‘Harry Potter Deathly Hallows – Part 2’, ‘Drive’ lead Empire awards

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 and Drive are leading the nominations for the 17th Jameson Empire Awards, picking up recognition in five categories apiece.

The final movie in JK Rowling's popular wizard saga scooped nominations for 'Best Film', 'Best Director', 'Jameson Best Actor' for Daniel Radcliffe, 'Best Female Newcomer' for Bonnie Wright and 'The Art of 3D' prize.

Drive has been nominated for 'Best Film', 'Best Director' for Nicolas Winding Refn and 'Best Actor' for Ryan Gosling, alongside nods for 'Best Actress' (Carey Mulligan) and 'Best Thriller'.

In the 'Best Film' category, the movies face competition from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Attack The Block, The Inbetweeners Movie, Submarine, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Tyrannosaur will compete for 'Best British Film', while superhero epics Captain America: The First Avengers, Thor and X-Men: First Class compete with Super 8 and Rise of the Planet of the Apes for 'Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy'.

The acting categories see the likes of Daniel Craig, Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis, Olivia Colman, Rooney Mara, Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams competing for awards.

The Jameson Empire Awards, voted for entirely by the British public and readers of Empire magazine, will take place in central London on March 25 with Radio 6's Lauren Laverne and Chris Hewitt of Film 2012 on hosting duties.
