Free security software that’s top-rated – KOMO News

There are times when you can get something that's really good for free.

PC Magazine recently rated a whole bunch of free security software and they found a number of products that did a really good job of protecting against all kinds of malicious software.

The editors top picks are Avast Free Antivirus and AVG AntiVirus Free. Both scored four and a half out of five stars and are free for personal use. They earned very good scores from both independent labs and PC Mags own tests.

In its review, PC Magazine says Avast provides great antivirus protection and comes with a surprisingly extensive collection of bonus features, like password manager and network security scanner.

AVG AntiVirus Free has a new look and some new technology but the editors say it's just as reliable an ever.

Bottom line: While these are good programs, PC Magazine says the best paid antivirus software does tend to offer "more and better protection."

By the way, the magazine did not include Microsoft Windows Defender Security Center on its best list for 2017. They editors said thats because it only rated 2.5 stars
