Democrat Jim Webb hires adviser to coordinate Iowa operations

Former Democratic Sen. Jim Webb, a potential rival of Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination in 2016, has hired a senior political adviser to coordinate his would-be campaign's operations in Iowa.

A Webb adviser confirmed to Fox News early Tuesday that Webb had tapped Rania Batrice for the role.

Batrice previously managed the congressional campaign for George Sinner in North Dakota and served as communications director for the North Dakota Democratic Party.

Webb, a former Secretary of the Navy under Ronald Reagan who represented Virginia in the Senate between 2007 and 2013, announced in November that he was forming an exploratory committee to evaluate a possible presidential run.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is considered to be the clear front-runner for the Democratic nomination, though she has not formally declared her candidacy. Other possible candidates include Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Vice President Joe Biden, and former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley.
