Fox News co-host Bob Beckel had a strong message for his fellow Democrats on Wednesday: Enough with the identity politics.

On the The Five, Beckel saidthat Democrats should take responsibility for their 2016 election losses instead of doubling down on identity politics and appealing to special interest groups while ignoring the working class in America.

Let me just say, Im going to anger my Democratic friends, theyre already mad at me about this, Beckel started.

We continue to say were the party of labor, women, minorities you know, LGBT whatever it is, he said. I gave a speech at the Democratic National Convention. I said, Weve got to stop doing that and get back to where we were built which is, helping people who are working people. And they dont identify with that.

And the idea that Republicans would get anybody who is a working person to vote for them is amazing to me, but the Democrats deserve a lot of the responsibility, he continued.

Co-host Greg Gutfield agreed, noting that it was hard to tell the difference between parodies and issues championed by the Democratic Party.

You know how you know your religion which is identity politics is toxic? Its when you cant tell the difference between the real story and the parody, Gutfield said. Like when you think it might be an Onion story it might be a joke but then you find that its actually real that somebody believes this, that somebody says if you serve tacos at a party its cultural appropriation.

Ease up on the identity politics, Maher suggested.

One of the problems the Democrats have is that they obsess about things like Halloween costumes and the name of the Washington Redskins, he said. And theres millions of people in this country who are saying, How about a little bit more of Im going to get your job back?
