Pinellas sheriff's office offers parents free internet monitoring software

The Pinellas County Sheriffs Office is offering free software to help parents monitor what their kids do on the Internet.

The ComputerCOP software lets parents see images, documents, videos and internet browser history. Parents can also monitor chat and email conversations using a program called KeyAlert.

Our office is committed to protecting our children from becoming victims of on-line crime, said Pinellas Sheriff Bob Gaultieri. We want to protect kids from exploitation and abduction by Internet predators; we hope to increase the reporting of such criminal activity; and we strive to provide parents, guardians, and other responsible adults with resources to make our kids online experiences safe, educational and fun.

The software can be picked up at the sheriffs office administrative building, 10750 Ulmerton Road in Largo and at the north district station, 737 Louden Ave. in Dunedin.
