New tech workshops planned at Henderson library

Three new technology themed workshops will be offered in June at Henderson County Public Library.

These workshops will show participants how to store information for free on the Internet, video chat with friends and family and save money by using free office suite software on your computer.

On Saturday, June 8, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., the librarys Public Computer Instructor Retta Zollinger will teach How to Use Cloud Storage. Cloud storage is online space where you store and share information on computers or some mobile devices that have an Internet connection. She will discuss Dropbox, Google Drive and SkyDrive, which are free and easy cloud storage options.

If you want to stay in touch with family and friends that have moved away or watch the progress of a new grandchild, then the Stay Connected with Video workshop may be for you.

On Saturday, June 15, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., bring your laptop or mobile device to learn how to use FaceTime, Skype and Eyejot. FaceTime and Skype allow users to make face-to-face video calls over the Internet for free. Eyejot is a free service that will allow you to send a video through email.

There is more than one solution to using software to get a word processor, spreadsheets or slide presentations. In the Free Alternatives to Microsoft Office workshop on Saturday, June 29, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., participants will be shown three free options OpenOffice, Google Docs and Libre Office offering comparable services.

Registration is required to attend these workshops. Space is limited. To sign up for one of these workshops, go to http://www.hcpl.org; call the library at 270-826-3712; or visit the library at 101 S. Main St.
