Hillary Clinton added to museum of presidential also-rans – KETV Omaha

While Donald Trump was being inaugurated at America's 45th president, his Democratic opponent in the 2016 election was being added to a unique museum.

Hillary Clinton on Friday became the first woman to have a portrait adorn the walls at the They Also Ran Gallery in Norton, Kan. The museum honors those who came short of the presidency.

"It's not us dissing you or making fun," museum curator Lee Ann Shearer told Yahoo News. "It's about honoring people who've tried. It's so hard to run for president. ... These people worked hard and love their country, too, and we think it's important to remember that."

Housed in the First State Bank of Norton since 1965, the bank's former president and owner William Walter Rouse was inspired to open the gallery after receiving the book "They Also Ran" by Irving Stone. Rouse, who died in 1981, began collecting black and white copies of portraits and photos from the Library of Congress, according to a history of the gallery.

Clinton joins a gallery that includes such political titans -- and eventual presidents -- as Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Theodore Roosevelt.
