Hillary Clinton to Stump for Chelseas Mother-in-Law

Chelsea Clintons mother-in-law is about to get some political love from her mother. Hillary Clinton is scheduled to headline a fundraiser May 15 for Marjorie Margolies, who is trying to win back a House seat in Pennsylvania.

Ms. Margolies, whose son, Marc Mezvinsky, is married to Chelsea, is battling in a competitive Democratic primary election to win an open House seat around Philadelphia. She served in the House in 1992-94 but lost her seat after casting a deciding vote for President Bill Clintons 1993 budget. The vote was controversial because the budget included a tax increase that was a central campaign issue against her and other Democrats in the 1994 midterm election.

Mr. Clinton has already campaigned for Ms. Margolies, in a mid-April fundraiser in Philadelphia where he declared his appearance was not just a family matter for him. I would be here even if her son werent my son-in-law, he said.

An aide to Mrs. Clinton confirmed her plans to attend the Manhattan fundraiser for Ms. Margolies, which was first reported by Politico. It marks Mrs. Clintons first political activity of 2014, as speculation about her expected run for president in 2016 intensifies.

One of Ms. Margoliess primary opponents in the heavily Democratic district has tried to turn her Clinton connection into a political liability. State Sen. Daylin Leach has run a campaign ad featuring his daughter Brennan, who comments on a clip of Mr. Clinton speaking as president. He seems like a great guy, but everything hes talking about happened in the past way before I was born, she said. While some cling to the past, we just cant go backwards.
