Monday Money Tip: Investment seminar; online tax help

If you want conflict-free investment ideas, sign up for BetterInvesting's Spring Investor Day, set for April 25. (By conflict-free, we mean no one will be "conflicted" - that is, getting paid to give advice or sell any investing products.)

Spring Investor Day is an all-day seminar (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), and 20 bucks gets you stock-research sessions, questions and answers with the Philadelphia Area Chapter of BetterInvesting, and lunch. You don't have to be a member to attend.

A national club of self-taught investors, BetterInvesting has a website (www.betterinvesting.org) with information about how it formed and what it does.

Spring Investor Day will take place at the community center at the Super Giant Food Store at 315 York Rd. in Willow Grove. Registration is required; contact Gloria Mankonen, director of the Philadelphia-area chapter, by e-mail (gmankonen@gmail.com) or phone (215-796-1214).

Still need to get those taxes in? You can send your returns online using free tax software.

The Free File Alliance (www.IRS.gov/freefile) is a nonprofit coalition of tax-software companies working with the Internal Revenue Service to help millions of Americans prepare and e-file their federal returns free of charge (if you have 2014 adjusted gross income of $60,000 or less).

Free File Alliance member companies provide more than a dozen brand-name tax-software options at no cost.

TaxACT.com also offers free federal filing.

If you can't finish your tax return by that Wednesday deadline, you can get an automatic six-month extension. The fastest and easiest way is through the Free File link via IRS.gov (freefile.irs.gov).
