James Blunt Quits Music, ‘You’re Beautiful’ Singer Says He Has No Future Plans For Songwriting

In an interview with The Daily Mail, the British singer, who hit it big with the 2007 single Youre Beautiful, said he was not interested in doing any more songwriting at the moment.

"I just want to take some time out for myself," Blunt told The Daily Mail. "I haven't got any plans to do more songwriting. I have been chilling out since I finished my world tour and I've spent a lot of time in Ibiza."

Blunt was reportedly in town with his girlfriend of nine months, model Sofia Wellesley, for the relaunch of nightclub Barbarella in Fulham, London.

"Sofia and I had a great time hanging out with friends on my yacht but we partied as well. I do like a good night out, and that is why its great fun to hang out at Barbarella. London needs more nightclubs like this," he said.

Blunt smashed onto the music scene in 2004 when he dropped Back to Bedlam, which contained the hit single that he will be forever known for.

Youre Beautiful was Blunts third single off the album and debuted at No. 12 in the UK. The song eventually rose all the way to the No. 1 position six weeks and gained the singer-songwriter massive airplay.

In the U.S., "You're Beautiful" made its debut in the summer of 2005 with the song climbing into the top 10 in three different radio formats.

Blunt became the first British artist to top the American singles chart in nearly a decade when "You're Beautiful" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2006. The last British artist to do so had been Elton John in 1997 with the re-release of "Candle in the Wind" after he played it at Princess Diana's funeral.

Blunt released two other albums after "Back to Bedlam," 2007's "All the Lost Souls," and 2010's "Some Kind of Trouble." While both were generally well-received, "Back to Bedlam," was by far the most successful, selling 11 million copies and earning him five Grammy nominations including Best New Artist, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Album.
