LYONS, Colo. (AP) Gerald Guntle dials his sisters home multiple times a day, desperate to find out if she survived the widespread flooding that shattered the Rocky Mountain foothill town of Lyons, but the phone just rings and rings.

If there was no phone service, I wouldnt expect to keep getting ringing. Thats what has me scared, said the Tucson, Ariz., man, whose sister is among hundreds of people listed as missing in a disaster that is already believed to have killed as many as eight people.

Officials hope the number of missing will drop rapidly as communications are restored and people are evacuated throughout the region, as it did in Larimer and Boulder counties, where some 487 people dropped off missing-persons list over the weekend.

But faced with a lack of information, friends and relatives are struggling to avoid thoughts of worst-case scenarios.

In Estes Park, a tourist haven that serves as a first stop for many people entering Rocky Mountain National Park, Tony Bielat was searching for information about an elderly man who lives alone in nearby Glen Haven, where cabins and boulders washed down a swollen river.

The problem is no one knows who has been rescued, Bielat said.

Officials were wading through the rubble in Glen Canyon on Monday, checking every structure in the town one by one.

Precise accounting of the missing remains elusive, with state and county agencies sometimes reporting conflicting totals. Colorado officials listed 1,253 people missing statewide at one point Monday and then updated it to just 658 later in the afternoon.

How to look up words while typing in OS X

Looking up a word definition or possible options for completed a partially typed word is relatively easy to do in OS X.

If you are word processing and need to look up a definition or two, or if you cannot think of a specific word but know the first few letters of it, there are several services built into OS X that can help you with this.

The first option is the built-in dictionary application, available in the Applications folder, which gives you quick access to a several dictionaries, thesauruses, and Wikipedia.

While the dictionary is convenient as a standalone application that you can launch, OS X makes it available as a service in a number of programs so you can quickly look up a definition. To do this, you can simply right-click a selected word and choose "Look Up" from the contextual menu.

Right-clicking a word and choosing "Look Up" will show this popup window that contains the dictionary definition, thesaurus synonyms, and Wikipedia entry for the word.

This option should also be available from the Services menu in supported programs. You can assign the service a custom hot key in the Keyboard system preferences.

Even if you do not have a custom hot key setup, you can still quickly look up word definitions using the Spotlight menu, which can be invoked by default using the Command-Space bar hot key and then highlighting or clicking the dictionary search result.

With a partial word typed, or with a tail-end of a word selected, pressing Escape will bring up the word completion list.

Beyond options to access the dictionary, OS X supports another word-management service that may help if you need to look up a specific word but only have an idea of the first few letters in it. To do this, start typing the word, and then press the Escape key, and you will see a list appear with all possible options for completing the word based on the current set of letters.

This service can be invoked for existing words as well, and can be invoked from any point in a word, so if you have a word already typed, you can highlight the final characters in it (up to the first letter), and then press Escape to bring up the word completion list. Selecting an option from this list will then replace the highlighted portion to give you the desired word.

Oregon TE Colt Lyerla unhappy with the way coach Mark Helfrich addressed his absence Saturday

After Oregon's 59-14 throttling of Tennessee Saturday, coach Mark Helfrich was very consistent with the way that he described star TE Colt Lyerla's absence.

In his post-game press conference, he used the word "circumstances" three times. He gave no further clarification on what those circumstances could be. Other than they caused Lyerla to miss the game. And Lyerla is unhappy with the way Helfrich chose to address the situation.

From The Oregonian:

Im really upset with the way coach Helfrich said that after the game, Lyerla said Sunday. Really disappointed. I feel hurt about this. I watched a little bit of what he said, then started reading all of it, and ... it was unfair.

Lyerla said that he was sick this week, and missed enough practices by team rules that he knew that he wasn't going to be able to play Saturday. So he was told to stay home on Saturday.

As Jason Quick noted, the way Helfrich used the word circumstances left a lot of possibilities open, as Lyerla missed some practices this summer because of personal reasons. It could make for an awkward greeting between the two when Lyerla goes back to practice on Tuesday.

I have no idea why he said that, Lyerla told Quick. It made me really upset. Its not my fault I got sick. I just felt he could have had my back a little bit more instead of throwing me under the bus.

Premier League – Tottenham to consult fans on Y-word

For years Tottenham, who have a strong Jewish following, have been on the receiving end of cruel anti-Semitic abuse from opposition fans.

In an act of defiance, some fans of the north London club have coined the word "Yid" themselves, and chants of "Yids", "Yid Army" and "Yiddos" are regularly sung on the home terraces at White Hart Lane.

Last Monday the Football Association (FA) issued a statement warning supporters that use of such words could result in either a banning order or even criminal prosecution.

Tottenham responded by saying they would consult with their fans on the matter, and it has now emerged they will do so in the form of a questionnaire that will be sent out to all season-ticket holders.

"There is a document that Spurs will be sending out to season-ticket holders in due course," Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust (THST) chairman Darren Alexander told Press Association Sport.

"It's a questionnaire, and basically what the club want to ascertain is do the fans think now is the right time to be stop using this identity.

"If that comes back and a clear majority of fans think: yes, now is the time, then we move forward and we will work actively with the club if they want us to and we will think about how is best to do that."

Tottenham fans reacted defiantly to the FA's statement on Saturday as they chanted "Yid Army" and "We'll sing what we want" throughout the 2-0 win over Norwich.

The same happened last season after Peter Herbert, the head of the Society of Black Lawyers, threatened to report anyone using the phrase to the police.

The THST is unhappy with the way that English football's governing body has brought the issue back on to the agenda, and it insists the fans will be the only ones who decide whether it is time to drop the chants.
