Zam: Communists exploited Malay compassion

Zainuddin Maidin says the government was too compassionate with the communists before, resulting in their resurgence today.

PETALING JAYA: Former Information Minister and veteran journalist Zainuddin Maidin has blamed the resurgence of communism on DAPs brand of Chinese chauvinism, and said the government showed too much compassion to the Communist Party of Malaysia (PKM) years ago and should have instead treated them like the beasts that they were.

In his latest blog entry, Zainuddin or Zam as he is popularly known, said, Animals should be treated like the beasts that they are.

We forget humans do not live in the animal kingdom but we know that animals walk among humans. This is the price we have to pay for protecting PKMs dignity.

He said this in reference to the recent gathering of a group of Chinese intellectuals in honour of the communist struggle and in particular their controversial late leader Chin Peng.

Saying this revival of sorts was made possible because Mahathir Mohamad showed them too much compassion and humanity when he dealt with them 25 years ago, Zainuddin explained that the former premier should not have signed the peace treaty with the communists, seeing as the seeds of Chinese chauvinism took root in PKM and has remained something that DAP has excelled in perpetuating.

Zainuddin also lamented that the governments misplaced compassion had now resulted in a despicable attempt to revive PKM, and said, Even though the majority of Chinese in Malaysia do not support this revival (of communism), without realising it they do because they too want to nullify the powers of the Malay Rulers and demand equal rights as the Malays.

Saying the Chinese had not thought through what it really meant to be a communist in terms of how their freedom would be curtailed, Zainuddin asked, With communism can the Chinese be truly free in Malaysia? Can they prosper and live in luxury as they do now and become Ah Longs, operate illegal gambling dens, massage parlours and other illicit activities prohibited under communism?

Zainuddin also said that since communist sympathisers were brazenly showing their faces, it would be easy for the police to act swiftly on them and to label them as anti-social and enemies of the state, and to segregate them from the general public.

He said the bigger the number who are segregated, the better it would be for Malaysia.
