilton does not say the word and moves on to another question. Speaking to CNN, Hamilton said that Jackson, doesn't suffer any fools, and he's the kind of guy I feel like I have to step up my game as a reporter. The video has gained traction due to the high profile criticism, and support, of Django Unchained.

Black directors Spike Lee and Antoine Fuqua have come down on opposite sideson Django Unchained. In an interview with Vibe, Lee said he refuses to see the movie and said on Twitter, American Slavery Was Not A Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western. It Was A Holocaust. My Ancestors Are Slaves. Stolen From Africa. I Will Honor Them.

Fuqua, director of Training Day, defended Tarantino, saying he does not believe the director is racist nor would Jamie Foxx, a friend, participate in a film that would be considered racist. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter Fuqua said, "I havent seen the film, so I cant speak about it specifically, but were supposed to find some truth in films and if you set a film in the 1850s, youre going to hear the word 'nigger,' because thats the way they spoke then, and youre going to discuss slavery because that was part of the reality.

Most recently, Katt Williams announced denounced the usage of the n-word in Django Unchained. Speaking to TMZ, Williams said, Quentin Tarantino thinks he can say the N-word. But I checked with all of Ni**adom and nobody knows where he got his pass from. I hope he didn't get it from Samuel L. Jackson and Jamie Foxx cause they aren't going to help you when I see you.
