Eric Holder on Obama’s return: ‘He’s ready to roll’ – The Grio

On Tuesday, Eric Holder said that former president Barack Obama is getting ready to return to politics and take on gerrymandering with Holder alongside thenew National Democratic Redistricting Committee, which Holder was asked to chair last year by Obama.

Its coming. Hes coming, Holder said. And hes ready to roll.

Holder said that throughout the NDRCs efforts to deal with the disadvantages of redistricting and gerrymandering, Obamawill be a more visible part of the effort. The committee hopes to work toward nonpartisan district-drawing commissions in an effort to create voting districts that more accurately reflect the population.

Petition calls for Obama to run for office in France

This is really a battle for our democracy, Holder said. The notion that people are denied their ability to cast a meaningful vote is inconsistent with who we say we are, inconsistent with what we say our democracy is about.

During his comments, Holder admitted that it would be more difficult for the committee to meet its goals with Jeff Sessions as the new attorney general. He admitted that whileit would be good to have the Justice Department on our side it doesnt mean that the argument cant be made, and cant be made well.
