All-State track: Big day for Acton-Boxborough relay teams – Sports … – Wicked Local Boxborough

On Saturday June 3, athletes from the Acton-Boxborough outdoor track teams competed against athletes from all divisions across Massachusetts in the MIAA All-State meet at Bridgewater State University.

To advance to this meet, these A-B athletes placed within the top four in their events at the Division 1 meet on May 27.

A highlight of the all-state meet was senior Patrick Nero who placed 10th in the 2-mile at 9:31. Nero broke the 16-year-old A-B school record (9:33), which was set by Pat Macadie in 2001. Distance coach Lisa Owen said, Pat is the consummate team player, so the 2-mile record was not his focus. It is great that he ended his career breaking a very old and very tough record.

Nero was also a member of the 4x800-meter relay team, along with Gabe Lundy, Jack Culhane, and Jack Gardiner, which placed sixth with a time of 7:59 and will advance to the New England championship on June 10.

Also placing within the top six in their event and qualifying for the New England Championship were the boys 4x400 relay team (Colin Grip, Ben Rubin, Brendan Flaherty, Matt Antes), which placed third at 3:22, and the girls 4x400 relay team (Sara Mitchell, Samantha Cannarozzi, Samantha Friborg, and Alex Saganich), which placed fourth at 4:01.

Other A-B competitors in the All-State meet were Danielle Beerman, 17th in the high jump at 5-02; Cannarozzi, 18th in the long jump at 16-06; Mitchell, 19th in the mile at 5:16; Adam Yang, 28th in the long jump at 19-01.25, and the 4x100 relay (Noah Sweeney, Matt Antes, Ben Rubin, Brendan Flaherty), 15th at 44.09.
