Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon accused Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of being responsible for the assassination attempt of American-Israeli Rabbi Yehuda Glick. A series of similar statements were issued by a number of Israeli officials in regards to the escalating conflict in the region.

In a statement directed towards at Abbas, Yaalon said: Mahmoud Abbas is known for spreading a series of false allegations and accusations regarding the Jewish peoples right to their land and their right to pray in Al-Aqsa courtyard, and this is the result of his statements.

The Israeli Minister of Tourism Uzi Landau was more severe in his comments when he said: Our main enemies are Mahmoud Abbas, Arab terrorism and Hamas. Abbas is trying to use the events in Jerusalem to his political benefit and he uses them to achieve his political terrorism.

On Facebook, the Israeli Ministry of Public Security wrote: The Israeli police will not allow terrorism to raise its head in Jerusalem and they will reach each and every terrorist.

Miri Regev, the head of the Interior Committee in the Knesset, called upon security forces to deploy a permanent group of guards that will prevent Palestinians from protesting Jewish entry into Al-Aqsa and its surrounding courtyard.

A report on the Israeli radio attributed the closure of the Aqsa mosque to the attacks directed at Jews and the Palestinian response of throwing stones and chanting slogans against Jewish entry into Al-Aqsa Mosque. As a result of this response, Israeli officials trapped Palestinian Muslims inside the mosques and responded by saying: We would not have had to treat Palestinians in this way if the situation did not escalate to this stage.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Ministers Office Ofir Akunis called for the demolition of Palestinian martyr Moataz Hijazis house and accused the minister of public security of being lax when dealing with the events in Jerusalem.
